Yes, it reminds me of Kurt Angle when he also did a great goofy character but you loved and took his matches seriously. Alpha Academy is great and in fact, I think if they leaned into the angle of how much they take their wrestling seriously -- they really are a great parallel team to work against Imperium. Both take wrestling very seriously and are fantastic athletes.

They get a pretty decent pop too. Every week there are people in the building cheering for all three of them and glad to see them win. Gable suplexes literally everyone and no ones seems to give him the credit for it. It's interesting to note when people say "well this guy got a not so great gimmick, but was able to get past it". To be fair, Gable in ring work is brilliant, but is it credible that he could be champion in a division with Lesnar in it? Weight would be important. Still though, he definitely would beat Rollins in a real fight so having him as a champion isn't that unrealistic. He could probably beat almost all of the roster.

It's because these other wrestling podcasts deep down don't care about the wrestling and are only there for the podcast money. They worry only about their formatting to make sure their shows run exactly 1 hour or 2 hours or whatever. If they have a point to make but are close to making time they just quickly wrap things up because they really aren't assed to explain beyond their target time to fill. Jim can continue for hours on one segment if he really wanted to and that's a testament to the passion he genuinely has for the business.

They are the only ones not doing this just for clicks and money. Plus, if Simon says it's bad (or if Jim says it's good), the match had to earn that opinion. They down hand out their review on a whim like certain star ratings....

Chad Gable is one of the most underrated talents on the roster, he really is the Kurt Angle of this generation. Gunther is one of the greatest wrestlers and gimmicks in the world right now. I really want to see a serious 20+ min match between the two of them. This short little match showed it needs to happen. While Alpha Academy is goofy, I love it, because they keep the goofiness out of the ring for the most part. Unlike the Elite is incapable of being serious.

The silly stuff Gable is doing now is no different than the silly stuff Angle did way back when. The difference is that Angle was a main eventer and Gable isn't, so the argument isn't "why is he doing silly stuff?" it's "why isn't he a bigger star?" and that probably has more to do with his size. Angle probably had 4 inches on Gable and wasn't saddled in a tag team.

Ive been a fan of Otis and Gable since their respective NXT tag runs. Otis MITB run wasnt for everyone but i loved it until the swerve turn ending. I try and recognize that WWE has run off the back of comedy stuff that isnt for me, but when it works it works, and if Gable suddenly shuushed a mouthing off heel, it would get a pop out of me. Him and Otis eventually winning gold, or either getting a singles push would be worth it in my eyes
