Jim Hopper || Do you ever feel cursed?

when you mentioned you were working on this vid, i was so excited because Hopper, and in particular, his relationship with Eleven, was one of my favorite aspects of the new season. and i have to say, it's an absolute pleasure to finally see this video come to fruition. it feels almost redundant to praise your technical skills at this point, as this is obviously executed with great finesse, from the sound editing to the parallels and chosen voice overs. there's an auteuristic quality to your editing that makes you so identifiable, and clearly indicates that you should be working in the industry. it's always a pleasure to watch your videos. but what is demonstrated here, beyond the technical prowess, is a great love for this character. and a clear vision for telling his story. this video, it could've easily been a mess, probably should've been, with how much you were able to pack into it. but it was singularly grounded by this idea that Hopper has - this "black hole" concept; in which he, himself, exists as this singular unit in which everything, or everyone, is pulled towards, but ultimately is destroyed by. i absolutely loved that you recontextualized certain scenes to support this idea, like the way you used the "here" parallels around 2:05, and the way you kept returning to the digging scene. i loved that you showed a lot of the smaller moments where Hopper tries to control situations in order to protect others (around 3:08 - 3:15) - moments that may be overlooked by a less attentive eye. all of this, of course, leading up to the collapsing of his efforts, the suffocation under that pressure of having to protect everyone around him and the ramifications that ensue as a result. the way you paralleled the fighting scenes with Hopper being /literally/ suffocated by the black hole is probably my favorite part of this entire video and it's such an insightful editing choice on your part. and i loved the way you ended it too - how you subvert this chaotic and consuming notion Hopper has of himself and show, instead, how he is ultimately an anchor for those around him, a source of stability. and of course, the suggestion that things will get better for all of them, including Hopper. as i comment on this video, there's a dozen others in my "to comment" playlist i've yet to, including your will/mike vid, but i couldn't help myself with this one. i'm just so impressed by what you've created here and the talent you've demonstrated - from both a technical and narrative standpoint. i have yet to see another Hopper vid, but i doubt there will be one that tops this, for me. i hope you're proud of what you've created here because it's truly an astounding artistic accomplishment.

I was scared about those, it was the first idea I had for the video but I also thought about not using it cause maybe people wouldn't understand... At the end I decided to keep it cause that was the idea and I'm trying to stay true to my ideas no matter how crazy. That scene where Mike is screaming at Hopper and just punching him and punching him until the punches slowly stop and he just starts crying and actually goes to hug Hopper makes me cry everytime. It's clear that Mike is upset that Hopper hid Eleven from him but also so grateful that he kept her safe and alive.
