It didn’t matter that McMahon had just set 70 NCAA passing records because Chicago’s 1940’s style offense was never supposed to produce an NFL HOF quarterback. The fact is the Bears were lucky that McMahon also had the brains and balls to win in spite of that.

Those were great years, BYU had some amazing offensive lineman, who had great careers in the NFL. The WRs never dropped passes while running exacting routes. They could have beaten anyone.
