It's actually quite a sensible thing to say. If the mark buys it, it confirms that they are both gullible and technically illiterate. Anyone they can't eventually scam is likely to drop off at that point and save them time.

@@JimBrowning I find your videos highly educational and helpful. I've never fallen victim to this but I can spot scams more easily. I've shared your videos before. I learned about scambaiting because of you and I sleep better at night knowing people like you do this. Telling you to not share the videos because more scammers will see them than potential victims is like saying you shouldn't warn people about the dangers of kidnapping because more kidnappers will see it than potential victims....its almost is like Transferwise knows their customers are scammers and exposing them hurts their bottom line. If it were a company like PayPal they'd probably want their customers to at least pretend-believe they care about fraud. Question, off topic: You obviously share what you capture, but how many do you miss in the course of a day/week/month?

@blakestollman8080
@blakestollman8080 4 жыл бұрын
@@sirgreedy88 I can assure you it's not to check to see if the police are there. No police in the UK are looking for scammers in India. They would have no jurisdiction there and it's not like they would worry about some kind of joint UK Indian police sting because the police let this happen with impunity. I think the main reason they do it is to keep an eye on what you are doing simple as that.

Now that I have an apple, I pad, I do t have the hacking problem. When I was using a dell or Hewlett-Packard my laptop was hacked a couple times a year. Yea. i think that, yes, a video like this can reveal mistakes that a scammer made and that, yes, they could use it to stop making those mistakes. But the amount of people that get helped from these videos is much greater. Iv seen so many people in comments talking about how they couldn’t persuade family members to see that they were being scammed but when they show them the videos, it finally clicks. It’s a fine line to walk of ‘does it help or hurt more?’ And I don’t think Jim does anything to help scammers other than showing obvious flaws in their scams

The argument given you that posting this video might provide a tutorial to scammers shows a complete lack of understanding about security and fraud prevention. The fact of the matter is that any potential scammers already know how to scam you. It's an extremely competitive industry, and the are no real secrets, only ignorant victims. It's the scammers who don't want their methods shown.

Exactly. They take home cold hard cash via commission, namely the 30 GBP for an 8k transfer. That scales very nicely and they don't care if it's legit or not, because when is a scam, the credit card company/bank is going to be the one who has to deal with the issue.

Yep. There’s no secret special method that’s going to net you more victims. In fact I’ve heard from some people that the stupider the scam, the better, because then only truly un-knowing people will fall for it, so you’re not wasting your time scamming people who will figure it out halfway through. Therefore the idea that you’re somehow creating “tutorials” for scammers seems ridiculous to me. Knowledge is power. And your videos have given me more knowledge and proof to help inform the people around me who might be susceptible to these scams. Keep at it Jim!

At the time I was travelling round the country and running a bit low on cash, saw an advert for this *new* VISA and thought I'd use my Barclaycard (from London) to get some cash. I went into the big branch in what was then the city of Madras. They had no paperwork or process yet in place for this new-fangled credit card, they'd never done it before. But the manager invited me into his office, rang the Head Office in Hyderabad, got instructions over the phone and wrote out by hand. I got my rupees and was on my way. How things have changed now! That's what "progress" means..

12:34 "I'd like to hear your views on this in the comments below". I worry about my mom or dad falling for one of these scams. My dad has fallen for a computer scam before. Thankfully, he didn't lose any money because of it. He doesn't use youtube at all or watch any videos, but I do. I tell him about the different kinds of scams, and some tips for what to look for. Please know that your videos are helping people! Potential victims are getting warned ahead of time. Thank you!

I think scammers teach the next generation of scammers (or they innovate independently). youtube videos showing the details of a scam going on to inspire an actual scammer is going to be very marginal, meanwhile i'm sure its more likely that magnitudes more people are being educated by these youtube videos and become more security conscious. Keep the scam revelation videos coming, Jim.

This might have worked in the early days of TVs because of the concern of CRTs, but today? I mean, come, on. ¬_¬ Maybe they're targeting old people who grew up with "radioactive" TVs. 🤔

It doesnt seem particularly arrogant to me. perhaps a little stand-offish. But I'd be MORE concerned if they started giving out information on their anti-scam methods just because someone contacted them. That really shouldnt be open to the public. If they wanted the video down for their own benefit, they could have just threatened him with legal action for attempting to smear their name. all they did was give a warning, that isn't that unreasonable. It really isn't their fault if gullible people believe "we blacked out your screen because of the radiance" and "I'm sending you a code, what is that code please sir?" TransferWise has some standard checks in place, ID documents, SMS verification. What more do you exactly expect? Bloodsamples? It's not like WesternUnion where all you need is to know the persons name.

Good Job Jim. I am a native of past combined Andhra Pradesh state ( now Hyderabad is in Telangana). It's a surprise to me that a scam center is located just around the place I stayed last winter. And it's a surprise because, we do find scam centers in either North East of India or in the northern states where there are no laws, but running a scam center in the most developed and technology centric state is some thing that is new. The best way this video has to reach wider audiences such as media and Government is Twitter. IT minister of current Telangana state is very well versed with technology(@KTRTRS is his twitter(has 1.8million followers). He'll sure respond to you on Twitter. Also Tag (@cpcybd cyberabad police commissioner) who you sent a mail. He will respond to your mail for sure. And, I admire your work. Keep going!!!
