I was at Walmart, I saw some lady on mobility scooter trying to buy multiple $100 google play cards, I immediately stopped her and asked her why was she buying them, and she didnt answer so i asked if someone one phone was asking to buy all these then she said yes, I immediately told her that its a scam and dont buy them (meanwhile the guy was listening to me) and guess what she put the phone on speaker so i could hear the guy and the guy was telling her to tell me it was none of my business, I told her dont listen to him, he is scamming and so she hung up and she put the cards back on the shelf. I felt so good when i stopped her from getting scammer.

@@XeroMaverick Interesting. I wonder though how the law works in terms of blackmail and fraud. I imagine it may be very difficult and tricky, but possible. Google or any corporation that bought[owns and created] the gift cards would need to become involved. Tax complications may arise, but ultimately it would likely be sorted out, as long as he had not redeemed or read them aloud of course.

@Step with Stef But keep in mind, the man said the people already were holding his money ransom. If someone tells me that, I'm going to try to get them to call their bank or the police instead, but sometimes people are insistent on going through with something. And aside from contacting those things, if they say their bank account is being held random, I wouldn't know what else to do. So I too would probably go along with giving them the gift cards, because I'm not sure how else to help them. I'm learning more watching these videos, but it sucks when you're just the customer service person caught between "just doing your job" and feeling something might not be right but not sure how to really help someone in a case like this. Frankly though, a smartphone or a call to the bank would both be your best friends in this case. A smartphone to sign into your bank on another device (update the password to be safe! And indeed, as Jim said, use 2 step verification), and that way you can see the real balance. And calling the bank would help put a stop to everything and lock the account.

It does leave me wondering, what will they do if they are the one being scammed? Also the woman at the end. That sounds so sad. She sounds defeated after presumably being scammed for thousands. Meanwhile the scammers were rafting and looked happy. How can they do that and still calling themselves human I don't even know.
@Meowzers1250

@@ZX3000GT1 They justify it because they think Westerners are just rich and money is easy to come by. Probably see themselves as Robin Hood, and those in the US and UK are greedy rich people who can afford to share the wealth. It's crazy how much work these scammers put into stealing money. They have the ability to work legitimately, its not like scamming is their only option to put food on the table. They are just greedy and want instant wealth without climbing the career ladder. I have never supported someone on Patreon until now, but Jim has a true and honest cause. Yes these videos are a form of entertainment, but if you look at the bigger picture, Jim is actually saving people's money, but also protecting their mental health. These scammers could've caused someone to commit suicide, by pretending to steal a victim's life savings... but they don't care. But yeah, when faced with such a tragedy they panicked and didn't even think to call my dad's number. Jim, thanks for what you do. I work retail and I have seen the end process of a scam quite often. I have been able to help a good number of them understand that they have been scammed. At first they are affraid of the help for fear of the scammer but more than half the time I can get them to listen to me. The fear and dispare on their faces bother me greatly. I was even in another retailer once and over heard a lady on her cell phone, who was obviously being scammed. I couldn't help but approach her and offer her assistance. You can imagine what happened, a complete stranger tells her she is being scammed. The best advice I could offer her was to tell her to hang up on the scammer. It was one of many sad situations I have come across. Keep up the fight on your end and I will on mine.

So, the other day I had a situation at work (I work retail and I'll leave it at that). An older lady entered and began looking at our Google gift cards and seemed more confused than anyone going in to purchase a card for themselves. She was on the phone so I figured a grandchild was giving her instructions (not really a red flag to be honest). My first red flag was that she grabbed 6 $100 cards. Now, our store has a limit of $500 so I approached to explain this. After no more than three questions, I realized she was being scammed. She told me Amazon had contacted her about a TV that was purchased and shipped (red flag 1). She then said she was instructed to buy the Google cards to begin a refund process (red flag 2). She also told me she was instructed not to talk to any employee aside from making her purchase (red flag 3). I was seething in anger, not at her, but the gall of this situation. My solution? I told her to hang up the call and explained that I would refuse to let any cashier ring her up because I had reason to believe it was a scam. By the end of my interaction, I placed the cards back on the shelf and stopped this. My point? All retail chains should be trained to recognize this behavior.

We are(hopefully). I work retail too and I was called once by a scammer while at work on the store phone. He said it was a code blue that day, which means nothing and is only there to trick people since it sounds professional. I was alone at work that day and I just kept putting the guy on hold till he yelled at me. Another scammer brought up a green dot prepaid card and wanted 500 on it. Fair enough they're basically debit if you don't like using a bank. However...he showed me his debit card and said "Its a cash card you gotta push F1." Now I immediately thought "How would he know what buttons we push?". What i did was a fun con on the con. I processed the transaction as if he used cash, then immediately canceled and refunded the card and money to my drawer and gave him the worthless card.
