the way to stop bullying between groups is for the staff and people who put together the group to actually observe the dinamic of it, before making it a group. The problem with this is that the company won't make the choice of letting a talented person go even if they have a shity personality and bully other members. If the bullying is bad, they shouldn't have that person in the company. If it's petty shit, then they should find a way to work it out and actually cominicate. But here's why the fact that companys don't let go of such people is a problem.... Because otherwise you have a victim of bullying venting on instagram about the horrible things she/he went trough, and the person who did the bullying ends up leaving the company and then a sucsesfull group is completly gone, which means is bad for the company as well. It's in the company's best interest to have a group which actually get's along. Or at least it should, otherwise is bad for them, and for the victims and the one's who bully because their career is ruined in the end, and so is the companys image.

Sorry to tell you but even though Americans are not supposed to set of fireworks, they do it every 4th of July. And it's just like they described above. It goes on for hours. In Los Angeles this year they actually did a news story because there were so many illegal fireworks being set off, somebody took an aerial photo and the amount of illegal fireworks almost made it look like a professional fireworks display. It made the sky look very picturesque. Illegal fireworks are a big business in the US. The fact is that there are too many people buying and setting off fireworks for the police and jail all of them. It's been like this for decades. Like 2 days ago someone was setting off fireworks at 5 am in the morning near my house in California. I guess they had some left over and wanted to use them. I mean the 4th of July was over a week ago and they are still setting off fireworks.

There is that saying that if you witness a crime or you know the criminal and you don't report it, you are an accomplice. Which is pretty much legit. She said she feels sorry that she never noticed that mina was the victim as well because she was too caught up on how she feels (the translation can be meant was on how she overcome the bullying by herself so that's why she never noticed). Wasn’t she also the only one who could sing well as an idol in the group? Like the others in the group sure sing better than me, a normal person, but as an idol they’re not that outstanding of singers. But I was under the impression that Choa could carry her own weight as an idol/singer, while the others didn’t have much else to offer (at least publicly known at the time Choa was in the group). Sure, Seolhyun is popular, but not because she’s an idol, but rather as a model/actress, Jimin for rapping, maybe? (Although I absolutely despise her rapping tone. When it comes to the Kpop system, children should never be allowed to enter into contracts anyway. Nor should their parents be able to sign a contract for them. Since the companies clearly don't have to guarantee that the trainee will ever debut then the trainee shouldn't have to guarantee the same.
@littlelou0504 жыл бұрын
While it sounds great to not allow young kids to enter these company's and have to train with an uncertainty etc. This probably won't change. These are company's, their goal is to make money and succeed. This is all up to the parents. I do think that trainees should be no younger than 14 or 15 because by then most people are aware and can understand these things. I also think those debuting should be atleast 16 and we shouldn't try and debut kids younger than that because of how toxic society is and can be towards them. I suppose all we can really do is hope parents make the right decision and company's put in some kind of rules on this
@SannaKore4 жыл бұрын
@@littlelou050 You're absolutely right, but I don't think it's just up to the parents. Korean society as a whole needs to rise up and demand their government more strictly regulate an entertainment company's use of minor labor. Like Danny said, greed is the driving force of these companies, so it requires an outside, unbiased force to protect these kids.
@TrixiPB4 жыл бұрын
You have a point. Maybe it would be better to change the whole system. The underage signing of contracts - children and underage people shouldn’t be able to sign full contracts; the contracts itself - they should be signed only after the idol debuts, not before, because there is no guarantee for the trainee that he will debut. The length of the contract period itself is too long. Having trainees, it is a huge money-hole for a company. So maybe it’ll be better if they didn’t have trainees but changed it to providing a trainee system and the people interested and wanting to be an idol would be paying for the training. If they are unable to pay, maybe have some form of “scholarship” for some of them. If they need it, provide mental-health care. Or just talk to them - company discussing with their idols, and not just stating facts and opinions. It should be a relationship, not a dictatorship.

That statement from Danny reminded me of Jay Park where he mentioned that he didn't know what he is getting into when signed up with JYP. He thought that the audition was just a contest where he can win money and that when came to SK he wasn't told that he has to train for 4+ years before debuting. But nowadays I think Kpop is so popular and kinda open that it isn't an unknown fact what trainees have to get through. So I think new trainees that sign up with agencies know what they are getting into (to an extent).

I do agree a lot with what Danny said, i think idols don't really know what they're getting into when they join the kpop world. First they're very young and they probably only thinking about the good stuff that comes with it, or they think they can handle the bad stuff, or that the bad stuff isn't that bad. But if you think about it this happens to everyone when you go into something new, you never know how it's going to be, and a lot of the times it end ups being different from what you were expecting. Also living in a dorm together, sometimes big groups in small dorms, can cause a lot friction and problems. They already work long hours together, now imagine going home (the dorm, usually small) and spend even more time together. It's like they can't have some privacy or time out from each other. People need some space and time, it's not good to spend all of their time together
@breakforthechorus62304 жыл бұрын
Agreed. Though the difference is with a lot of similarities to signing up for something and regretting it, say a job or a class, you have the ability to leave or give notice and quit. Signing a 7-10 year contract (the most common kpop contract lengths from gen 2 onward) meant that you were literately trapped unless you wanted to be fined thousands of dollars and spend hours and hours in court for breaking said contract. It's really rough to think that actual children sign up for this and their parents let them OR don't know about it. Krystal and Jessica were both scouted when they were incredibly young. It's obvious that Jessica didn't want to be an idol anymore but knowing SM and slave contracts, she just had to struggle through it. :(

This is such an important lesson we learn as adults. When I was living on my own for the first time when I was 18, I thought I could just live with any friends and it would all be fun and games because living with your friends is so cool! Turns out living styles, chemistry, and having enough individual space and healthy communication methods play a HUGE role in the success of living with friends. I can relate to your post. I've had fantastic roommate experiences with friends and strangers alike and I've had equally terrible unhealthy ones that traumatized me and legit gave me PTSD from the emotional abuse. Constantly being threatened to be kicked out for the silliest things when you have nowhere else to go. It was ridiculous. My best friend and I were discussing this. Having kpop groups be immediately forced to be around each other 24/7 and live in such small quarters with 0 privacy, would make anyone go bonkers. I know I couldn't do it. I NEED my space. It's just incredibly unhealthy but I know they do it purely for financial reasons. Still, there is so much that goes on behind the scenes we don't know about because the company wants to keep a good reputation to be able to continue to make profit or even just continue functioning. FNC is trash and everyone knows it. Some of my absolute favorite groups have been from that company but they are almost as bad if not worse than PLEDIS, TS, and MBK.

US servicemen have a set of rules to go by especially when they are in foreign country. I have two sons that are in the military and I know for a fact that they are expected to act accordingly and must not act dishonorably towards anyone let alone acting disrespectful in foreign countries. July 4th is a big American holiday but it is not an excuse to be disrespectful at all. Maybe your ambassador should have a talk with the American embassy about all these. It must not be tolerated.

Man, I didn’t know this firework issue is also happening in South Korea. There have been issues of fireworks being set off in America around 8 PM to 2-3 AM since Memorial Day weekend, coinciding with the Black Lives Matter protests. These fireworks are even professional grade, too. There are accounts of people seeing police handing these out to people for free. If that isn’t psychological warfare to create anxiety on the protestors and to desensitize people when they need to cover up something, I don’t know what is. I am American, and I am ashamed that there were American tourists were in South Korea. Setting off fireworks and not wearing masks, they’re going to end us all with that carefree attitude. EDIT: I would also like to add that people have also seen police themselves setting them off. These professional fireworks should have been impossible to get, but for the police to have them is very telling about who has the biggest budget in America.

Ah yes, the Americans. Sigh. I live in America, in a large city, and I'm absolutely surrounded by all of this. It's not everyone, there are people like me and my friends, but it's pretty overwhelming. The lack of masks, the loud and aggressive refusal to care about covid, and my building was surrounded by non-stop fireworks from 7pm to 2am on the 4th. Absolutely huge light shows and explosions that shook my apartment like bombs, fired from the tops of buildings and on street corners. It was because we shut down the beaches, bars, and official fireworks a few days before. It was just surreal.

Whenever I see BTS talk to or about each other (mostly in the movies where they even show disagreements), they are very articulate about their feelings and it makes me think they maybe receive therapy or group therapy in some way or another, and that's how they get along so well. Also normalize therapy!

I also think because of the company/ the boss how they handle mental health for their idols/singers, and how they handle their situation with a therapist and also have follow up and listening to their artist and help them in finding solution to their problems rather letting them fight/creating problems thus creating more more issues towards the artist/idol groups. It really does amaze me how strong the bond between BTS is, and it looks so genuine. They fit so well together, they respect each other. But it's so rare to find, especially in kpop groups and in real life too. Random people coming together to form a group and being stuck with each other for years, spending every day together. Especially groups that have like 12 members. How do all these people even get along? Different personalities, different backgrounds, different opinions and ideas. What about NCT, that also amazes me how they seem to match with each other well, but we never know what's really going on behind the closed doors. It must be so mentally straining and exhausting. Now imagine one of the members being a complete jerk and you have to live with them for 7+years pretending you like each other. And it's so true how these kids sign contracts without really knowing anything. Most of them can't dance or sing straight away, they get picked because of their visuals and are "made" into idols. That entire industry is so... I love KPOP but the system truly is awful.

With all respect to BTS and NCT (and all kpop group and their fans), that's what people called "Profesionalism". I can't say they bff, but BTS clearly has good profesional relationship. This is better than forcing yourself to be a close friend. Professional relationships can actually be the beginning of friendship if they do well.

@@numeekune1398 Agreed, because we don't know their private selves, we can only speculate that they have a great private friendship (even with all the public evidence strongly supporting this notion, there's no way for us to actually know without actually knowing them). I used to work 2 jobs: one where my team had a great working relationship that it almost felt like a family and the other where there was so much drama between co-workers. In the former, it was very easy for people to agree to work extra during off-hours and get together for non-work related activities, but in the latter, many of us would only do the bare minimum needed to get out/away from each other as quick as possible. In the latter, we had to strictly stick with an official professional code just in order to function together because even the smallest conflicts could blow up. A method of bullies is to isolate everyone by making a scapegoat of one person, and then treating others around them with intermittent favouritism. This creates a mindset, however unconscious, where you are less likely to intervene or stand up for yourself/others because it was “in your best interest” to lay low/maintain favouritism. It doesn’t make sense, but that may be the point, to divide the populace. I’ve unfortunately observed and experienced something similar, and it was very hard to get out of that mindset while we were in it because each day, you were scared out of your mind. That fear tunnel visions you into figuring out how to make it through the next moment. There’s no energy left to even think about how to topple the tyrant. You’re exhausted all the time. All.
