Thank you Danny and David for bringing up the BLM news. I'm glad to know that people outside of the US are starting to pick up on the very needed conversation. I think among the asian community especially, it is important to spread the message, as many first gen asian Americans I know come into the country with a stigma against the african american community. I realized that this may be due to outdated impressions from media, but I think racism and xenophobia (intentional or not) is a huge issue even in asian communities. I hope this movement can serve to bring attention to the dangers of ignorance and fear towards things people dont bother to take the time to understand. (Btw I'm speaking from personal experience. I realize these impressions dont reflect on everyone in the asian community, which I myself am a part of, but it's important to me that this normalization of stigma against others is brought to light)

This is not specific to Suga's news, but in general Korean media and public seem to have this assumption that just because BTS is popular globally now, members owe some sort of "perfection act" to the Korean public. Anytime something small happens, the attitude I see is: "oh since you have all these priveleges now, you should have stayed grounded and shouldn't have done anything you want..." But in reality, the reason BTS is very big globally has nothing much to do with Korean general public. But now that they already are popular, the public acts as if they are indebted with their success to them. It would make sense to a certain extent if BTS was popular only in Korea but that's not the case . . .

Will they allow them to stop, to date, to live a normal life? As a black army, I appreciate the apology. I like yoongi and I personally wasn’t offended to a degree because I know he wouldn’t purposefully include something that would offend a culture...especially one he is heavily influenced by. I mean BTS literally stopped using a Korean word that sounds close to the n-word so black people wouldn’t feel uncomfortable! So I wanted to hear first what he/bighit had to say. I try to research first before making a solid conclusion of a situation instead of reading just a headline. I would say out of most companies BIGHIT is very swift with correcting an error they make even just acknowledging the error! compared to other companies. I definitely can understand fellow black armies/people being offended and no one should invalidate our feelings before a statement is put out. You cannot tell us to NOT be offended. But I feel like most people are missing the most important part of this which is the timing of this controversy. This sample was used in this song from last year. This should have been called out from then. The timing this blew up was the most disturbing part to me because this came out during the protests of BLM movement which is still ongoing. It is disturbing to me personally how far people are willing to go to tear down an idol/group to rely on emotional manipulation during a highly sensitive time for black people. Whomever blew this up knew exactly what they were trying to achieve and that’s what pisses me off the most tbh. Yes if an idol makes a mistake we need to make/hold them accountable but this could have happened last year or the moment the album dropped. Edit: Please read my comments below if you are confused as to why I brought up BLM. I am aware JJ was not racist. Thanks!

NO ONE should be attacking others for feeling hurt about the JJ situation, especially black armys who did feel hurt (aka me). i know not all black armys cared, and that’s fine, but don’t invalidate our feelings. we had every right to be upset (NOT AT SUGA BUT ABOUT THE SAMPLE). i DON’T approve of anyone attacking yoongi or trashing him, especially after there has been an apology. just because we didn’t think the sample was right and wanted it addressed, doesn’t mean we were “throwing him under the bus.” if you really love your favs, then you should be happy that they can learn and grow from their mistakes and, as a result, become a better person. [EDIT] for those who are trying to refute me: the people who are saying yoongi had a message with the sample: bighit themselves said they added it purely for aesthetic reasons and were ignorant of the meaning behind it. as a result, this argument is no longer valid. if they weren’t aware of JJ, then yoongi could not have “intended” to give out any message. and others who say it’s a PR move, you say “trust them” but then you’re not trusting them by saying they had no intentions? your excuses are full of contradictions. please acknowledge the apology for what it is. they realized their mistake - why won’t you?

Obvs it only blew up bc of antis but this could’ve been avoided. I love yoongi and have liked bts for 3 year yet especially w/ what’s going on rn i bet this must feel like betrayal for a lot of black army’s... also y’all stop saying it was a diss to jim Jones. Bh released a statement saying that they didn’t know the meaning of it and I also don’t think yoongi even produced it. the thing that bothers me a lot is that a decent amount of armys blindly trust BTS to the point where they forget their own values. They try to justify everything as right but forget that BTS are still humans and will make mistakes. Just because you call them out for doing something bad doesn’t mean u hate them or ur an anti, it just means u are able to put ur bias aside and see the issue for what it is. And just because someone makes a mistake doesn’t mean they should get canceled.

I’m scared about the possibility of fans investing in Big Hit, it reminds me of what happened with Super Junior, fans were so crazy and so mad when SM gave a hint that they would be including Henry Lau to Super Junior that a bunch of them started buying stocks so that they would be able to take control over the decisions related to Super Junior, and to this day they still use that power, that’s why Sungmin hasn’t been able to come back with the group after he got married, so please don’t give information on how fans can buy stocks, unfortunately most of them will not actually think about what’s best for BTS, their company or their careers, they will only care about what they want from them.

Honestly, this has been at the back of my mind since BigHit showed interest in an IPO. Fans are already becoming too powerful and vocal in their interferences with BTS and their 'scandals', imagine having financial power over their entire agency? I have followed religious fundamentalism in the US for quite some time and have heard numerous sermons from preachers, even going back to the 1920s, when fundamentalism really started to take hold in the US. The sample used in the song was very typical of these types of sermons.They’re overly dramatic, quoting (or twisting) scripture, often speaking about death. There’s nothing in the sample that directly references what’s to come, nothing that would be a red flag. So if the producer(s) thought that a sample from an American preacher would fit the aesthetic of the song and did a general search, it’s no surprise that this would be at the top of the list of results, given its notoriety. However, even if Jones’ name had been attached to it, with the lack of any red flags and without context or historical knowledge of the event and Jones-which let’s be honest, MANY people didn’t know about, including many in the US-I can understand why it was taken at face value as coming from your typical American fire-and-brimstone preacher and not vetted further. I most emphatically am NOT discounting how people were hurt by its inclusion but I also don’t think there was any nefarious intent or desire to cause harm. An apology was made, the sample was removed and there’s a lesson here that can benefit us all. ETA: Aside from the above, to me, the strongest argument that this was an artistic choice made out of ignorance is WHY. If the producers or Yoongi were aware of the history behind the sample, knew that it was the final death sermon from an unhinged psychopath who was about to lead-and in many cases force his followers into mass suicide, knew that its inclusion would greatly offend, hurt and possibly completely alienate a large portion of his fans and bring down the wrath of gleeful antis, and by extension, jeopardize not only BTS but Big Hit as well, WHY would they include it? Certainly not to boost sales since it was available for free. For publicity? Who wants negative publicity when you’re already at the top and the hungry wolves are circling, just itching for the chance to take you down? Yoongi is no idiot, he loves the music and appreciates and respects the culture and the people that birthed it. It just makes no sense whatsoever that including this sample was a conscious choice. None.

I am sure bts won’t lose popularity with enlistment, like armys are not going anywhere. Plus the maknae line are so so popular, so I am sure bts will be fine. Bighit wouldn’t go public if they feared bts would lose popularity you know. Plus from what I know, bighit is partnered with a big gaming company, so there’s that too. Edit: I am not saying that bts’s popularity is immortal or something. Like of course one day they won’t be as popular as now, all I am saying is that I don’t see that happening any time soon. Like I am sure enlistment won’t stop them, they are gaining new fans day by day and all the members solo works are still very successful, I don’t think enlistment will be a problem for them for now

Exactly. The members solo work do just as well the group's efforts. (Mono, HW, Tae's song and recently D-2 have some really BTS level achievements). So I'm not worried about BTS losing popularity anytime soon. After all, they seem to be still peaking. Also, BH's benX products Weverse and all are a hit. Not to mention BH's work ethic is very different from the other entertainment labels. They're moving and operating like big tech companies or media labels like CJ. I personally think BigHit must've some kind of a plan for that as well. They are not partnered with any gaming company, as far as I know. They did release some games from Net Marbles. This aside I think these days investing in gaming companies is profitable since the revenue they generate is more than music and film industries combined. Edit: fans (more like people) can be fickle sometimes. They move onto the next new or big thing (which is healthy for human nature, not to be latched onto one thing). It's really risky. One good thing I noticed about the Jim Jones speech being used is that so many people now know who that was. There were so many people who didn't know who he was and his atrocities that it made me sad whenever someone joked around about drinking the kool-aid. Art has been used throughout history to show people the good, the bad, and/or the ugly of human history. The more we know, the more we can learn and hopefully avoid similar horrible events in the future.

BH and BTS have built a good enough reputation (for me anyway) so I knew an apology was coming. Exactly! I'm thinking of every other time when people criticised BTS for a legitimate reason and they changed accordingly. People got mad that the used black style for their debut? We haven't seen them do that again. People were worried over the Korean word that sounds like the "n-word" and they don't use it anymore (or at least, I can't remember a recent album with it?). They were accused of misogyny, and I believe they now have their lyrics screened for that. We see them acknowledge and correct their mistakes all the time. And I know Yoongi will now be more careful. Just to point out a fact about how SUGA is credited as composer but not producer: composing the song and producing the song can go hand in hand but it is two different roles in a production project. A producer is the creative leader (to put it broadly) whereas a composer is following the brief to follow the producer’s creative idea generally. Also I do think that sampling was so distorted that even I couldn’t understand what was being said. I will say that I am in no way educated in this matter since Jim Jones is a massive part of US history, not mine, but before I heard about this sampling issue I never heard of Jim Jones. I would say I do think this mistake was unintentional because they might not have known about Jim Jones.

Just read the sermons, saw the pictures, etc. I many times tried to raise the volume of the track to understand what was being said and couldn't. So I agree with you. It's more than likely whoever was screening it at BH didn't realise who it was based on lack of knowledge about JJ and what he sounds like. I feel bad especially because, if what you're saying about composing and producing music (I will admit I don't know anything about creating music) is true, then Yoongi followed the idea of someone else and now is being dragged through the mud when he might not have had the idea to begin with. I’m not a black fan but I noticed that black fans who listened to his song, read the lyrics and were still upset were gaslighted. Armys were calling them antis and saying “you threw Yoongi under the bus”. The way they twisted the narrative and called Jim Jones anti Korean was some crazy mental gymnastics. I was initially defending Yoongi but after I listened to the song and read the lyrics, I could see there was no context and the sample was used for aesthetics. I completely agree. I read the apology through many times, both in English and in Korean, and it’s clear that they had no “deep” intentions with the jim jones sample like every ARMY is trying to claim; it was just used for aesthetic purposes so it’s clear to me that they were at fault for this. A part of me even knows that yoongi must have had a part in it and therefore made just as much of a mistake, but they apologized so they obviously know what they’ve done wrong. There is such a “herd mindset” in kpop fandoms these days especially with ARMY; they like to believe their idols can do no wrong and are perfectly 100% kind people when they should know that this is impossible. I have full confidence that BTS are good people with good intentions but that doesn’t mean they can’t slip up and make mistakes every once in a while. As fans we should be willing to call them out politely and help them make amends. Sometimes it just damages the idols’ reputation further when their fans refuse to accept the truth and continue to baby them. This behavior is so tiring, especially to me because I try to live my life more with reason rather than emotion, and it’s getting very old.

Bighit apologized and if you’re not black, you have no right to say anything regarding this matter. Guilt tripping others because they are disappointed with Bighit being careless, they didn’t even researched anything before releasing something, they apologized because it’s a mistake. You have no right to oblige black people to be okay with it, you have no right to say other things either. Yoongi is somehow accountable for this because the song is still under his name. 2 points... 1. Jim Jones: maybe the anti- South Korean isn't the way to say it, but he did have a rhetoric that focused on praising North Korea and the way they lived. It's been said he and his family had dinners with North Korean ambassadors and Jones used North Korean propaganda on his followers. So perhaps that is what made people claim he was anti- South Korean? Not saying it's accurate thing to say just letting you know where that might have come from. 2. Now that Kpop has reached an incredible level of success in the world, it'll also have to deal with this. Certain actions in regards to a word, style, sample, etc. might offend people from another country. Now what EVERYONE needs to remember is the response is what matters especially when "they didn't know" is thrown around (by that I mean if they didn't know, the response should be respectful and sincere and if it's not they're just using it as an excuse to avoid the issue, it's what separates a mistake from ill intent in my opinion). I hadn't seen this news about Suga until it was already dealt with (apologized and rereleased), I'm also not familiar enough with Jim Jones that I would have caught, that speech being made by him. I do think though, they dealt with this in an appropriate way. Whether it would have offended you or not, you gotta respect the sincerity of their actions in terms of how they responded and how quickly, which in my opinion show it was indeed a mistake with no ill-intent.

I originally believed the speech was intentionally used to accuse people of blindly following the false news the media distributes. Even after the apology bc to me it just seemed to fit. But, if it truly wasn't his intention, then the company should have been more cautious.

People saying that the inclusion of the Jim Jones speech was okay since the context of the song was to criticise it but the context of the song has no connection to the speech itself. BigHit already apologized and admitted that theyve made a mistake, so why are some of yall still saying to read the lyrics when the lyrics HAS NO CONNECTION TO THE SPEECH?! Also, the use of Jim Jones' speech is not prohibited as long as you use it right and know the context of it. Because using it just for aesthetic is a big insult to the people that were affected by Jim Jones

It's strange to see people defending Suga in this case, still making up excuses for him to not have to apologize (even tho he already technically did]), or excusing him still when the matter has been closed already. if you want to see BTS as humans who make mistakes and has their own rightfully faults, then do so truly. the problem here was negligence and ignorance, accept that and move on, it came in a distressful time and has affected some fans of them BIG HIT apologized to them and that's that. should they be condemned? no should they be treated as if nothing happened and pretend the did no wrong? no, they have accepted this, and hopefully, it will not happen again end of the story. don't try to still make loose ends match to unreasonably excuse him, he did what he did, he is a big man and should be held responsible(he is listed as producer and writer now maybe he didn't participate in a few parts of the composition or something was added at the end but he still should have checked the changes, it's his music after all) but also and perhaps more importantly BIG HIT should have had intervened in any case, as the company and label who is mostly under the spotlight with the importance that BTS name has, and since it is the group in which they rely the most on, they should have protected BTS and themselves against this types of misunderstandings. now if it were a random dick head they quoted one would be lenient but this is about a mass murder motherfucker who killed children, again the immediate response they had was the correct action and that's it.

The JJ situation just proved that some armys believe that bts are gods who can do no wrong. The number of people I saw calling black armys antis and telling them to leave the fandom just because they felt discomfort baffled me EDIT: I think you guys are misunderstanding me. I don't blame yoongi for what happened he apologized and owned up and that's good because some companies ignore this type of thing. I don't expect bts to know everything going on especially when it's not even their side of the hemisphere. I am taking about the actual armys (not the antis who took this as a chance to bash bts and start fanwars) the ones who were guilt-tripping people by saying 'I never turned my back on him' even though they were simply expressing their discomfort. I'm talking about the people who were wrongly put on blocklist and expose threads. EDIT 2: I'm not talking about the people who were hating black or not I'm talking about the black armys who were upset about the use of JJ (and honestly in these times can you blame them) it was resolved yes but some people are still hurt

READ! I am sure I saw many antis bashing black people on twitter. And for me, I am defo defending yoongi coz it's not possible for everyone to know what goes on in every part of the world. For eg, I am sure you know nothing about rapes, protests, police brutality, murders, mob lynching and riots going on in India rn.. They are way worse than what's happening in the USA currently. Why? Coz they happen every single day! I don't blame you tho. I CAN'T BLAME YOU FOR NOT KNOWING THAT. It's not possible to know every incident that takes place all across the globe. I didn't even know about the Jim Jones incident before this. Did you know that India-Pakistan partition back in 1947 was the reason for the BIGGEST MIGRATION IN THE HISTORY OF HUMANITY? Lemme guess, majority of ppl don't know about that. But can I blame them? No! Coz it's not their fault. So, why are we blaming yoongi for not knowing what that sample was? COZ HE IS IN BTS AND SUDDNELY HAS A RESPONSIBILITY TO KNOW HISTORY OF EVERY SINGLE COUNTRY SO HE DOESN'T MAKE SUCH MISTAKES? But I am actually glad that they did apologise and I am against all of those fans who say that apologising wasn't needed. It was needed coz that's how you learn from your mistakes. I know they made a mistake (and they are ofc not GODS). I ain't a delulu fan. And I am glad that they are reflecting on this coz it was needed. Yoongi is my bias and I follow a lot of yoongi stan accounts so when this issue erupted on twitter, I was initially angry at those who expressed hurt with the use of the sample and found myself defending yoongi at all costs like other yoongi stans. However when twitter got too toxic, I decided to log out of it and take a moment to collect myself. In that period of silence from twitter, I decided to listen to the song with the sample and looked up the lyrics and read them over and over again. It was there that I realized (this time rationally and not emotionally) that yoongi and the producers did mess up and make a mistake. Now, even as a yoongi stan, I do accept that it was irresponsible on his and the producers part to not check what the sample actually contained. I am disappointed in yoongi but then again, he makes mistakes just like everybody else. I do however appreciate yoongi’s humility to accept his mistake and I commend bighit for apologizing asap. I hope that, aside from yoongi and bighit, we all have learned from this. Let’s move on with these lessons and focus on other matters and social issues that are far more important... 💜💜💜

I am a mother of a BTS fan. I joined my daughter, at her behest, in viewing and listening to their music, so I could understand what’s going on in KPop kingdom. I liked Suga, among others, because of his rapping skills, but I was shocked when I got to read the lyrics of “What Do You Think”, before I learned about the inclusion of Jim Jones speech in the intro. I agree with you that for Suga to commit that blunder, without knowing the gravity of that sample, is unthinkable, solely because he’s considered as one of the thinkers of his group. I saw a video clip of him listening to that sample a year ago so I guess he’s fully aware of its history. Anyway, in that sample, Jim Jones, as the leader of the cult was addressing his followers, commending them for their loyalty to him. Suga, on the other hand, dissed his/their detractors, making sure they know exactly what he thinks of them, even after all these years. Now, to find the connection between Jim Jones and Suga in that song is up to our own interpretation. I would just like to say I was sorely disappointed in him for focusing on their hardships despite of their unparalleled success in the international community. He should have been more magnanimous in their victory against their detractors. After all, most KPop groups encountered a lot of difficulties, too, without achieving that level of success that his group did in so short a time.

I just want to point out that all the support from the various artists that I love has been heartwarming as a black person and I sincerely mean that. Asian culture has an anti-blackness narrative to it (these are facts from my asian friends if you don't believe me then ok but like go check it out I'm not kidding and I could even share my own experience :/ ) and also in Korea they had blackface shows in the past 5 years (blackface is very offensive if you don't know what that is then I suggest research). And it's heartwarming to see the effort bc a a black person I'm tired of defending my importance and screaming to be heard and cared for. I'm happy to see people with platforms and money taking a stand in Asian. Especially since African American culture has a impressionable impact on the pop culture there. I would like to express my concerns that in the future if a race issue comes up that I'm afraid no one will listen bc they'll say "hey so and so defended this during this time what more do you want?" And what we want is consistent action. Donating money once and reposting is a good start but it is not the end. Let's use this to open up and talk about some big uncomfortable issues ike the issue of culture appropriation and cultural insensitivity. Let's use this moment to let black kpop fans express their dissatisfaction and their hurt when we see our style and cultural aspects being appropriated for the sake of style. To appreciate is to be subjective. To appropriate is to be objective. So please understand that. I wouldn't, never have, and never will disrespectful use asian culture for a fashion sense or anything like that. That's a beautiful history I admire and respect. You can enjoy hip hop and be cool and be a cool rapper without the dreads and the braids. Furthermore, if you think it's something like """just hair""" a boy was denied walking in his graduation bc of dread locs. I've had my hair discriminated against. NY had to pass a law defending the idea that black people and their natural hair was professional. So please understand that it's not just a """hair""". Please and thank you. @radio pilots now I'm afraid no don't know what you that black people were attacking asian Americans last month for Asian American Pacific islander month. I can not fully speak for everyone however I do know a little as to why there is a reciprocation of anger and hatred. One friend shares how he has has nothing but racist experiences from Asian people and therefore he did not care much for them. I was prompt to correct him that just bc some people did him wrong doesn't mean it's ok to generalize them back. That's not how a cycle is broken. Me personally I've had Asian workers follow me in the store and accused me almost stealing something had they not """stopped me""". Moments like these can lead to black people find a disdain to Asian / Asian Americans. Also like I said Asians still engage in black face culture which was a form of mockery art done by white people to degrade black people. Any community that still engages in such behavior is bound not to be liked by the opposite group. There other reasons why the black community can be mean and disrespectful to the Asian community but here are just a few examples and two testimonials. However, I don't speak for everyone I hope this clarifies something for you. I would like to know more about the backlash you saw / seen from black people to Asian people though. I want to educate those around me better bc that sounds ridiculous to me that POC are disrespectful to other POC no matter who they are. And if I can take a mistake into a lesson I'm all ears. Before I say anything I just wanna say that I’m not trying to justify any idol(s) or group(s). I find it very odd that not many idols are donating or bringing awareness to #BLM. But on the other hand as Danny and David said they don’t really have much coverage of what’s going on but also they don’t live here (in America) so not many idols or groups can completely grasp our anger and all the reasons we demand justice not only for George Floyd but also for ALL the black lives we’ve lost from police brutality.

Adding to that, as idols I don't think they're encouraged to be outwardly political towards specific topics and if they suddenly speak up about BLM, you can guarantee there will be people from other parts of the world who will then demand they speak up for all the other issues going on and then it can snowball into something too big. We know they are kind people and they usually donate money quietly before the information is leaked out so we can't ever assume they don't care.

Regarding Jim Jones, I don’t understand why ARMY are creating random excuses for SUGA and the producers when they clearly stated that they did not know the context behind the sample. People make mistakes so it is not the end of the world... but regardless it was still irresponsible for SUGA for allowing that to be in his song, irresponsible for the producer to place in a random sample “because it fit” and irresponsible for it to pass through bighit. If it was true that SUGA used the sample in order to make a point then that should of been explained to fans and there would be no issue because many artists use controversial samples to make points. That’s just my opinion though.. 🤷🏾‍♀️ I Love Bangtan a lot but I will not coddle them when they make mistakes.

AgustD did nothing wrong. This is an explanatory case of hypocrisy at its finest. If any other black American artist used the same material nobody would mind. I am disgusted with all that circus that erupted around the sample that was used. How strange, someone realized it is not ok more than a week after it was released. Hmmm. Of course BH apologized, they apologize per default for everything the boys do and fans throw tantrum about - JK tattoos, JK long hair, color of their socks, the fact they are breathing.... it is beyond ridiculous. I have watched older black hip hop head dudes reactions to that and all stated Min Yoongi did absolutely nothing wrong. People are gullible it is hard to believe. We do not deserve artists of Suga´s caliber.

@@softepilogues7020 Fair enough, you can think and feel what you chose to. I still think he did nothing wrong. Much, much harsher and provocative texts were used as samples in hip hop culture for decades but he suddenly pays for it because he is who he is. I see it as a clear case of vindictive, vicious slander targeted at him, nothing less nothing more. And unfortunately the boys are used to this kind of unjust treatment. Hurt feelings are valid point but hurt feelings on their own do not justify gag on peoples right of free expression. Besides, it is all about context and interpretation - his sample fit the song well and doesn´t cause any harm on its own. It doens´t incite any hate towards anyone. If people used discernment and did a little research beforehand it wouldn need to come to this.

If you head to soundcloud and click view info under the song's name in D-2 album, Yoongi isn't listed as producer for the song. That being said, I'm pretty sure the producers of the song don"t carry any ill intentions either, it was a lack of thorough research of origin of the sample (if not I don''t reckon the movie will even show Yoongi working on it at all), like what Bighit has mentioned and apologized for. They should have been more careful and thorough because their songs are listened to worldwide. But I think it's really responsible and admirable to come forward and address the issue fast. It shows transparency within issues, removes doubts and that the creators really care about the music released and about the people who consume their music. I believe after this incident Bighit will now take their production process even more seriously than before.

I agree with Danny. In today's world, we must highlighting context. Thus company aiming for global market should go as diverse as possible, so they themself can learn even slight different perspective. There's no aesthetics without growing in certain realm. Contexts are matter to aesthetics. Really! The fact that Suga's mixtape incident happen, showing that the company doesn't armed with thick diversity in their line of music production (producers, mixing engineers, etc). Another CON here. Yet then, this should be a great lesson to other entertainment company in SK too. You know, since K-pop is really something global right now. Emancipated listeners also need emancipated artist, management company, music labels, system, etc. It's a challenge. A hard one. But regardless the IPO intention, the PRO is, the way BigHit apologize as fast as thunder also show that they want to learn. And that ethos is a key for a company to develop even further.

I feel like the issue with this is Army's way of handling BTS's mistakes. I am a fan of them as well but I also felt irked by the way ARMY keeps making excuses and provinding allegued explanations as to why Suga (or Jungkook with the whole Itaewon mess) did what he did. Stop guarding them and attacking people who have the right to be mad about things that hurt them. You don't feel the did something wrong? Cool. But there's other people who do and you don't get to tell them their feelings are invalid. People are dying from covid and people died because of Jim Jones. BTS can make mistakes and BTS can LEARN from them. Don't let them do harm and not allow them to understand that and do better. Obviously they feel that too as they issued in both cases official apologies. I urge you all to learn from BTS as well, their humble standing and learn to admit a mistake, stop making excuses and apologize.

ifkr, it's weird as hell. so many armies keep calling them fake fans just because they dared to question irresponsible behaviour. us fans need to find a middle, between straight up cancelling idols and straight up acting as if they can do no wrong. if we don't hold idols responsible for their behaviour than how the fuck are they going to grow. imagine the no. of black armies that were offended because of this, and honestly constantly ignoring their mistakes will actually just harm them (the idol) in the long run. theyll be labelled as problematic and rude. even the jk situation, even if the government allowed people to go out, as celebrities who are supposed to be good examples in times of crisis, jk, jaehyun and everyone else should have known better, they didn't deserve so much hate, but they had to be held responsible. I implore ARMYs to try and understand, sit back and reassess situations like this because some people were GENUIENLY hurt and confused regarding the sample used. I know people express love for artists/idols differently but trying to analyze in place of the artist and making things sound valid because of what YOU THINK THEY MEANT for a controversial song is really a big nono, especially in this case, when the sample is controversial for BAD reasons and will cause collateral damage if the reason for adding the sample was not blatant. Worse was, after BH's apology is out, alot of Armys were still "They did not have to apologise!!" etc Isit really hard to admit that humans err?? And this time it's the people involved in the production who weren't thorough enough in their research??? BH addressed the issue fast, a new version released and it shows Bighit/Yoongi really care about the music they put out, about the people who consume their music and pretty sure after this incident, they will take extra note in their production process.

i think INTENTION is incredibly important. it's more than valid to be upset by the use of the sample, but i also think it is ridiculous to start slandering yoongi's character or bighit. we know yoongi and BH are advocates of equality, personal growth, and addressing hard topics--more than most artists and companies that exist! that hasn't changed. it was just an oversight by the staff and yoongi--it happens. there is a fine line between using something edgy to start a conversation, and it being viewed as insensitive. I know many people don't think it crossed that line and was simply artistic expression, but there are many who were upset (obviously), and both are valid opinions. and NOW knowing it wasn't even used intentionally, it's even less of an issue. they released a great apology and even edited the song--that's all we can ask for. and they have learned from this now, i'm sure. they already have a WONDERFUL internal review process, which is more than many companies can say, and it was just a stupid mistake that made it through that process and i'm sure they'll be extra careful in their reviews in the future.

I am glad they admitted to the mistake, or lack of insight in this case. The Jim Jones massacre happened in my family's country and most people in the US know about the incident, its even a pop culture reference 'don't drink the Kool-aid' -- which is distasteful. His voice is very familiar if you know your United States history, how could they not do their research on the origin of those vocals? But nonetheless, everyone defending him by twisting the purpose and mistake, is shitty. Also, just because you didn’t recognize the voice does not no one else did. Everyones knowledge of history is different but the Jonestown Massacre still happened nonetheless and still reference to this day. So it’s okay to admit you didn’t know but don’t try to play it off like is a simple mistake ‘oh no one else knew.’ Well now you do,.

We know that BTS always gives 100% with their activities but they have been doing it for over 7 years now. How long until they are exhausted and can only give 50%? I have been a BTS fan since their debut but I do wonder if some of the hype they got recently will fade out eventually. I know their music is amazing but people have low attention span these days. There was a meaning behind using that exact sample, we just don't know why. I refuse to believe that anyone breathing in 2020 is this obtuse and unknowing of their own actions. I think this incident really shows how tables can turn when you have such a huge fan base. With these many people keeping an eye on literally every step you make, chances to be mistaken and forgiven get really low. I mean, there are so many ARMYs from a different countries and cultures that you really have to tip toe around to not to get on someone's feelings. I don't think that Suga is fully innocent on this. He in addition to his company made a mistake. The timing also, played it's role. With all this horrible things taking place. If it happened earlier not so many would get hurt or bash Yoongi so much. But it doesn't mean we have to jump on him and start canceling everybody left and right. This is a chance for Big Hit to realize what kind of force they have and manage things more properly. I hope the lesson is learned.

Those are just theories but that doesn't mean they're facts. He was only pro-north korean. He wanted to adopt north korea's administration for his own cult. Even DKDKtv isn't aware of him being an anti-korean. Jim Jones wasn't a significant figure in South Korean history- he was popular in America for his cult and mass murder, not for some odd hate for South Korea. How the heck did they even get that he was anti-south korean? Of course I don't condone harassing Suga, but his fans deserve to be slammed for putting words and 'meanings' in his mouth. also, I'm not black so I'm not angry about the whole sampling thing- I'm more angry at the fans making up stories and doxxing others who speak out to this. I am familiar with the saying as well. That being said, I would not have recognized that speech if it hadn't been pointed out. I think it's a major oversight on behalf of BigHit if it truly was just used for no real reason. If I'm sampling from something in a different language, I'm definitely looking it up to make sure it's not anything inappropriate. They were correct in editing out that part of the song. I accept the apology and I'm not going to cancel BTS over this. I bet from now on they will step up their checking game to avoid this happening again. And for the ARMYs, I love how hard they go for the boys, but sometimes I just am frustrated with how they behave. First instinct is going to be to defend them, but don't make things up or try to throw others under the bus to help them save face.Try to acknowledge that sometimes they're in the wrong. No many black army were not hurt. I am a mixed blood army who thought hell yes at its use. Plus Jim Jones was not against black people. In fact many of his followers that died in that tragedy were black. Jim Jones was anti-Korean. He manipulated people who followed him blindly like sheep to the slaughter never questioning his bigoted ways against those not of America. Heavens look into it people before sharing. I thought hell yes when I found out it was Jim Jones used. I was in college when that tragedy happened. I am keeping my purchase of original version. Proud of Suga & co-producers who worked on the song. The beginning is very distorted. That anti who began this witch hunt had to really research hard to come up with anything to damage Suga/BTS. Now that apology sent there is another anti Suga movement in which they are calling Suga a liar for claiming mix tape as self-produced. Suga is main producer but each song had assist or co-producers on them. Did no one read the credits for this mix tape? Do those doing this realize all artists have assist on production? A production team with head producer. You see it wasn't use of Jones speech or this would be over. But now they moved on to something else to bring Suga down. All of our beautiful black army I hope u understand that a lot of the hate you guys were getting were not Real army’s there were a lot of fake accounts going around saying mean hurtful things to turn you against the fandom and then boys. And they achieved a lot of that. big hit apologized , and I’m sure he is beating himself up for it. Don’t think real army don’t feel your pain and your hurt a lot of us have felt it too. A lot of the fandom have signed petitions marched along side you and donated. We don’t know the reasons they haven’t spoke on it if it’s their label, contracts or whatever. Have faith that they will do something that they do feel your pain. Right now is a time to stand together. Don’t let other people influence you to pull away.. we are family and so are they . Stay strong we are with you !

this whole thing was sad. the amount of army’s that came out as anti black during all of this was crazy. black people are allowed to be angry at what yoongi did. yes other artist have used it and from what i know black army’s don’t support these artists or care or use their money for these artists so that why black army’s were more on yoongi because they trust and spend money on yoongi. you guys bringing up receipts of jim jones being anti korea isnt exactly accurate. he was more pro north korean that anti south korean. no matter what receipts you put out black people especially black army’s can be angry at this and you telling them that they are fake fans for holding yoongi accountable is anti black as you are disregarding the feelings of black people and speaking over them. yoongi is a grown man and everything in this video was accurate. yoongi wasn’t dissing jims jones he was flexing his money and wealth and the part about him not knowing doesn’t make sense to me. yoongi isn’t fluent in english so why would he allow the producers of his song to put something in his song and not ask what is this and what does this message mean. my point is allow people to be angry especially black people. stop making up excuses for yoongi he is a grown man and should be accountable for his actions. stop babying bts. stop blaming everyone else for what yoongi did and stop lying. no this is not a diss i’m just tired of how army’s treat black army’s and it needs to stop. i as a black person will still continue to support bts and all members however, i won’t accept this apology from bighit please understand that

I'm concerned you think it's ok to be angry over that instead of saying it's ok to question it.... No they should not have been angry or dissapointed before they had the full story. If you get angry you will only get anger thrown back at you and that gets ugly. instead of anger and hate it should have been polite questioning. On both sides it got ugly and bad and absolutely not ok.

No they arent. Yoongi as a Korean has a right to use a speech from a known North Korean supporter, even more when HIS OWN CITY HAS A CULT PROBLEM. Your american feelings do not matter more than a Korean's opinions.
@zeldawolff358
@zeldawolff358 4 жыл бұрын
I agree with most of what you said. However, Yoongi most likely TRUSTED El Capitxn and Ghstloop to not use something controversial. He most likely assumed that whatever was happening in the beginning of the song, was already reviewed after the other two produced the audio file he was given. According to Soundcloud credits Yoongi only wrote the song, and probably composed the melody (as in the actual musical notes progression). There's a difference between composing and producing after all.

Pro North Korean is anti South Korean. North korea wants to take over South Korea, that’s clearly anti South Korea. And most South Koreans want a united korea, they want their brothers and sisters up north to join them. Every South Korean I’ve met or have heard talk about north korea believes that North Koreans and South Koreans are just Koreans. Like west and east Germany in ww2. They want the NK regime to end so their people can be free. So being a supporter of the NK regime means being against South Korea and all Koreans. At least in the average South Korean perspective. So he clearly has a reason to sample Jim Jones. I’m just upset because they said it was a mistake, literally no meaning behind the sampling. How can you be that successful and accidentally use a Jim Jones sample? Without any reasoning at all? Insane.
@krissve
@krissve 4 жыл бұрын
No they don't. They should've done research. Jim Jones was actively hurting South Koreans as well and he had the right to use the speech to make a point in his song. Why none of the other artist that used the sample were attacked? Ahh because they are not Korean? So you're right, is a race thing, people fighting against racism pretty much showed their racism 🙄

The 'Jim Jones being anti-korean' made sense to me however i have a big problem with non-black armys using this to talk over black armys and making them feel like their hurt isn't valid. Also ...if its been sure that it was used purely for aesthetic then idk that's actually disgusting. I really hope yoongi can clear this up if there was a different meaning behind it.

Why is Big Hit apologising? Wasn't Suga accountable since he is the producer of the song? Why are they deflecting the blame on a non existent culprit. The clowenry is real. And all the delulu armys are not helping the situation.

I completely agree with Danny about the jim jones thing. I found it strange that they sampled a speech and no one in the company decided to look into it like what is it about, who is saying it etc. The producer just randomly came across it and used it? If the person who put the sermon searched for it then how come he/she did not know about it's context? Because I don't think many people know about Jim Jones. Irresponsibility on their part. But I'm glad they issued an apology and edited that part out because some people were saying how the lyrics are dissing him as he was anti-south korean (which I searched but didn't find anything like that) but there was no correlation to it. The lyrics speak about his goals of a Grammy and other stuff and there is no mention of dissing him. As an army, I was disappointed to see that other armys were mad angry about the apology and still believed he was dissing him when in the statement it clearly states that they themselves didn't know about the historical relation of the sample. Imo an explanation was needed and I'm glad it cleared the air. I'm not disappointed in them (bighit and yoongi) because they are humans and mistakes do happen. It was an ignorant mistake but that is how people learn. They can't always be perfect and things like these are what teaches them and it's never a bad thing to learn. This will actually do them good in future because they will be more careful. And now the case is closed so people should quit arguing about it and enjoy the festa. After all its their 7th anniversary and that's what people should look forward to now

Im gonna be honest here. When i first heard the song i did think the begining part sounded like some sort of in passion speech. But it was so dissorted i thought the sample was from germany or something😅 it was so dissorted for me i could not jndedstand. I understand the outrage though but because bts and big hit have been very honest, open , and suprise me at every turn as someone who belives in the corrupt nature of companies, i believe it was a mistake. And haters, yes yoongi can make mistakes, he is human. So is everyone else in this company to my knowledge Edit: but i do agree with danny wtf how did you not google this?

I'm an Army and I love BTS so much but seeing how Armys reacted to this sampling controversy made me realize that some Armys love to BTS has reached a level where they have to be stopped. They're bashing Big Hit for releasing an apology because hater will now think Suga did make a mistake and and he should never say so. Like, BTS are humans too. What's the big deal about saying sorry?? BTS and Big Hit as well have no trouble saying sorry and their apology absolutely relived offended people. So I don't understand that mentality of worshiping BTS that some Armys have. I feel like if BTS went out and killed random people in the streets (which they will NEVER do), some Armys will give 100 excuses for that and might even say that the victims lives don't matter. I it's great to be a Kpop fan, but worshiping the idol and not admitting even the small flaws in their work that won't even damage their career is an absolute stupidity
