I never get tired of this interview. Jimmie's playing is truly inspiring. His phrasing says so much about space and note choice and not overplaying.......just as he talks about. I think it takes years to get to that point. The older I get, the more I appreciate space in playing.

I love Jimmie Vaughan, one of the best roadhouse players ever to grace a stage, pure style, pure feeling. Economical playing doesn't mean you're limited, it means you have a pronounced sense of style. The Fabulous Thunderbirds took a great big chomp out of the 80's and made life fun again. I love the part about him describing being in a guitar pull with a room full of the greats wondering what he was gonna do when it was his turn.

I first seen Jimmie at Grant Street Dance Hall in Lafayette La. in the early or mid 70's and was hooked from then. Never missed any show he put on if I was anywhere near.

He took time to talk to me and my girlfrind, talk about his guitar that he was playing that night, and even talked about my home town and plus photos with him. JV's playing in Very original! That night, he performed 3 hours of jazz standards, all instrumental! That night of meeting this great guitarist changed my musical life forever! I

at the end he was talking about feeling it - when you play slow, the brain has time to process the data - the sound- and offer a chemical response which is the appropriate emotion. when you play fast, this emotion is bypassed and a lot of the feeling is lost

rather annoying, like little kids that get jealous if a friend becomes friends with another kid. Both Jimmie and Stevie are more than spectacular. Different styles do not equal less talent. I for one prefer many styles with equal appreciation for each. I picture negative people as couch potatoes, with the same hairstyle, clothing, and aversion to any differences or changes they've had since they were toddlers. Their pleasure comes from berating the talents of others to fill the void of their own lack of talent and insecurity. It's sad to think of the sheltered, dull, boring existence these folks must have. I couldn't imagine living only being able to fully appreciate one style or one artist or one genre of music. Jimmie Vaughan, Stevie Ray, Jimmie Hendrix, Jimmy Page, Santana, Jeff Beck, Bonnamassa, B.B., so many so unbelievably talented...kenny wayne...they're ALL supremely superb and each one as great as the other and they've all made this world better and more enjoyable!! So grateful that God gave us these gifts even if some were not among us as long as we would have liked.

@speckman2591 So you think that JV should talk about SRV every time someone asks him a question? That's ridiculous. They're asking him about his influences. JV has a totally different style from his little brother (and I LOVE SRV, too, by the way) so it's only to be expected that he doesn't mention him. As for rankings, we're talking about music, not a running race. whether you like JV or not, he DOES have his own style and sound. You can tell it's him by listening to just one note.

Listen to those early T-Birds records....I'll put those up against ANY blues record....I was somewhat dismayed when he started doing the capo thing cuz it changed his style...To me his style is killer rhythm and his version of BB King style lead...
