Looks like everything worked out fine, I don't know of a cheaper way that wouldn't take a lot longer (except 10 people helping, that is Chinese method). I spent some years volunteering at a warplane museum, started with sweeping floors, bucking rivets, holding the end of heavy things, and got to see some amazing work accomplished by WW2 and later veterans, and very experienced A&P mechanics, learned so much and regret not following in their footsteps, but I just wasn't built to do that for a full time job. Seeing the engine come out of a B17, or a Mosquito built from scratch on jigs was such an amazing experience. But you got a good older good condition to put back together. It was great to see old planes being saved and to fly again! If I were tasked with this, I probably would have thought about renting a small forklift from a local industrial equipment supplier (supplied with extended length forks) to allow the height needed and also provide a little mobility once it was off the floor - assuming there was enough maneuvering room in the hangar. Another option would have been a boom crane, and these are available on Amazon but probably not of the height, capacity and reach required.

I have taken a number of aircraft apart and put them back together including Twin Cessna's and fighter jets. Have always used a forklift and a long pallet with car tires as padding. The forklift should have side shifter which makes moving the wing into place on the fuselage a breeze. You need to be very careful if you're using straps as you can collapse the structure. With a forklift lifting from underneath there is less chance of "dropping" structures
