Back when, think of it, people were cool who were proud of their country.

Well, this was news to me! I had no idea that Jimmy and Garry even knew each other, much less partners. And they work really well together, much better than the ill-fated Durante and Keaton movie parring. It's all about chemistry and for some reason, these two have IT, whatever it is. I learned an awful lot on this rather important episode.

Lou Clayton never made it to live TV with Jimmy, 'campbellhen'- he died in 1950, but not before advising his old friend and partner to go into television, accurately predicting that people wanted to SEE "The Great Schnazolla" even more than when they heard him on radio- and Durante listened to whatever Lou told him. Yet, in every TV show he headlined, Jimmy always made SURE there was a spot for Eddie Jackson...

Jimmy and Garry (known informally as "The Nose and the Haircut") co-starred on radio from 1943 through '47, on two different networks {NBC and later, CBS}- at first, on a replacement program for "THE ABBOTT & COSTELLO SHOW" (after the sudden death of Lou's infant son), known as "THE CAMEL COMEDY CARAVAN". By 1945, "THE JIMMY DURANTE-GARRY MOORE SHOW" was on for Rexall Drugs ["Good health to all, from REXALL!!"]...

@tomservo56954 Wow, I never realized that either. I think we all spotted the Gleason/Carney spoof in "The Flintstones" and the Phil Silvers/Bilko stuff in "Top Cat" but Augie Doggy/Doggy Daddy is one H-B cartoon that I haven't thought about in many years.

I never realized before seeing this that the Moore-Durante pairing was the inspiration for the cartoon team Augie Doggie and Doggie Daddy--I knew Daddy was spoofing Durante, but just thought Augie was a generic straight man/offspring.

The link to Part 1 appears at the end of the description for this video, doesn't it? I tried to enter it again here (in this comment) but KZbin won't let me. Durante doesn't appear in it, though.
