The thunder at the end shares a symbolic message, in my opinion, that we should never wait until it’s too late to ask ourselves where we have placed our debts. It’s vitally important to do so because time is a precious commodity that only moves forward.

I can honestly say that over the last 20 years, this has been one of my top favorite bands throughout that entire time of my life. I've had so many ups and downs in all of those years, and Jimmy Eat World has always been the soundtrack for my life. I'm so grateful for this band and I hope they know how much they mean to me. It breaks my heart that I've never had the chance to see these guys live, but I cling to the hope that the stars will align and my twin brother and I can see them before they call it quits.

They're phenomenal in a live setting. Be sure you find a way someday.
@ChrsGuit2 жыл бұрын
I absolutely agree. I've been with them since Bleed American came out while I was in High School... Never really took the step to see them live... I guess for many years, the opportunity was there, I just didn't realize I could just hop in a car and go see them... I was always "too broke" "too busy", etc... I saw them for the first time right after a traumatic breakup with a girl Inwas going to marry (who cheated on me with my best friend.) J.E.W was something thwt really tied her and I together, as they were our favorites. I was crushed, and instead of telling myself "no", I decided from the moment that relationship and friendship ended, that there was no more excuses. I finally had a chance to see the country and do whatever I wanted to do... That was 2013, over a decade into my love for J.E.W... and I figured what better way to start healing and get retribution than to go see them WITHOUT her, since we had talked about it many times... I went to see them.in Charlotte and it was very emotional, FINALLY seeing them live and in person. I bought tickets a few weeks later for their Asheville show, even closer to my home. Soon after my (now) wife and I got together. I've seen them live on the "Futures" 10'th anniversary tour, and a total of 7 times... Believe me when I say, you MUST go see them... find a way... do whatever you can, because I missed out on it for so very long... Hell, tickets aren't even that expensive usually... $30-50 apiece depending on the venue... take a day or two, drive out and catch a show and get an affordable hotel for the night... DO IT!

@@ChrsGuit Thanks for sharing your story man. I'm so sorry to hear about what happened with the first girlfriend cheating with your best friend, but it sounds like things turned out for the better, and the fact that you were able to heal and not let your memories of the past ruin J.E.W. for you is really awesome. I'm not giving up on seeing these guys yet, if they're within a day or two of driving and I'm able to do it, I won't let it pass me by. Thanks again for sharing the inspirational story of you and Jimmy Eat World.

Seems clear that the lyrics are about us, as a human race - continually falling for the same lies. The 'American Dream', war, reality shows, politicians, the wealthy, news. It's all manufactured lies, and people keep buying it. He's saying, we can be better, and happier if we only tried to be more honest with ourselves.

This is beautiful. A song that just came out, and now I can't imagine Jimmy Eat World without it! I read Jim's writeup on their site, "The 'Debt' you rack up is the time you spend avoiding doing the work to know yourself. You buy an ending every time you start something, and the cost is determined by how closely you pay attention to your personal condition." ("Be present in your time along the way.") Makes me think of the saying "breathe into it" rather than resist (pain, etc.) and how acceptance is actually more active than passive. 2:30 in I got so emotional. The sound is so good.

I’ve listened to this song countless times since it’s release. Does anyone else get the feeling that the messages in their music guides us to finally get it right. Everyday is unique in that we have what it takes to correct our path. We can use the pain we undergo in this life as plant food to build up that dream of becoming a writer, musician, or maybe an artist. I know for me “growing pains” is a figment of my everyday thought patterns and now that I am 43 I can no longer live under the microscope of a lie, at all costs my dreams will come into fruition. I have Jimmy Eat World specifically Jim Adkins for connecting with l dreamers and saving lives with their music.
