I think with the Black Crowes, Jimmy rediscovered some of that old spirit before the loss of John Bonham.

People looking for perfection, ain't gonna get it from Jimmy. That's not what the blues, or rock n roll is all about. It's all about pouring yourself in your music. Jimmy plays a lot of notes in this performance, but they aren't meaningless notes. They are an explosion from his soul. That's what makes it so exciting. Every guitar player does it different. This is the way Jimmy does it.

Classic example of Jimmy Page's adventures on the fretboard, it's a total adventure and you never know where it will go. But Jimmy always gets back on track in style

Jimmy Page was never a lyricist, he was a musical plagiarist, he was always ripping off traditional Black-American bluesmen and British folk songs. I will agree, he was certainly an amazing guitarist. As for the rest, please do your homework on Zep's history of plagiarism. Not my opinion, but a fact.

VERY few players play accurate with emotion, for example Randy Rhoads always knew exactly what he was playing but the meaning of the notes was still so deep. Same with Van Halen. BOTH these guys can play 'out' when they want to though and it still sounds great as well. Point being emotion comes first in exciting guitar stuff.

This is an excellent performance. The recorded heartbreaker solo itself is disjointed and in random spasms of shredding, even in the studio version. That’s why it sounds weird live to some people; that’s how the solo itself is

Define "competent". Jimmy is an enormously influential guitarist (not a mere "player"), composer, producer and his songs/licks/riffs have standed the test of 40+ years (otherwise what the heck are you doing here checking his video?) and Zeppelin keeps drawing a huge ammount of attention even when the guys played a single concert 6 years ago. Now tell me that's not being a "competent player"...
