He mentioned Zeppelin, because he wanted to highlight the fact that after both left their mark on The Yardbirds, no matter how big and popular he (Page) got with Plant, Jones, Bonham, in Led Zep, Page is still in awe of Beck and thinks that Jeff is a better guitarist than he is. He was being gracious and admiring the guitar work of his old friend.

Page was being very gracious and cool to a guy who he realizes can play guitar beautifully in ways he could never do. Two fantastic guitarists. IMHO, Page is the far better songwriter, Page is a lot bluesier and rock oriented, as well. However, Beck is jazzier and technically a better guitarist even better than Jimmy Page. For example, one of Jeff's biggest songs ever, Page wrote "Beck's Bolero", and Beck's style of playing makes it his own.
@victorwilburn8588
@victorwilburn8588 3 жыл бұрын
@@nycinstyle: Beck's first solo record (Truth) was very much in the LZI vein of hard blues rock, so they did start out exploring the same ground. Then Page doubled down on that with Zep and Beck went off in different directions (e.g. the fusion of Blow by Blow as Page points out). I would say a couple of things differentiated LZI from Truth. First of all, Page had a better group (though the Jeff Beck group was still top notch, just not quite up to the Zeppelin snuff). Secondly, Page was a better producer in the studio and did a better job of capturing and focusing that sound. Otherwise, the albums are VERY similar in style and the direction they were trying to take rock and roll.

Lori Maddox lost her virginity to David Bowie, but he wasn't the only rock star she would sleep with during her groupie days. In fact, she is better known for her relationship with Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page. In her words, Page had Zeppelin manager Richard Cole "kidnap" her (Cole is also known as the man responsible for the infamous Zeppelin "mud shark" incident.) Maddox was just 14 when their relationship started; Page was 28.

Because of Jimmy Page I am able to make money with my music. To me, a man like Jimmy Page that can inspire such a young kid, 30 years passed his prime, to bring that kid to start a totally new chapter of his life, just because of ONE song. That type of man, is a true man of greatness.

This was without question 2 things the hall of fame did right, they inducted Jeff Beck and had Jimmy Page do it. For many who aren't guitar players or musicians they might not "get it" when it comes to Jeff, but both these guys had their purpose and left their mark, the innovative jazz fusion blues of Jeff to the mighty Led Zeppelin and the friendship and history between them, Jimmy Page is a humble genius song writer, player, producer, and Jeff "the rebel" who took guitar where he wanted it to go and they're friends to the end, anyone else think the Page/Beck story would make a great movie??

So Pagey says 'my wonderful friend'. Sometimes we forget stuff in the competitive atmosphere that was the British Blues explosion in the 60s but ya know he and Beck were childhood friends and listened to the blues in their bedrooms in the 60s. Page also recommended Beck for the Yardbirds after Eric left. Say what you want but they're childhood friends discovering the blues together in the 60s. Page does a beautiful induction of not just a fellow guitarist but a friend in the very early days. He also quite humbly recognises that Beck has become even better. That's not only true but very humble. I think his speech is the best R'n'Roll hall of fame ever. I just love how he recognises not just what an incredible musician Beck is but they're friendship from a very tender age. Top points here.

Hendrix? I couldn't call Page "best" but I wouldn't give that to Hendrix either. Jimi certainly had the potential to be remembered as "best" but didn't last long enough to get there for me. Jimmy Page was onto something you may have missed. He talked about how Beck just kept getting better as the years went by. Years in which Page went on to play in a more successful and popular band......and Hendrix simply wasn't around for. GREATNESS isn't something you're born into. Greatness on guitar is talent and desire developed over time.

Jimmy was the best player/producer combo. Jeff as he said keeps getting better. When Beck is red hot, he's the best of the trio, Jeff, Eric, and Jimmy but they all have their place.

When Jimmy Page says you're an incredible guitarist, you're freaking incredible! Beck's always pushed himself to evolve from one project to the next... Jeff Beck has done as much as anyone for the electric guitar, period!

I couldn't imagine having someone like Jimmy Page say the things he said about Jeff. Jimmy is so humble it's almost disgusting.

Honestly... I think Page looks cooler old than he did young. He was always kind of an odd looking geek while still being an absolute badass, but now he looks like a kind wizard with a house’s worth of tricks up his sleeve. It’s even cooler to me.

Now we are waiting for the Queen to do the right thing. If she can honor Rod Stewart, Ringo Starr and Elton John, all of which have not done much worthwhile since the 70-es, she can honor Jeff Beck

Page had his friend Roger Mayer make him a distortion pedal or fuzz box and he gave one to Beck, Page and Beck were playing heavy distorted guitar before Hendrix or Blackmore or Iommi, they were the pioneers of heavy metal with their dual guitar attack especially Page with his guitar work and production techniques and his luck to find a heavy hitter like Bonham

Bozo would play of Jimmy riff like no other could. most drummer just keep the beat unlike Bozo his bass drum made the differnts that sat him higher than all others.What can you say about JEFF he can make a guitar sing and Jimmy should be the next KING OF ENGLAND.

The Kinks used to destroy their Amps loudspeakers to attempt at getting a more distorted sound. But I think credit should be given to the one of the most under-rated legends, Steve Marriott from the Small Face (Itchycoo Park, Tin Soldier etc) and Humble Pie! The Who is regarded as the first Mod band, when in truth it was the Small Faces!

Well I think that as long as an artist thinks it's not the best of all, it still has room to improve with its art, that is a thing that gods like him are always (indirectly) teaching to beginner artists. And that's really important.
