Lori Maddox lost her virginity to David Bowie, but he wasn't the only rock star she would sleep with during her groupie days. In fact, she is better known for her relationship with Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page. In her words, Page had Zeppelin manager Richard Cole "kidnap" her (Cole is also known as the man responsible for the infamous Zeppelin "mud shark" incident.) Maddox was just 14 when their relationship started; Page was 28.

Page was being very gracious and cool to a guy who he realizes can play guitar beautifully in ways he could never do. Two fantastic guitarists. IMHO, Page is the far better songwriter, Page is a lot bluesier and rock oriented, as well. However, Beck is jazzier and technically a better guitarist even better than Jimmy Page. For example, one of Jeff's biggest songs ever, Page wrote "Beck's Bolero", and Beck's style of playing makes it his own.
@victorwilburn85883 жыл бұрын
@@nycinstyle: Beck's first solo record (Truth) was very much in the LZI vein of hard blues rock, so they did start out exploring the same ground. Then Page doubled down on that with Zep and Beck went off in different directions (e.g. the fusion of Blow by Blow as Page points out). I would say a couple of things differentiated LZI from Truth. First of all, Page had a better group (though the Jeff Beck group was still top notch, just not quite up to the Zeppelin snuff). Secondly, Page was a better producer in the studio and did a better job of capturing and focusing that sound. Otherwise, the albums are VERY similar in style and the direction they were trying to take rock and roll.
@nycinstyle3 жыл бұрын
He mentioned Zeppelin, because he wanted to highlight the fact that after both left their mark on The Yardbirds, no matter how big and popular he (Page) got with Plant, Jones, Bonham, in Led Zep, Page is still in awe of Beck and thinks that Jeff is a better guitarist than he is. He was being gracious and admiring the guitar work of his old friend.

This was without question 2 things the hall of fame did right, they inducted Jeff Beck and had Jimmy Page do it. For many who aren't guitar players or musicians they might not "get it" when it comes to Jeff, but both these guys had their purpose and left their mark, the innovative jazz fusion blues of Jeff to the mighty Led Zeppelin and the friendship and history between them, Jimmy Page is a humble genius song writer, player, producer, and Jeff "the rebel" who took guitar where he wanted it to go and they're friends to the end, anyone else think the Page/Beck story would make a great movie??

So Pagey says 'my wonderful friend'. Sometimes we forget stuff in the competitive atmosphere that was the British Blues explosion in the 60s but ya know he and Beck were childhood friends and listened to the blues in their bedrooms in the 60s. Page also recommended Beck for the Yardbirds after Eric left. Say what you want but they're childhood friends discovering the blues together in the 60s. Page does a beautiful induction of not just a fellow guitarist but a friend in the very early days. He also quite humbly recognises that Beck has become even better. That's not only true but very humble. I think his speech is the best R'n'Roll hall of fame ever. I just love how he recognises not just what an incredible musician Beck is but they're friendship from a very tender age. Top points here.
