imo meloetta's relic song swapping mechanic should persist even out of battle, allowing you to use it in battle if you want to do gimicky swapping mixed sets, or allowing you to just run meloetta pirouette on its own. meloetta P would actually be such a great pokemon if u didnt have to jump through a hoop mid battle to get it. imagine that thing scarfed or banded

Taking Relic Song's "change forme" effect and instead giving it to an item to change formes outside of battle, with the move instead changing between Relic Song and some new move with the same effect but physical called... i dunno, Archaic Dance, would probably make Meloetta a lot nicer to use overall. Unfortunately, it does take away what makes Meloetta so unique but so unviable, the ability to change forme mid-battle, which was the whole point of it as a gimmick... sort of a conflict between viability and uniqueness there.

I just want to give a couple of the lower tier ones some justice Shaymin wasn't just ran because it was a hyped new pokemon like electavire, it's actually a far simpler situation. It was bad in OU when latias was allowed, and when latias was first banned shaymin became quite good, not a meta definer but a solid respectable member of the tier. It already was on a downturn due to the rise of clefable, but latias coming back to the tier killed it

Zarude had a minor niche in gen 8 OU and absolutely ran UU for most of the generation Fiance was always a lower tier mon, but it is consistently one of the best in whichever tier it winds up in

The larger problem for keldeo wasn't kartana, it was Greninja and toxapex Greninja outclassed it completely in its role as an offense killer, and it was mostly better as a wallbreaker due to dark coverage being a lot better and the power of battle bond. The effect of Greninja on team building was also a huge part of why keldeo fell, because most of the Greninja answers (toxapex, tapu fini, tapu bulu, and tangrowth) were also problems for keldeo, as the only ones it dealt with better than Greninja were gastrodon (easier to fit HP grass), clefable and av magearna( brute force through with hydro works better) Toxapex completely ruined the best keldeo set (specs) and was incredibly hard to remove with appropriate teammates

If I remember correctly seismic toss couldn't actually break it, and though most of the time Pex carries Haze, on the fringe sets where it didn't, it also 1v1s Pex.

Transferring a pokemon from Go to Home does two things; gives you access to the box that makes Meltan spawn in Go, and puts a fully evolved Melmetal in your Home box. you only need to collect the candies if you actually want a Melmetal to use IN Go

Mythical pokemon aren't considered as legendaries, they are more rare than a simple legendary pokemon. Game freak lasted a lot of time to decide. In gen 7 more or less they launched an official questionnaire, in which they asked which pokemon was not a legendary pokemon. The correct answer was a mythical

The problem with being less specific is it goes against what language was created to do, share information. If I told someone, pick up a rectangular object, then got mad because I meant a square shaped object, that's on me for not specifying. Feel like Marshadow deserves to be #3 in the list. Being an absolute elite mon in Ubers in both gens it existed in is quite a lot better than some of the mons ranked above it, especially the ones that are not Ubers anymore in the current day.

Ghost/Fighting is an even better offensive STAB combo than the classic BoltBeam, and on a Pokemon with the stats of a bulky Weavile, the strongest Technician-boosted STAB priority in Shadow Sneak, and one of the dumbest signature moves in the game. It often doesn't even run coverage on its sets since it doesn't need any. Imagine if it got nonsense like Storm Throw and Last Respects when it comes back.

I remember i gen 8 vgc during the end of the game, for one month mythical pokemon were allowed and you could use 6 Legendary pokemon. Magearna was simply the best. It was used on trickroom and every pokémon who faint gave him a boost. It was simply unstoppable, better than most of the legendaries.

Give Meloetta Boomburst I also have to add that for a while Meloetta was extremely good in AAA and basically created the regenVest meta in early gen 6 which is still the main way special threats are addressed now, having access to Knock Off and Uturn and normal typing being able to wall SFLO Gengar, it more or less took over after Goodra because simply having Melo + a scarf revenge Killer (or a gale wing mon in gen 6) was often enough to not have to worry about special attackers anymore. It was so good that the meta eventually shaped around it

Slight correction on Mythical VGC legality: They are *exceptionally rarely* legal in VGC - during Series 13 in Sword and Shield, they were legal for play on the ranked ladder (and yes, a ladder is technically a kind of tournament) That format only lasted a month, only covering September of 2022, but it *was* an official format where you could earn points towards Worlds qualification.

The difference between mythical and legendary Pokémon is that legendary Pokémon are 1)catchable in regular gameplay and 2) known to the general public of the Pokémon world. Mythical Pokémon are 1) USUALLY only available through an event and 2) are only rumored to exist in-universe (hence the lack of regular catchability)

As I said on the Meloetta Hackmons video, Meloetta is my favorite Mythical for what it represents to me as a person who enjoys singing, but if were talking aside from what the various mythicals represent and more so gameplay/personal expireince reasons, then Darkrai or Arceus would have to be it, both for how I first encountered them, Darkrai from walking around out of bounds in Diamond with an action replay straight left from Shaymin's arena arriving right on its island unexpectedly, and Arceus from how I got one from the DreamWorld event back in gen 5 and how cool of a way to distribute a Pokémon that was, even if it was very miss able for that same reason with the dream world being a thing you had to link your gen 5 game to on the Pokémon website and what not.

0:14 Since Mythical Pokemon are really just a Subcategory of Legendary Pokemon, I also sometimes just call them Legendary Pokemon as well. The distinction technically matters for VGC's sake, but without VGC its just a way of saying "this isn't normally attainable in game".

the funny thing about the dark void nerf for smeargle was that at the same time they patched smeargle using dark void aswell (and geomancy, dont know if anything else), so the accuracy drop was just collatoral for no particular reason lol

I wish Arceus had access to every TM, just like Mew, and tbh, it’s baffling lorewise that it doesn’t, but evident in a balancing perspective. But really, just take a moment to appreciate Arceus fighting clicking SD boosted Close Combats, or special Arceus variants that have access to Nasty Plot. The possibilities are endless, truly amazing

It’d be pretty interesting if they ever made mythicals legal in VGC, and I don’t mean that one format SwSh had; I mean like, if a mythical is naturally obtainable in game then it can be used, but only for the generation it can naturally be obtained in. Stuff like ORAS Deoxys, SwSh Keldeo, PLA Manaphy/Phione/Arceus (this would correlate to BDSP competitive), & SV Meloetta. BDSP Mew/Jirachi, PLA Darkrai/Shaymin, & Pecharunt are kind of a gray area. The first two sets require save data from other games, sure that’s not too dissimilar from needing other games for other strong Pokémon, but at least you’d have to play through the other game to obtain an exclusive Pokémon in a regular scenario; here you’re basically paying $60 for one Pokémon if you’ve no intention of playing through the required game (unless you’re just borrowing a cartridge from a friend). And in the case of Pecharunt, you do have to play through an entire epilogue story arc to catch it and all, so it technically is part of the base game with plot relevance, but the problem is that rather than have an NPC give you the mythic pecha berry item after you beat Indigo Disk to trigger the epilogue, they put it behind an indefinite mystery gift; it’ll always be available, but it still has that extra factor about it.

I'm shocked to learn that Arceus is a mythical. But my favorite is probably Jirachi. The thing is cute and has an aggravating ability. Speaking of abilities, Magearna's is UNFAIR in that it still gets a boost even if it didn't directly kill the mon. It's stronger than Moxie and the other boost clones.

The fact Zarude doesn't have the best typing and basically no ability yet great stats and movepool allow it to be great in UU in both Gen 8 and 9 is quite impressive. Not everything is so one sided Jimothy.

Also Manaphy kind of stands out in that it can pull a faster variant of the Crocune set (which is an ancient mono attacking Suicune with Surf, Rest, Sleep Talk and Calm Mind that harkens back all the way to the Gold/Silver meta). Manaphy is kind of faster in that it can forfeit Sleep Talk for Rain Dance. Exchanging Surf for Scald loses some raw power but it gets offset by the rain and the burn chance with its implied relative physical defense boost more than makes up for it. If you keep your rain turns in mind and play around the offensive threats (as you do with a boosting tank) then Manaphy is just disgusting.

Shaymin probably would have stayed DPP OU proper if we didn’t unban Latias, and I think it’s OU technicality period was mostly based on the non-latias no Salamanca period.

It sucks that mythicals are rarely usable in VGC because some of these are shockingly strong in doubles! Meloetta, for instance, has a rare combo of support moves. Trick Room, Coaching, Thunder Wave and Helping Hand all on one Pokemon is hard to match. Also, while it is bulky and supportive, it has Farigiraf’s offensive movepool and higher stats, so Throat Spray + Hyper Voice is a shockingly good option for people who think they can just focus Meloetta’s teammates that it is buffing up. Diancie’s traits come together to turn a truly mid singles mon into a doubles god. Clear Body blocks intimidate and Diamond Storm is one of the strongest spread moves. It benefits so much from any support because of this and is always a huge trick room threat. Mew is like Meloetta+. It was actually so good at abusing Coaching that it got the move banned in Natdex Doubles OUT (Alongside Zeraora).

I'm so glad that they've moved on from having the 100 base stat across the board mythicals. It gets repetitive real fast, yet we got one each generation for five generations straight. We even got 2 in gen 4.

Technically Sword/Shield VGC Series 13 allowed mythicals. It spanned from Sep - Oct 2022, after Worlds and before SV released. Only cart ladder, no big in person events, but I think it counts to some degree. (Plus I think GF will do it again)
