Amazing. The march starting at 4:18 Is a Civil War era US march, The Washington Greys. I played it in my town band in concerts. I loved to play it, but in concert we played it a bit faster, and that made the trumpet par a bit awkward.in spots. It makes more sense at this speed.

Late Father In Law was a Royal Marines Commando. He always said before any parade the Troop Sgt Major used to say "Right lads Bags of Swank! And any man out of step is a dead man!!!" ok, I have a question....... I served in the Royal Navy, and while there are thousands of marines I would trust my life to, there are a few I wouldn't trust my bar fridge with. My question is, do the keys to the city extend to all Marines? Because if they do, there are a few pubs I won't be visiting... In all seriousness, I would put the British military in any theater and have complete confidence, my congratulations go to the people of Glasgow on this honour.

The two Marines in cammies walking along either side of the band, both seem to have a limp. Would that be why they were there instead of marching.

+Bob Sit Just speculation on my part. When I said 'we' I should have clarified that I was referring to oboists and bassoonists in general. I'm not in the UK so I don't know how HM RMB handles this situation. Personally, I hated marching band so I found ways to skate out of marching activities and when I got to university level I avoided schools that forced marching band on music majors.

+Rusty White Back in the day when infantry battalions would deploy to India and and Africa, the officers would go hunting for rare game. The drummers would use these durable skins to protect their uniforms from rubbing against the drums, and slowly over time it evolved into a piece of ceremonial kit.
@supernutkin51226 жыл бұрын
In addition, many British Regiments, when in Africa many years ago, would appoint local Black guys as drummers and they would wear their traditional uniforms which consisted of tiger, lion and cheetah skins. SuperNutkin
