@dylanschad72077 жыл бұрын
The thing about screaming/growling is that the muscles you use to do it are not the same as when you're singing cleanly. It's always shocking the first time you hear a woman singing all high pitched and clean and suddenly she starts growling, because of that dramatic shift in pitch and tone, but it is still most definitely her voice and she's not the only lady who can do it. One of the most respected Metal Screaming teachers out there is Melissa Cross. Also bands like Arch Enemy and The Agonist have incredible female vocalists!
@InquisitorHades7 жыл бұрын
saw Arch Enemy live when Angela was still their vocalist and damn. it was great.
@dylanschad72077 жыл бұрын
ImberNoctis That's partly correct but the pitch of the scream is also determined by the shape of the lips. For example, a tight "O" shape will give you a very low scream while a wide open mouth will be higher pitched.
@dylanschad72077 жыл бұрын
Although you should bare in mind that I'm no expert. I used to do screaming in a band but I always just did it instinctively, so I never looked too deep into the physiology of it. Anything I say about it is just stuff I've heard from other screamers.
@dylanschad72077 жыл бұрын
ImberNoctis True, but I think that's true of singing in general as well as screaming. Getting your breathing right is one of the most important things any singer, regardless of genre, can learn to do if they want to project properly. If you can hold your note properly and enunciate clearly that's half the battle. (Bro tip: It's also why I recommend Devin Townsend and Randy Blythe to anyone who is interested in learning to scream.)

The look on your faces at 03:55 made my whole week! LMAO!! I choose those songs specifically for you two, based on your current tastes. Lyrics will amaze you. And they're both definitely unlike anything you've heard so far. Ps:LMFAO at the movie scene!! There is a "device" to change your voice like that and it's called your false vocal cords. Every human has those and they can be used to produce that growling voice. That's how metal vocalists do it and gender does not affect to the ability to produce that sound (well you could argue that males can generally produce even lower resonance, but still the mechanics are the same). Check out for example Jinjer - Sit, Stay, Roll over, and you'll hear her really showcase her metal vocals! Also again, please check out Unleash the archers - Awakening, or Cleanse the bloodlines :)

Jinjer is progressive/metalcore/groove/melodic death metal mix. They use alot of genres throughout all their albums, and have alot of variety which is why I love them so much. Also, yes, this song is about depression. Tati had depression when recording the album in the studio. #FreeThinker

And, there's a right way and wrong way to sing that way - if you can't sing to begin with, you're going to hurt yourself trying over time; trying to growl if you don't already know how to sing correctly will REALLY hurt. Some of the more famous original growlers were self-taught, and wound up tearing up their voices until they learned how to sing (for example, Tom Fischer of Celtic Frost, or Paul Di'Anno the original vocalist for Iron Maiden, or the vocalists from Killswitch Engage or Cradle of Filth). One of the more well-known voice coaches for the heavy metal growl is a woman (Melissa Cross) - it may not seem like it from a distance, but there is a great deal of skill and art in the heavy metal screams and growls!
@fyodorkaramazov21367 жыл бұрын

@DonteKeys7 жыл бұрын
They have some nu-metal sounding moments instrumentally, but not really in this song. I do think some of their vocal melodies are definitely influenced by some mid-late 90's alt-rock and nu-metal though. The pre-chorus on this track straight up sounds like Incubus.

And I'm also a singer and screamer and women can do low vocals like that because screaming properly doesn't have to use the normal vocal chords but uses false chords, which are above the normal vocal chords. So yes, that is her voice. No effects. That is her actual voice.
@calebbliss86267 жыл бұрын
Also going back to when you talked about how metal/singers probably have hoarse voices after screaming, the truth is if they have proper technique they shouldn't. When screaming properly the false vocal chords actually vibrate without touching, so they don't cause any damage when done properly. I can scream for over an hour without any problems talking or singing as long as I warm up properly. And if someone says this isn't metal they're just too close minded because it definitely is. Keep being awesome y'all.
