Tatiana Shmailyuk, lead singer of the Ukrainian progressive-metal band Jinjer, wrote this scathing number about religious hypocrites after a good friend - a fellow musician and Pisces - accused her of being immoral. The so-called friend took offense when Shmailyuk posed in lingerie on Instagram to promote a woman's small business. After receiving some perverted comments, the singer removed the post but, little did she know, the damage was done

Great fun song that not only showcases Tati's vocal range but is also musically awesome with time changes and all sorts of other Jinjer things! In Ukraine most people are Orthodox, but that's not much different than Catholic when it comes to how schools are run. But the song is not specifically about religion, rather, it's about "authority" or people in authority in general. Our world is full of people who think they know best and aren't hesitant to tell others how to live their lives when it's really none of their own business. And how often are those people hypocrites because they're often doing the exact things they're condemning others for doing. Tati had a friend turn on her many years ago for appearing in a magazine to help another friend. She was shamed by her friend for that. So the song uses the structure of rigid religious schooling to frame out the overall lesson to question authority and use your own brain. Another beautifully poetic and deeply personal song by Tati. And I have to add how great Tati's stage presence is in this and every Jinjer performance, just AMAZING! Don't forget to listen to "Call Me A Symbol" 💛💙 (You should read the lyrics to this one before you do the reaction). Another great reaction, I enjoy how you let the visceral effect of the performance show, it's not just a song, it's and experience.

4 albums, no "Average" songs. I've never experienced that with a band. It's not exclusively about Catholic School, it's about how we receive information in general. She wrote this as someone in her friends tried to shame her online about not being as faithful to their religion. She points out that the person trying to shame her didn't know what she was talking about, and the song is a warning about who you listen to and how you receive information in general. She did go to a Catholic Schools as well.

Hello. Tatiana has got a stunning voice. And it's even more "soul catching" live :) . If you want to see from where they come (and react to a song near nobody reacted to), you can check "Destroy, live beastiarium". 12 years ago. The drummer is not the same and they had a second guitarist. The song was created before Tati join the band. Before her there was a guy. And he was not able to do that song live because of the multiple instant switches. Can "baby Tati" do it? :) . (sry if my English is not perfect, not my native tongue)

@@VocalCitizen well, you'll get alot of suggestions for an oldschool Jinjer tracks. They were different and recognizable at the same time. If you want to get it earlier to have an option to jump from old to new and back then I can suggest you few the earliest tracks from "baby Jinjer" era: - Exposed As A Liar (the very 1st Jinjer's OMV) - Scissors (the 2nd OMV) + other dope tracks from "Inhale Don't Breath" album (Destroy, Walz etc) Their next album Cloud Factory is full of bangers, almost any song from this album would be a great choice to react to. Most popular are: - Cloud Factory (OMV or Live in Kiev) - Outlander (official live or more popular "live" with studio sound). - Who's Gonna Be The One (live at Atlas) - No Hoard Of Value (lyrics video) BTW while Pisces is the most popular video at Napalm Records channel overall, "Who's Gonna Be The One" is the most popular live video at that channel.

The theme of the song is definitely promoting the questioning of authority, and there are definitely a lot of references that evoke Catholic school or dogma. The song isn't about religion or Christianity; it's just about "authority figures" and people that think their opinions are factual over that of others, etc.
@coder4liberty6 ай бұрын
Basically what she did here is take what most people have heard about Catholic institutions and applied it to life in general. More specifically don't let people tell you things and believe them automatically because you could be listening to fools. This sprung from a negative experience she had with a former friend on social media before she gave up doing social media save for Instagram. I think you're right. If you made a big chart of all the kinds of music you could think of, stood back and threw a dart at the chart whatever you hit with the dart she could probably sing convincingly. There are two songs off the King of Everything album where she took lines from every other song on the album (including Pisces) to make new lyrics. One song is at the beginning of the album and the other is at the end. Both are completely different styles but it's amazing that a metal band is playing them. Beggars Dance and Prologue are both 2 1/2 minutes long. They are on KZbin but just the audio with the album cover for a video. Call me a Symbol 🖤🖤 is about what Tati thinks it would be like to be a pop diva. Which she would like to be for one day she says just to experience it.

so, i do believe she did go to parochial school (i would _assume_ it to be Eastern Orthodox as opposed to Catholic , because Ukraine ; but tomato tomato). she also studied for a time to be a teacher, until she figured out she hated the idea of teaching. 🤣 BUT, that only serves as the metaphor for the song , the sanctimoniousness of religious hypocrites , after a (now former) friend of hers belittled her for being "immoral".
@glebivanov63236 ай бұрын
I'm pretty sure Tatiana's school was just a common municipal school. Eastern Ukraine is not very religious region. Most people consider themselves as an Orthodox christians, they visit local church sometimes and they know and perform some basic ceremonial stuff but that's it. Most people definitely wouldn't come to church every week, rather at Easter and Christmas days only. Parochial schools are very rare.
