I think Hanzo was actually a great leader. He was almost the only one putting up a fight against three of the Five Great Nations who they kept waging wars in their Land. So Hanzo was standing up for his people and trying to defend it. It was either making peace (but that seemed impossible) or fighting back to defend their land because otherwise other nations kept on running over their land and village. Hanzo was also one who beat many strong people so he might’ve actually changed the Hidden Rain Village for the better. If it wasn’t for ‘you know who’ to interfere with ‘you know who’.

Girei is magnificent. Pain's ideology is magnificent. Pain's power is magnificent. Everything about Pain is truly magnificent. Prepare yourself. The next dozens of episodes will all be just your audience constantly gushing about Pain. As for these two episodes, this is just set up, and very little is revealed relative to the rest of the arc. Still, even from what little we've seen, you can already tell the Rain Orphans suffered a great tragedy involving the death of Yahiko that radicalized them. I always feel really bad about Jiraiya in this arc. Here, he's confronted with yet another of his failures. He's taught so many students and placed his hopes on them due to the prophecy, but all he's seen previously were their early deaths. Now, he's haunted even further by the fact that some of his students didn't die but became even worse than he could have imagined. It's truly got to sting.
