my biggest gripe of this route is how those who slither in the dark took over the empire, turned edelgard into a puppet w no autonomy etc, it just felt like a super convenient way to make the empire seem entirely evil to take down butttt i loved the blue lions development, esp dimitri

The Empire was always evil tho. Or at least, complicit in everything the Agarthans did, in the main game. So it's not unusual here, when the Empire was the villainous nation declaring war. Even in this game, it's Edelgard's Empire that starts the war.

I guess Dimitri is just mentaly ill. The ghosts he see are just his guilty, frustration, sadness and anger manifesting as an alucination. If they were real ghosts they could tell him something usefull or talk about something he doesn't even know. Another thing is he just see ghosts from people who are close to him, if he could see so many ghosts why just not any ghost? When Byleth se ghost Dimitri in 3 houses he wasn't even that close to her/him(cuz they are BE teacher not BL) and Byleth never saw time skip Dimitri, plus ghost Dimitri wasn't even as crazy about revenge as ling Dimitri. I really doubt Lambert would just keep talking about avenge him to his son rather than try teaching him about things he need to learn or talk about dangerous people are around him.

I love that in both the three hopes videos so far, you’ve always recruited Byleth, and who can blame you? You’d have to be insane to go out of your way to kill them and Jeralt. This is why I’m glad there are videos showing what happens when you do go that route because I won’t ever be taking it:

I wouldn't go as far as to say insane, some people either don't thoroughly finish each area or don't play with online guides, simple as that. This route in particular is pretty tricky to get Byleth and Jeralt zigzagging the map and keeping your allies out of sight if you don't know each step to recruit them.

Everyone should kill Jeralt once on every route, because there's a cutscene that plays on every route when Jeralt dies - and Byleth does something else afterwards.

I think it's because the game doesn't explicitly tell you the outcome if you do which mission on the final Byleth chapter. You more or less have to play a guessing game, I only needed a walkthrough for those chapters since I haven't recruited byleth before in all the routes.

I don't like this route because of what it did to Edelgard and turning a morally grey story into a black and white one by having TWSITD hijack the war. I think it was a really stupid decision for the writers. However, I do still like how it handled other characters and I did like Dimitri a bit more after this in comparison to 3H which made me feel immense bitterness toward him. They handled his characterization really well. So I appreciate the characters even though the story is one I cannot bring myself to like. If others like this route and think it's the best, that's fine as you're entitled to your opinion. I, however, simply cannot see this route's story as good in any way and think it's the worst one.

I could argue I love this route cause it actually made me care for her and worry for her safety. I... never liked her character. She was always a puppet for Those Who Slither... It's just only when Byleth sides with her did she manage to break free from them, and in this story Shez. She still desires to conquer the entire continent and impose what she views is a better system then the one governed by the other nations... desires to overthrow the church for those very same reasons... Even if it served to create a world she envisioned as better, it doesn't change the fact she would have to impose countless evils on others to achieve it. That being said she was willing to go through with it knowing all that... while it doesn't make her an evil person, doesn't change the fact that she was willing to commit evil for a just cause. The only thing this route did was materialize the puppet strings for all to see and reveal the puppet master. The TRUE monsters that experimented on her, and made her believe lies that it was the Church the whole time. And while I did not like her as a character... having this happen to her actually made me feel genuine worry and fear for her safety.

She fights because she cannot accept the current world and will burn it down even if it means being hated for it. But what AG did was take everything that makes Edelgard...well, Edelgard. I mean, if it made you worry for her, that's fine. But what this story did is subject Edelgard to a fate worse than death.

However everything about what you said also means someone like me who does not care for people like that will never side with her. That does not mean I hate her. Admittedly she was always to play the role of antagonist in a story with much bigger antagonist's... and since she originally sought to use the bigger antagonist in a gamble, it makes sense she'd lose like she did in 3 Hopes Azure Gleam. Simply put as the most un-redeemable character out of the 3 in a game that requires all 3 to live... what happened to her needed to happen or the same scene at the end of the Blue Lions path would just repeat itself.

Now Edelgard is mind controlled and the evil people are controlling the Empire and countless villages are destroyed as the war spirals out of control. Like, was it really that hard for Dimitri's story to function without having someone lose all agency? Maybe the writers felt that there was simply no way that Dimitri could win the war if something like SB and GW happened where the Empire and Alliance team up, but feel that there's no normal reason for Claude to ever team up with Dimitri and Rhea. So have the war get hijacked by TWSITD so that the Empire is now pure evil and Claude will have no option but Dimitri's side.

I kinda see where your going with that but allow me to introduce the reality. The War between Empire and Kingdom was originally a distraction for a war between Those who Slither and the remaining members of a race that gave humanity the power to fight them. Hate her all you want, Rhea was never a true antagonist. She was a woman on the edge still mourning for the loss of her mother and her mother's crest... to finally have a host only for the host to backstab her in the Black Eagles route. Obvious... questionable experiments aside Byleth was slated for death. They only live through the Crest of Sothis which now acts as their heart... At the end of each route.... Eddie's aside you come across a broken woman lamenting her mistakes and going so far feeling unfit to lead that she passes on the title of Arch Bishop straight to Byleth. Similar to Eddie, Rhea was never truly evil. To understand a bit better... Rhea and her kin are the enemies of the Agarthans. With this in mind... all the wars were was a way to get rid of the only thing keeping those Who Slither from being able to come into the light... Sothis's people. Namely Rhea. Once Rhea's gone... well... Let's just say at the end of Golden Wildfire... that dour cliffhanger after murdering a woman and her followers... when Claude tried for peace... probably... didn't happen. The Peace that is. It's a weird conundrum. Circling around to what they did to Eddie in Azure Gleam... Eddie was about to extinguish Dimitri's whole reason for his crusade against her. She even exposed Thalos as the true killer before he showed up to silence her. This would have taken both the Kingdom AND the Empire's focus straight to him and he wasn't having that. So he activated Eddie and took control of her. What the Three Kingdoms were engaging in was a Morally grey war with the truth fueling it from the shadows being one of true darkness. In short the wars will never truly end as long as the Agarthans are there to puppeteer them.

I think part 1 is a lot stronger than part 2 but worst ending? Nah not even close it’s easily the best of the three.

@@pearsemolloy9656 Not only is it the best out of the 3 (4), but it's the only one that makes sense. In Wildfire, the war rages on, proving that Claude was a moron to trust Edelgard and believe the war would end after murdering Rhea. In Blaze, Claude will betray Edelgard if Jeralt is dead and Byleth helps Claude to attack the Empire. Claude dies and the war rages on. If you recruit Jeralt instead, then Claude doesn't betray Edelgard and he and Empire destroy the innocent Kingdom even tho Claude said multiple times he doesn't wanna unite Fodlan at all. So Claude is still a moron and an awful person like Edelgard.

The empire ends with a lot of inocent people death by those who slider in the dark, the situation of Edelgard, and Claude is obviously not gonna stand the church returning, this is only good for the kingdom, in scarlet blaze (recruiting Byleth) she wants to change the kingdom and after that she will let Claude to accomplish his ambition to open Fodlan to outsiders and in Golden Wildfire Edelgard main goal was to get rid of the church so it’s a win for her. The blue lion route is only the best ending for this who like the blue lion members.
