The issue is not just that, but if you actually listened to Dray's previous podcasts, he was almost disrespecting KD by comparing/weighing the 2 chips they had won with him than if they had won the chip in 2016. He flip-flops depending on which narrative he wants to push. And now that they won another chip and ppl are bashing KD almost everywhere, he's now trying to inflate KD's contributions to the team but at the same time putting Steph down. Knowing how extremely competitive Steph and Klay were, aside from the team and organization as a whole have a lot of pride, I doubt anyone would agree with him, in earnest, that they wouldn't be able to win another one, considering that they were almost one Draymond suspension away from winning that series. And what followed after were just unfortunate series of events- Bogut, Steph, and Iggy injuries (ppl forget that Iggy played through a back injury and was often taken out during games); bad reffing- taking out Steph in the 1st quarter of game 6 with the softest fouls ever in a finals, and even that Dray suspension was suspect as no calls were actually made during the play, only hours after the game after Bron lobbied for his suspension was he magically given a flagrant thus the suspension. tldr: the officials including the commissioner, blatantly rigged the outcome in favor of the Cavs, and the piling injuries just made it worse. The "new media" is not that much different with the old, just different narratives/agenda the players want to push with their own bias. Dray said alot of sh-* in his podcast that the inconsistencies in his statements are now starting to unravel and catch up to him to the point where he's almost contradicting himself.

Wish he'd joined the Warriors and won a chip. He really ended his career abruptly. Think he easily could have played 3 years more with his shooting. Just the season before his last one, shot 45% on almost 7 threes a game and scored 15ppg in 26 minutes. That's about as good as a role player can get.

The way Dray broke down the evolution of Steph was key. When you go back and watch highlights from 2014-2016, you can see a significant difference in terms of how much bigger and stronger he is now compared to then. Teams that played physical could wear him down in a 7 game series b/c he was primarily finesse back then even as a finisher, which is essentially what Cleveland did and would've cont. doing in 2017. Bringing in KD made it impossible to beat them b/c the one thing that GSW was missing was when teams figured out a way to throw off their offensive timing and run them off their spots, they couldn't score consistently enough in a half court/iso setting. The current version of Steph isn't revolutionizing the game like he did in the back to back mvp years but he's a more dangerous player b/c he's a more complete and versatile scorer.
@18brandon922 жыл бұрын
He’s still just as revolutionary, but the league has players that have little flashes of Steph, including Poole, Tray Young, Lillard, etc. so it seems more “normal”. The league has already been changed by him, and he still came out on top…. without Durant, without a healthy Klay….. because of the reasons you stated. He’s stronger, more durable.
@nikhildevarakonda92952 жыл бұрын
@@18brandon92 I’m just saying from the standpoint of those mvp seasons are often considered his most special b/c he introduced a style that has never been seen before. Today, he has added more conventional elements to his game that have made him even more effective.
@18brandon922 жыл бұрын
@@nikhildevarakonda9295 I understand what you’re saying but there is nothing conventional about what he did to Boston. He made ridiculous shots that didn’t go down in 2016. His physique stronger and more durable, so he can’t get roughed up like he did in the 2016 Finals. Perhaps he mastered his floaters and footwork around the rim and midrange, but he was making And 1’s all day this year, which I don’t remember seeing in the 2016 playoffs. I remember him being roughed up and burnt out.
@nikhildevarakonda92952 жыл бұрын
@@18brandon92 Right, but comparatively speaking, there is a difference in the level of revolutionizing that happened in 2016 to what is happening now. The style of play was so unconventional that the whole league almost changed overnight where traditional bigs, even all star caliber ones(I.e. Roy Hibbert) became unplayable. Teams were forced to adapt to a faster paced, spacing style just to play the numbers games. The 3pt attempts by teams in the following seasons increased exponentially. So, while Steph is playing an incredibly high level(even higher than 2016 as we both stated) he’s doing more conventional things albeit at an unconventionally high level. As a result, we are not going to see that extreme of a shift in play style across the league next season like we did in the immediate aftermath of his mvp years.

I was there yesterday and it was a great show. The one thing I’d add in regards to Dray proclaiming that JJ was the start of the new media, is JJ’s ability to be transparent about multiple eras of basketball. A famous quote from The Wire “the thing about the old days, they the old days”. Often in society previous generations love to be bias about their time and refuse to be open minded to change. This was brought up on the show but JJ is probably one of the first to have the platform to be brutally honest about all eras of basketball. And to be fair Gilbert Arenas has been vocal about that too but doesn’t say it in a way that’s digestible to specific platforms lol but shoutout to JJ he truly has been a gem in the podcast/basketball media space.
@IknowMoreThanYou2 жыл бұрын
Gilbert Arenas isn't credible. And being disrespectful about the eras before doesn't add points. Besides his originally weak Giannis take, he's exceptionally on point but he's not the first of "new media" nor is Draymond

I agree I’ve always found it weird that people want to cling to these players from 40-60 years ago as the best thing the NBA has ever produced. Like you can respect them and still think the players that have come later on are better
@Cere8812 жыл бұрын
Facts, it goes even beyond basketball in regards to the past. Our mind/body wants to be calm/happy and we are built to have pleasant memories in state of recollection. I mean when you don't it's called trauma which can cause stress. So thinking about the things in the past objectively is a hella flawed in most situations. Phrases like make america great again...or back in my day people weren't this bad etc etc bring ppl comfort.

In the 2022 finals, Steph was not "given" the FMVP.... he took it, he earned it.... Wiggins was the second best player in these finals and he was 50% of Steph, at best.
@yahiaali40592 жыл бұрын
Wiggins was a good robin he’s actually my mind better than klay where you can just give him the ball and make something out of nothing where klay needs set plays out of timeouts and off ball screens to get his shot off

I love this podcast as a whole and this episode. Draymond touched on Steph being ridiculed. And I would say this in comments on videos and people would respond, "what are you talking about, no one talks about Steph."...now that he won and said, "what are they gonna say now!" ...now do you believe me? You didn't have to go far to hear the Steph curry hate. I would say for every 1 Steph curry fan, there are 4 Steph haters that person knows. I know from experience cause I just reunited with some old friends and ended up in a bball discussion war trying to defend him...and I didn't even bring basketball up lmao. It exists people.

The issue I have is people act like if the Warriors don’t sign KD they still aren’t contenders. They also act like GS didn’t go 7 games with Houston because of KD iso’ing so much. They berate Steph for KD’s FMVPs but yet will mock KD’s 2 rings. Seems like Warriors lose in every hypothetical.
