As a 36 year on and off vegan, I never believed this. But just turning 59 and extremely insulin resistant, I just started eating animal protein at 3 meals/day with legumes (bean protocol) and veg, plus some healthy fats with omega 3 nuts, and along with only (2) 15 min super slow weight training sessions/week and (2) HIIT cardio sessions with kettlebell swings/week, muscle is growing really quickly and fat, especially from my gut, is shrinking daily. Along with this I'm taking creatine daily. Not only am I getting stronger by the day my gut is healing really fast and my brain feels amazing-really great mood all the time. Next is to quit caffeine, for me it really affects sleep and hot flashes. I'm amazed at the power of animal protein. For me plant sources just didn't cut it. Blessings!

Thank you so much for this valuable information. I'm 69 years and still kicking. Have managed to burn off 30 lbs of unnecessary body weight dince late January. At under 5' and now holding 97-98. My partner believes that my rotational nutrition which has 100 grams protein is too high. The carbs and fats change daily. I record my food choices daily as well as my activities and exercise. My world has changed so much for the better.

I’ve heard about “prioritizing” protein for years, but I’ve never had it explained like this! Thank you!!! Throughout my 40s, my body hasn’t responded to my usual diet/fitness routine, and I’m getting weaker/untoned. I’ve been increasing my protein and lifting weights the past few weeks and lost 6 lbs, but most exciting, I feel stronger! I can’t tell you how much I appreciate your advice & inspiration! I feel so much much hope and motivation! 😊❤😊

I'm going to buy your book! I am 72 and losing weight and exercising. When I tried to find out what I should be getting for macronutrients, all I get is to talk to my doctor. I think it is because of my age.

Going all carnivore literally saved my life. I was offered Ozempic by three of my doctors, but reading the "side effects" made me decide against this toxic substance. Now I'm not only losing body fat, but also reversing my several autoimmune diseases. I already got rid of *all* my stomach and gut problems and I even stopped snoring. 😁 I dumped all my medications except for my pain medication, which I cut down by a third. I eat 2 meals a day and do intermittent fasting. I start my day with beef broth. Then I have my 2 cups of black coffee with a huge chunk of coconut oil. I consider my morning broth as my first meal. I am filled up for hours and very active as well. After about 6 hours, I eat my main meal, which is a steak or beef hamburgers or meat balls together with 4 chicken eggs. No more starving, but body fat loss and muscle gain, together with reversing the autoimmune diseases, is the most wonderful chance in my life. Vegetables made me very, very, very sick! Vegetables also made me suffer sooo much pain. Vegetables almost killed me. I turned 60 recently and after 40 years of plant based diet, I finally found the right diet for me. 😊

Your protein message is very important to consider, especially as we age. Regarding plant protein such as lentils, the plant-based doctors are not concerned about the carbohydrate content because of the high fibre in beans and legumes - it’s net carbs that’s important. Any comments?

If your doctor says it's OK weight training is the way to go. Scale weight might go up because muscle weighs more than fat but you'll be smaller. Listen to Mind Pump they talk about stuff like this. I hope this helps ❤

If i have high (total 212) cholesterol at 48, should I take this much protein? Roughly 130g. I want to start doing your loaded smoothie but feel conflicted. I was recommended a keto diet which is minimal animal protein, low carb and high fat. Need some guidance here or best practices. Thanks!
@Jenekks Жыл бұрын
I have hereditary high cholesterol and have learned this from a personal trainer who has been in the industry over 40 years: you don't need more protein. Too much animal protein is dangerous, and so is isolated vegetable protein. The "guidelines" are all a myth created by protein supplement companies. Too much protein is collected in the liver and arteries and contributes to heart disease. It is super hard on the kidneys. I tested the exact same amount of protein in my blood before and after I supplemented. It didn't make a difference. Weight resistance will build you up. I also lost over 20 lbs in 3 months, eating whole food plant based. I actually lowered my protein intake (I was supplementing with plant isolates beforehand), and I significantly lowered my fat. No oils or nuts, and whole plant foods in the Starch Solution Diet. I have a ton more energy and my joint pain has decreased eating this way as well.

Agree the amount of legumes nuts seeds is too high for protein amount needed. I still eat for gut microbiome benefit and good fats but in small portions. Animal protein is my main ingredient for eating adequate protein.

@blairseibert1778 Жыл бұрын
I appreciate your advice but would like to warn people that too much protein is hard on the kidneys. I went through a period where I consumed too much protein and my doctor expressed real concern. Older women need about 45g of protein a day. My experience is that muscle is built by exercising along with a healthy diet which includes lot of plants (fiber), 40g of protein and small amounts of healthy fat. When we exercise we need to eat more calories but they shouldn't be protein focused.
@Sunlightsam24 Жыл бұрын
From all the research I’ve done, 45 is way too low. If you listened to this video, she’s saying that’s the bare minimum.
@dkayser1500 Жыл бұрын
As a 61 yo woman I consume 10 times that much protein, about 450 grams per day, every day. I eat what is considered to be a high fat, moderate protein, zero carb diet. That includes zero fiber, which is NOT a micronutrient the body needs, and is actually horrible for your guts. I'm thriving, no medical issues, and no medications. Not saying your Dr. is ignorant, but they most assuredly have not kept up with current studies.

45 seems low I’d find a new doc 😂

My aging mil is an Indian vegetarian whose main foods are wheat, rice, potatoes, milk, bread, and cauliflower, okra, eggplant. I see her getting weaker and more skinny- fat by the day. She criticizes me for eating the “same foods everyday “, when all I do is eat like you suggest, build my meals around lean animal protein. Lol

As you get older, you can progressively lose muscle mass, strength, and function-a condition called sarcopenia. Your muscles can also become less sensitive to the effects of protein and exercise (known as anabolic resistance). This makes building and maintaining muscle mass more difficult. Research shows that older adults may require higher amounts of protein to maintain muscle mass and function. Getting optimal protein intake in your 50s, 60s, 70s, and beyond can improve physical function, prevent sarcopenia and muscle loss, support strong bones and muscle, help you manage hunger, and help you find your ideal body composition. You can read more about how much protein you should eat in a day here - jjvirgin.com/how-much-protein/ We hope that helps! - Team JJ

I'm having problems with meat. I don't practice veganism but since I had C*vid I am not able to eat meat. The texture, the taste I almost throw up. I'm 40 years old and I have an autoimmune disorder. I have recently gone gluten free and I'm back to my weight before I started having children. I also fast 18 hours a day. Protein is almost non-existent and I need help. Husband wants me to drink protein shakes but I've always heard that's hard on your kidneys and I can't afford that. Any suggestions sincerely would be great.

Uh, I thought excess protein was stored as fat... also, I understood that your body can't deal with more than ~40 grams of protein at a given meal. So how am I going to get 200 grams of protein per my body weight?
