You've presented an eye opening drill for those who believe that being good in martial sports, or forms automatically translates to self defense. It would have been nice for non Wing Chun students to also see the actual footwork. If a parallel drill was also demonstrated that replaced the clutter with chalk lines on the floor and the center of the camera shots were the thighs of the participants (such filming could cut off heads), we could see the timing of the shifting, the weight distribution and other qualities.

Nice! You can also uses this in drills with multiple opponents. Using them as shields.

Yesterday, really past some hours, I was training a stuff about this drill. I just did it focusing in using the impact (or touch) of the back feet in the final stance, past fleeting dodging moment, to counterattack. Obviously it will depend on several aspects and circumstances. I´ve elected distance (in japanese it is called "ma ai" and is a key factor in choosing techniques or weapons, just to keep things in a context) as the one I was focusing on, yesterday. So, as a small framed guy, and expecting the worse (that is more probable, for what I´ve seen in my life) of a "big truck" skilled (they know what they do) attacker, decided on counterattacking in knees and exposed ribs. Later would come fast wing chun sequences, like kwan sau followed by hand attacks. Pushing is also great in overbalancing and it is seen in Siu Lim Tau too (with one hand in this case). Great video, sir. Keep going. Regards from Brazil.

9:19 I really liked the video. I watched all of it. The only thing I might add or include would be. When she parries and steps aside. Get your two strikes in towards the neck n chin. Don’t grab especially on a bigger opponent. If you’re a woman look to use LENGTH and stay DETACHED. Injure his soft tissues. It’s detail work.

Wonder whether it is not best to maintain stickiness after dodging charging assault and taking the new centerline. A shove, if not effective, as you said, likely will be followed by attacker's strike. Without stickiness, there would be a reset of the attack; with stickiness, and the new centerline, a few punches, 2 arms to one, and ideal inside position for tan da or other strike/block options, we might be successful. Please advise😀. Important footwork discussions. It wins racket sports too! Thanks!

@@magunda100 that's true about sticking to someone. If you put a triangle on the floor w/ the base facing your opponent, & you move forward on the line, you're advancing & angling off the line of attack. If you use a tan sao, pak sao, against their right arm you use that @ an angle also towards their left shoulder or left side of their torso, (cutting the line) Being adhesive so they couldn't re attack & they couldn't attack w/ their left arm because when you angled off & moved forward, you flanked them

This is the reason why I love practicing Wing Chun: it looks at the factors that not every fighting system considers.
@JKDandWingChun3 жыл бұрын
Amen to that. It’s a tremendous risk not to take into consideration and train for the variables likely to be present in a life-or-death situation. Thanks for watching.

Does it matter which foot is facing foward after you move? Doesn't having that front leg closer to the opponent a risk for a takedown?

Hi Sifu,another usefull clip,but i´m asking myself(also training WC,JKD and kali/escrima for several years):Which footwork is the best on the street ?! In WC you would do what this nice young lady was doing-more defencive/counter-attacking,right?! And in JKD you would go forward,looking for the nearest target to counter-attack ,right? By the way,I´m from Berlin/Germany,you´re far away,maybe one day (after covid)I travel to your place,many years ago I was in the USA(in the north)! We still have a lock-down here,I can only use my woodden dummy- Good luck for you guys over there !!!

Over ten years ago while walking on a sidewalk, a puppy less than twenty feet from me three steps up turned and looked at me and barked once. It then ran down the steps towards me and I was thinking I may not be able to out run it, I'll just wait. When it lunged, I side stepped and it was all over. I wondered if its fall was like someone pulling a chair out from someone when s/he tries to sit down.

Line the streets with ropes put time bells on the traffic lights, make street walkers carry round number placards and defund the police and replace them with refs. Then an attack on "da streetz" would be a lot more like competition! OK I admit it ...maybe I do live in a padded room and need to up my meds.
