Cool! I always bar the A chord but always do it with my middle finger. This is a snap doing it with the ring finger and switching between the A and E. Thanks 🙂

I’v been using the bar A chord for years but I use my middle finger instead of my ring finger and it also clears the high E string as well.

By coincidence that is the way I used to play barred chords as I have short stubby fingers, now I use system used by many and bar top two with first finger and omit low E string, se my YT with Johnny Cash Tribute

Is it fair to say Buddy Holly’s strumming pattern inspired funk? It was quite fast paced for the ‘50s.

Buddy Holly was copying Bo Diddley's "shave and a haircut" rhythm strum. I'd say Bo Diddley had a bigger impact on funk than Buddy Holly did.

I know this is old, but I had to give a listen after your bold claim. Yo each their own, but I thought the Dead's version was hot garbage. The Stones did a cool cover, but I'll take the original.
