JLB Cheetah - How To Replace Front Diff & Driver Set Pinion Gear!!!!

Whats going on guys! Today im replacing the Front Diff and Driver set Pinion Gear on my JLB Cheetah. This is the 3rd time im replacing this front Diff and the job took about 30 mins from start to finish. Slowly but surely I'm getting the mind set that... you buy cheap, you buy twice! This is my feeling for the Cheetah. I've gone through 4 front driver cups, two front diff housings and countless bearings... in two months. It's a shame and I'm getting frustrated. Don't know how to make it more robust, considering I'm not bashing it at all. Yesterday, I've installed a new front driver cup with new bearings and pinion gear.. today...all done.. brocken. The Cheetah is killing the fun out of this hobby.

Dang... I don’t know what to say. I’ve had my gen1 Cheetah for years now and still good so far. Have you try metal diff housing? I herd they don’t flex under a lot of pressure from the torque. I’ll be upgrading that soon and see how it goes.

@@ItsRCTeng Unfortunately I'm not able to find any metal diff housing. My purchase option is aliexpress and they don't have any in stock. The long list of already replaced parts is getting bigger with every use.

Do the car jump into reverse when you brake hard while still moving forward causing the gears to grind on each other. Or, when your moving backwards and punch the trigger fast to get it up into a wheelie. That usually strip the gears even faster. I take apart my diff after a few runs to see how the gears are holding up and both my trucks diff and input gears are still good and haven’t round off yet. You can try putting a tiny washer between the bearings in the input gear to keep it more sturdy. The washer I use is from the old diff internal gears. So far, it’s been working and keeping a tight fit on the input pinion gear.

@@florianrc919 I get my parts from AliExpress or bangood.com... depending on prices. And I looked EVERYWHERE for a metal gear box cover, they had them on AliExpress, but were out of stock! So I got 2 plastic one's...as the screws snapped the plastic gear box. I've cabled it all the the metal frame work now...so far all good.

Thank you so much for your Cheetah videos. Hugely helpful. What steps are necessary to remove the 'cup' EA1071 from the right/passenger side of the rear diff? Also, after opening the diff what's required as far as fluid goes to refill?

There’s a small pin holding in the cup inside of the diff. For fluid, I use 50wt.

I've only got 2wd on my 4wd cheetah...I took it out today and had to power in the front two. After watching this I think I might know why now lol. I actually order both of them parts a week after getting this car...I've had it for about 3 months now, so might be time to check the gears.

Take the front diff and put it in the back and remove the center drive shaft so the slipper clutch will only run the back RWD and it still fast and fun. 👍

I will be putting in a new front drive shaft cup in my 11101 today. It's worn badly, just like yours. Thanks for the 'how to' video. 👍 P.S. Got a new speed record last weekend. *88 km/h* Totally stock 120 amp 11101.

Is there a pin or screw that fits into the holes at 3.33 in the video please? My front wheels on my Cheetah won't run any more and think I have the same problem as yourself. Part of my chassis has sheared off slightly underneath where holes are at 3.33 in the video. Any ideas why it has done this? Thanks in advance

Hi mate. How did you remove the front bumper? I seems te have a problem in removing some screws as the bumper is still there.

There 5 screws on the bottom. Remove the middle screw of the 5 screws. That’s the only screw holding in the bumper to the chasssis. If that don’t work. Take off all 5 screws and the whole front assembly will come off the chassis as one unit.

Thanks mate! The spider gear should comes with shims. My old diff has shims in it also. Yes put shims so it helps with a snug fit so the gears don’t have any play in them.

Is there an identical front diff on another car that’s the same as the cheetah. Mine is very worn and it needs another but it takes weeks to get one. Is there a part that like traxxas or arrma makes that’s identical

Hi Teng, would like to know if the front drive shaft cup (connecting centre shaft) is slightly tilted? Mine is tilted whereby the edge of the cup is very close/almost touch the centre drive shaft. Is it normal because of the front metal base plate is tilted causing the drive cup not parallel (straight) with the centre drive shaft? Thanks in advance.

Yeah it’s tilted because the front area is tilted throughout the entire chassis.

good evening. I have this car for 7 days. In these 7 days I broke a front and two rear controllers. Also, I have had to change the central axis on two occasions because the pins that led to this axis have fallen out. Has all this happened to you? Is what is happening to me normal? I love the car but I am very disappointed. I need help

I never had any problems with mine. Only gear issues most of time from bashing. I’ve had my cheetah for over 5 years and it still good. Always check the screws and nuts everytime you buy a new rc. Can’t trust the factory as some times they forget to complete the job in quality checking before they sell or ship the rc.

Locktite or thread lock. The one I use is not good. I bought new one from the auto part store. They have heavy duty type of thread locks.

Hi, how's the diffs condition after using it without grease on it? Is it stripping slower? And have you ever seen video about slipper clutch mod to reduce the pinion gear and spur gear from stripping? Can you please try that mod? 🙂

The diff is still good. It’s wearing slower then when I had the grease. Overall, diff still need to be change when it comes time too.

@@ItsRCTeng hey i just wanted to add diff fluid to my differential, but i'm having trouble to remove the front bumper, it's like the golden arm holder is holding it, can you tell me how to remove it? And also for the rear diff, i was able to access it, but can't seem to remove it because the dog bones still in there, should i remove the rear arm first? Thank you.

Remove one of the lower arm from the hinge pin plate so one of the dog bone can come off then the diff should come out easily.

No both front and back diff needs to be unlocked in order to work properly. Only crawlers and drift cars can have a lock diff in order to perform the way they do.

no this is an open diff. you would have to use a really thick diff oil like 2 million cst in order to some what lock it.

Is the grinding noise normal? I noticed when you moved it back and forth it made a grinding noise. I just received my Jlb cheetah 11001, and noticed a grinding noise when moving it back and forth.

That means the gears are skipping on each other in the diff housing. Take it apart and check the driver pinion gear and crown on inside the diff housing. Try not to punch on the throttle when the car is rolling backwards that causes the plastic diff housing to flex under pressure making the gears skip.

Sorry I miss read your comment. It’s not a grinding noise. It’s the sound of the gears clicking on each other when the tooth’s on the gears are engaging. That’s normal to hear when your just moving the truck back and forth.
