With the Select Tool, to avoid selecting faces on both sides, you can go to 'Tool Settings' and choose 'Camera-based selection'. This way it will only select faces on one side of the model.

The TAB hotkey is an awesome addition to my hotkey addiction. For selecting poles I usually goes with Vertex Selection > Select the vertex at center > Hold the CTRL + right mouse button > And then select "Faces" and "To Faces". It select the faces connected to the vertex.

TAB hotkey is awesome indeed. Yup, that's another great way of selecting poles!

Really Thank you for this info. Tab selection and select similar is really cool. IDK why I wasn't using it till now! My favorite tool is Multi-cut + Quad Draw. That combo speeds ups modeling and editing instead doing right click and go to edge, vertex or face mode to edit them. Now it feels like " New Ability Unlocked " popup came to my mind. Really appreciated this video. Cheers! :)

FOR ME HAS BEEN REALLY GOOD. overall the "selection similar", because I couldn't expect that Maya could select similar subselection of faces, or (I don't know) edges...Good tip and powerful tool for Maya.

I come from 3DSMAX and this option I could use it only among objects, entire objects...This is why I'm impressed with it.

I need to change my brush selection size. How do you access the "paint selection tool" through the Hotbox? I could select it by clicking it in the tool bar by playing find the button, but it cramps my flow. Thanks in advance. -KP

The hotkey for that is holding down TAB. To my knowledge there's no way to change the size of that radius as it's not an actual brush.
