Thanks, Juan! This is helpful because I want to do the same thing to my shed. The only change I want to make is to capture the rain water in rain barrel(s) so I can pump it to my garden. Cheers!

I like the comment about the gutter under the drip edge. I just mounted mine and the aluminum gutter isn't flat against the fascia, so I have to raise it to prevent leaking. (2:58-3:25)

At 2:59 you say you messed up and realized you should’ve installed the gutter under the drip edge, however, I don’t even see a drip edge, is your drip edge, the exact same color as your shingles? I’m baffled. 😊

He should have put the caulking in the groove of the end cap, not on the edge of the gutter.

Gutter has to be behind drip edge of fascal flashing to prevent fascal water damage!
@Hawkeye143412 жыл бұрын
Dude I’m a home inspector, you have to add some extensions to the end of the downspouts all that water needs diverted away from the foundation pillars or you will cause more harm than good

Not disagreeing with you, just chiming in. Bought a house with a shed that was installed maybe 10-15 years ago. Shed has no gutters, house only has gutters in the front, it's Texas so most of the ground is clay, back yard borders a field, house was built on a mound, soil erosion caused a pretty significant grade in the back yard, as well as on both sides of the house (where the down spouts terminate). When it rains in the spring, the area around the shed is the lowest point, so a good portion of rain water rejected by the clay flows towards the shed and pools up around it, creating a marsh like ecosystem for 3-5 weeks, depending on weather patterns. This year it rained enough to attract frogs. There were about a dozen frogs still hanging out around the shed after the soil dried up, so I dug a small pit in the clay behind the shed, which is the absolute lowest point of the yard, and covered by shade trees all day. I figured it could act as a temporary "pond" for the frogs this year, and I could possibly expand it next year to catch more of the flood waters. But here's the fun part that relates to your comment about erosion and damage to pillars. The shed has been there at least 10 years. The yard is mostly clay. The shed foundation was not visible. Soil line was almost even with the threshold. Only obvious signs of soil erosion. But this was my first time actually sticking a shovel into it. Wet it down with a hose, and the sod layer peeled off easily. Looked to be about 2 inches of soil above the clay. Wet it again, started digging out the clay, and immediately hit rock. This wasn't natural rock though, this was crushed gravel. The hole I was digging was 6ft behind the shed. The gravel layer was about an inch or so thick. Then back to clay below that. Curious, I went to the front of the shed and stomped the shovel into the ground, hit rock about 2" below the surface, there was no real soil layer there. So, being the type of person I am, I soaked the ground around the shed in 4x2' sections and hammered metal tent spikes until I roughly mapped the extent of the hidden gravel. I noticed there was gravel in front of the shed as well as behind it, but not aside of it. So I divided that side into 1x1' and staked it. I didn't find gravel, but I did find a buried path made of cement paving stones. The shed was still level despite all this. In fact, the lack of gutters might have actually helped the shed keep itself level by "digging in" as the eroded soil piled up around it

No sir rain water is gonna wrot fascal board ! Gutter is used for 2 purpose , and that is to protect fascal and to prevent water from collecting perimeter of foundation. Which can caut foundation problems.

@15DurangoRT2 ай бұрын
No paint or aluminum on the fascia? That's different.
@daniel2segura10 ай бұрын
Nice, but you probably just need fascia aluminum all the way around under the edge of the roof. That wood will be fully exposed.
@delhenry98373 ай бұрын
Failed to paint the fascia and eve boards first??? All and any gutter back edges should go behind the drip edge. The fascia will rot out quickly if not painted as moisture will be trapped behind the gutter back edge and fascia.
@BurtBowers3 ай бұрын
Explain how you put the back of gutter under drip edge when there is the gutter bracket that would stop the back of gutter going behind drip edge, you may get 3/4" or less under the drip edge being the L bending bracket with screw will stop from going up as I said 3/4" at most, some people run back of gutter in front of drip edge to just under the shingles to keep water hitting the fascia boards which realistically is the only way to protect the fascia boards being can't go up high in back of drip edge.
@ELEVOPR3 жыл бұрын
What's the point of having gutters on a shed if you don't want them, why the mandates? Just curious because if their is no shed the grass is still absorbing the waters, maybe not as much as in a concentrated area of the V shape of the roof. Did they give you a logical explanation or was it an Authoritarian Decision, because we said do?

Them gutters weren’t leveled right .....I’m not here to bash but the water needs to run to the down spout and that was a lot of silicone caulk that’s was a lot of pile up at the seem that’ll act like a gold pan and shingles are coated in a corse rock like materials that are heavy sometimes so what happens is you get build up in those spots and it can bust the seem
