I am pretty sure this is covered under warranty. I think you will get this sorted out. Just gotta find the right person at the dealer or GM to own up.

Chevy does sell that exact part (2016-19)separate from the shifter, part #84855382 plus a harness extension part #84733196 that is recommended in a TSB #19-NA-206. BUT I like this quick fix a lot as well I have done that to electric tools before myself!!!

After several weeks of frustration, my 2019 Chevy Volt was finally repaired under the Voltec Component Warranty per Technical Service Bulletin 19-NA-206 at no charge by a "REPUTABLE" GM dealership, Dave Kirk in Crossville, TN. Shout out to Leteshia (GM's/BBB customer service representative" and the customer service staff at Dave Kirk Chevrolet!"

Sorry I'm just getting caught up on your videos I see you already have 3 parts to this. We had similar symptoms on our 2017 Volt and couldn't get the car to turn off and had the shift to park warning, but eventually the car would not start at all! I would caution though shift to park doesn't only mean it's that switch! We had a BCM issue that required the battery to be opened up and replaced. It was all under warranty. I'll see if I can find the TSB number. I did call chevrolet directly to have them tell the dealership it was covered under warranty.

Thanks for that info. If they give me a hard time I'll call the Chevy Customer Service line or something.

I have a Chevrolet Avalanche with a notorious tailgate handle locking mechanism issue. I fixed it very similarly with a piece of hose on a lever that sometimes fais to engage. It's working now, we'll see if my rigging it lasts. I think that (not really all that) micro switch might be a little different though. If you ask me the arm on it could be more rigid. If I had one, I'd see if it was possible to bend that little metal arm lengthwise in like a v shape, so that it would flex less. But that would be impossible without removing it, I'm sure. So I'd buy the new part, try to bend it, then replace it. Maybe it would hold out a little longer. (but then I do a lot of mechanicing myself) Otherwise you might want to stock up on the part if these things are going to go flimsy every year or two.

It seems to me that most times they last tens of thousands of miles. Not always of course such as the one with only 18,000 miles I found.

This happened to my 2018 Volt as well. It was covered under warranty last year.

Are you talking about the power train or bumper to bumper. Surely the bumper to bumper was out. Perhaps you had an extended warranty.

It seems as though you are right. I'm so glad my viewers let me know. I'm gonna pay a visit to the dealership next week.

The micro switch is replaceable by the way. Very inexpensive and easy to do.

If your diy fix doesn't work for you and you cannot get your Volt to turn off, a new connector and wring harness are free as well the install at your nearest Chevy dealer (reference GM Service Bulletin 19-NA-206, dated February 2020). Let me stress that if you cannot get your car to turn off (Chevy Blazer, Malibu, Traverse, Volt, GMC Acadia), your 12 volt battery will run low and be killed if you don't get it to a dealer ASAP. The dealer will not give you a free battery ($200) plus battery test socked me for $234. So if you cannot get it to a dealer, disconnect the 12 volt battery in order to save it. If you get it to a dealer, disconnect the battery when you get there and alert the service department that you did so. GM will reimburse them for the installation of the harness and shifter, not the battery. That's on you. Just figure I'd give you a heads up.

Thanks a lot for that service bulletin number. I'm gonna look it up. I did not know about the 12 volt battery. I'm glad you told me. Thank you.

maybe your mechanic can apply the "home" fix and save you the price of the part....probably no warranty but looks like a 30 minute deal
@ArkansasEV

I thought about that but I bet a mechanic would probably want to fix it the right way or not at all. That's just a guess.

I just found it it's under warranty after all and the lady at Central Chevrolet was simply wrong. Everything is pointing to that being the truth anyway. I've already done a 2nd video about it.

Noooo this is a 100% cover part under warranty.. shouldn’t even pay a dollar

Are you saying it's covered under the power train warranty? It's certainly possible the lady at Central Chevrolet was mistaken. She was not rude but I felt as though I was bothering her. Maybe she did not want to look it up. No accusation here, just wondering if that's possible.

@@ArkansasEV this happened to me right after purchase dealer completely covered it. Covered by “voltec warranty” fight the dealership on cost and find a better dealership.
@ArkansasEV
@ArkansasEV Жыл бұрын
@@douglaskeller7950 Finding a better dealership is kind of a hassle. The last I checked the one 4 miles from my house has an EV mechanic and the next one is about 100 miles away. We have 1/2 dozen between us and that one but none have an EV mechanic. You don't need to be EV authorized to fix this but Chevy simply will not touch them unless they've been EV certified. I'm not sure if they'd even do an oil change. They might do that, maybe. I'm gonna visit Central Chevrolet early next week, talk to the guru's there, and show them my paperwork I printed.
