One thing about the "Passionate players" is that i see often people saying "oh imagine how they would be with a top tier character" but to me it's their sheer motivation in extracting the best of the shit character (like pachikasu with sean on 3 strike, love him) that drives them to become so good, if they suddenly started playing a top tier that kind of motivation probably would not be there and they would be just decent at best.

It's not that gen is bad he just has a high skill barrier which makes people not have the confidence to try and get better with him, this happens in a lot of other games too. The best characters often take the most skill to master and have the highest payoff if you're willing to put time and effort into getting better with them. It's because they often have great mix ups but are very technical thus require more skill and practice to play at the highest level which has more potential than more basic easy to use characters with less options available.

That's why Gen is the best, true stances!😄 His jump and walk speed are also quite different and used to be even more so, they nerfed his jump quite a bit over time. Stance change takes 1 frame where you cannot block :( Another trick for MK > Hands that is.. depressing is after people really started passing around "plink" techniques it was discovered Gen can just.. basically mash MK + MP + HP and get hands (FADC too) super easy. All those hours practicing piano and people can just roll their face on the buttons T.T

Its really not as bad once you get the muscle in, just tap 3-p/3-k immediately after you hit the normal you want to stance-dance from and continue linking. @jmcrofts You can do Gen's standing MK xx Heavy Hands with the piano method. I usually use my thumb and index finger to hit MK and LP at the same time and then continue on with the rest of the piano method. (MK+LP, HP, MP, LP, HP) You still get the 5 inputs required for hands and the MK takes priority over the LP. I was a Honda main in SF4 and this was the method that I used for CR.MK xx Hands

I'm not a Gen player, but the input I use for strong into heavy hands is mp, hp, mp, lp, hp. And then one of his most useful combos is st mp linked into the hp, mk target combo cancelled into heavy hands.
@AlcoholidayHHH24 күн бұрын
I was a heavy Gen player back in SFA3. I'm not sure how his moves transferred over from pixel, but Gen's standing HK (Crane) was an incredibly strong counter move, same with FP. It seemed to take a lot of priority, same with Mantis Rising Kick, and if you could time it out to 8, it was a guaranteed knock down, though I could never get the timing right to switch combo into the Crane head stomp super. But my favorite move was the Mantis finger punch super, akin to the 5 point exploding heart death punch from Kill Bill. I didn't see it mentioned here for SF4, but it was great seeing the countdown timer tick away at their life bar. Sometimes people wouldn't even notice and they would just die suddenly on the opposite side of the screen, wondering what happened.

5:15 I'm glad I'm not the only one who had to come up with this tech, for me it was for SF5 Blanka of all characters! The *only* option blanka has off of crouching medium kick that doesn't require charge and won't whiff is EX Electricity, and in SF5 you NEED a good hit confirm off of crouching medium kick or you just don't have neutral. Even after all this time, it's still a very physically uncomfortable tech to execute, too.

I recommend watching Xiao Lon's gameplay. She is from KOF Maximum Impact Regulation A And she has an unique gameplay because she has *three fighting stances* where she can change during the match. Also, her special moves were good and her movility was excellent (she has the fastest teleport in the game) Xiao Lon was top 3 in the tier list, she is not easy to master but when you learn how to play as her, you will have a great time.

Gen, to me, represents an important part of the fighting game journey. The: "whoa i want to do THAT." Picking a few things like, waterfall kicks, or the target combo into hands, or super into ultra. Letting these things make you go "alright, i may not learn the rest of the character, but I want to do that!" Then you end up learning more. Anyone else do this with other characters?

Gen started in SFA3 (after SF1, of course). Back then, literally _nobody_ played Gen, and I'm not even sure what a top-tier Gen would look like. Another thing about Gen were _chain combos,_ which few other characters had back then (only Guy and Cody I think.) He could chain off his overhead, which was neat.
@NickTheRedFox2 жыл бұрын
One of my greatest memories of playing Gen was pulling off a 80%~ combo with him. It required the super meter and ultra meter, where you did the super move where he dashes forward, then switch stances so you can do the ultra which is an anti air. The super barely lifts the target up in the air, but it had to be frame perfect. There was definitely a little more to the combo than what I said, but man does it hype you up when you execute it!

One of the reasons Japan has a lot of weird "one-tricks" for even low tier characters is that there isn't much money in Japanese eSports due to the country's gambling laws which consider playing in a tournament for a prize pool gambling for money. This means that basically every Japanese eSports player has to do it for the passion and prestige because you can only make a career from competitive gaming in Japan from sponsorships and joining an eSports team.

My question has always been: if a character has multiple attacks that do the same thing, why would you use any other than the one with the least startup and end frames?
