I say this as a COMPLETE beginner, but that unblockable setup you did during the character overview is absurdly hard. TTH is impossibly hard too. I practiced for close to 10h and got TTH once in training mode, let alone any setups. The beginner experience is moreso spamming normals, dropping motion inputs and feeling utterly and completely lost. This just ain't how getting into 3S felt like to me.
@Boyzby

A beginner also has little to no knowledge about the game. Like, yeah, I've watched a lot of 3rd Strike, but I'm not retaining that info, thinking about it, and using it.

Watch dr steel hammers leaving Mongolia series. For tth make sure to do the first tackle as soon as possible, many people make the mistake of waiting a split second longer which ultimately drops the combo. If you nail the first tackle the rest should be easy.

Whoa, reading thag gave me MAD flashbacks. GOOD flashbacks, too. My friend Nathan stumbled across EVO Moment #37 on KZbin somehow, and thus he showed it to me. And having played various SF's in my younger years, I was all in. We slowly roped in one new person at a time, and eventually we had a nice little playgroup active, from like 2008-2012. I graduated in 2007, and Nathan still had one more year left, so I remember waiting for him to get outta school and warming up in the Training mode to try and body him immediately first game 🤣🤣🤣 good times, good times. It sucks it sort of all fell apart as life took us all in different directions, you would think one thing that would be able to transcend all that would be fighting games, but sadly not in this case. I'm sure they all still play individually, just like I do. I need to find a new group come to think of it

Everybody loves watching the come up. I just said this on Brian's community post about road to warlord popping off, but it's such an easy to follow storyline it's easy to watch and enjoy. It's also hype to see you learning a new character at the same time, and I'm realizing I get to live all my charge character dreams vicariously through you. I just can't commit to changing up how I play for that archetype but they're so cool so often, and it's super frustrating.

In the arcades when I played this, I already knew if I would win or lose. If a player comes up and says, "Hello, do you mind if I fight you?" oh I already knew I would whip them. However, if someone came up, didn't say a word, just inserted a coin and hit start no matter what I was doing in the match, then it was gonna be a real fight.

Before fightcade existed there was a much smaller community on another service like 15 years ago, I played at like 3am local time and the only other person online was guy from Egypt who was an absolute demon, I would play him everynight for hours, I don't think I even took a round off him for the first few weeks. Than I started to take some rounds off him and eventually beat him the odd time Throwing myself at this demon everynight for like a month made me ok at this game. He didn't even speak English so no talking just fighting.

As of right now, I'm playing Makoto and still getting my confirms down (Hayate into SA1 is a pretty challenging link). As soon as I get that down, I'll follow you in ranked path. Pretty fun game, I'm really enjoying it.

This is a fun video, but let's be honest here, just because you're playing as a new character doesn't mean all the other 3rd Strike knowledge you've accrued over the years just suddenly vanish; you are literally always going to do better than a real 1st-time player today, I can tell without ever having played the game. I just recently got into SF6 as my first SF game and I love it but I've been really enjoying watching 3rd Strike and I've been thinking I might try to download FightCade and learn how to play in the near future (especially since it doesn't seem like we're gonna get any 3rd Strike characters in SF6 any time in the foreseeable future,) but I somehow doubt I'm going to do as well as you're doing in this video when I decide to do that.

@@SelfieCast the very fact that you become hostile and have a problem with someone asking a simple, harmless question about legality ironically speaks miles about how much fun at a party you are. you really checkmated yourself here. also this will be unbeknownst to you, but not every country has the same laws. where I’m from pirating data is strictly prosecuted. people get caught and pay ridiculous fines for downloading music and movies all the time. that’s why nobody does it since decades ago. everyone streams. so naturally, I asked. don’t be a buffoon and assume what you know applies to the rest of the world.

The thing that makes learning a game fun, i feel i should mention, is if you can get whooped and still enjoy your matches. As a beginner, you _will_ get whooped, no matter how gard you research and/or try. If you can lose and still enjoy the process, you're home-free. Third strike checks that box for me. Parries especially make the game have more sauce that can make it fun to lose in a sort of "yeah man you deserve this win" way. Not a bad feeling to get styled on all the time, at least for me.

To everyone learning third strike, I want you all to know that the fighting game experience is a grueling experience. With motion inputs being inconsistent and players who seemingly know everything. I won't give anyone a pep talk. But as a complete beginner learning this game was a tall mountain. It was easy to be discouraged and frustrated. But the progress you go just by continuing to play, the game goes from a torture session to a dance. Just a tip to send you off. Play a simple character in your first few days weeks, until you get the feel of the inputs and the game. Then move on to the cool characters. Even if you play for urien or makoto, you wont be playing the game if you don't parry that denjin, or anti air that jump-in. And don't give up. If you give up, then you wont get the experience that the other players use to eat you up like lunch. But you probably knew all that so heres the big secret for beginners... Dont press buttons if you dont know what will happen after. If you press crouching medium kick just to do something with your character, you will experience pain. Give it a bit more thought, like pressing crouching medium kick to keep the opponent away from throw range.

I started playing fighting games casually about 3 years ago because I used to mainly play RPGs but started a job where I worked almost 70 hours a week. I didn’t have the time to put into an RPG and get any enjoyment out of. I grew up playing MK with some of my childhood friends. They were always way more into it than me. I’m high school I playing MK 9 quite a bit but not online or completely. I didn’t even know there was a competitive scene. 3 years ago when I was at that job I got the street fighter 30th anniversary collection and I loved third strike! Just the art style of it really drew me in. Alpha 3 did too but not like 3rd strike. I started doing research and watching videos and I’m still nothing more than extremely casual at all the fighting games I play but I really want to dedicate to getting to the next level. I don’t have a pc but I need to get on Fightcade and start getting my ass beat so I can finally learn!

I’m more of an Alpha 3 guy myself, but I’ve been appreciating 3rd Strike more recently. And my experience might be as biased as yours, having played Street Fighter since II Turbo on the SNES, but in my opinion, if you’re coming from another SF into this one, you’ll be fine figuring it out. Unless your starting point was SF6 with Modern controls, you’ll already have the fundamentals down and should feel comfortable getting started and building up from there. And if you are coming from 6 on M controls, you’ll want to dabble in Classic controls before moving into an older game like 3rd Strike. And if you truly are a beginner to fighting games, don’t feel ashamed in playing against the computer until you’re more comfortable with the controls. Otherwise you might get bummed out in online and stop playing all together.

If you tech roll out of his setups, or are able to catch him in a grounded position, you can pretty much always wake up super with command grabs to get out of aegis. As soon Urien catches on, you have to start using it more sparingly lmao

Honestly, the main issue with learning 3s on FightCade is you’re online and you’re gonna learn really bad habits because, frankly, Fightcade’s netcode isn’t great and leaves really dumb, punishable stuff un-punishable online. Like the Akuma player sweeping on your wakeup. It’s pretty common knowledge all shoto’s sweeps are hella punishable on block. And you’re not getting anything out of knocking the opponent down again. You’ve just risked getting blown up to be in the same position you could’ve taken advantage of the first time. And, to be clear, not trying to pick on the player. It’s a habit they probably picked up on Fightcade and maybe it’s worked out for them so far. But it’s - on block enough that a lot of characters can punish with a full combo to super. So, online 3s just kinda ends up being its own weird thing that will teach habits that will leave you getting knocked out in any other setting. If online is your only option tho, just remember that a lot of stuff is way easier to parry and punish when you’re playing locally so the more you build bad habits, the worse you’re going to do against a strong player. Even online tbh if you suddenly find yourself playing someone with a great connection.

Some days ago i installed third strike as my first fighting game, picked a character i liked, then proceeded to lose 12-15 ft3 in a row where i didnt won a single round. I cried, i am still trying to learn it but im gonna leave the ranked for a future time I don't think your experience was even near to someone who is truly starting out

Your fundamentals and game-knowledge (based on your commentary, wow!) are clearly at least worthy of B Rank! I probably don't need to tell you this, but Urien may end up holding you back because, although he's a very strong character, his real strength comes from the shenanigans that he can execute after a ~ton~ of labbing -- and I'm not sure that's something that you'll necessary be interested in? Without those hours of labbing, it's gonna be hard to hang in B Rank with him, because his neutral game just isn't as strong as other 'strong' characters (and even some characters weaker than him). Urien is one of the most execution-centric characters in the game, along with Yun; I only say all of this because I was so impressed by how strong you are in this game and I think it's a little unfortunate that you feel like you haven't been able to cross that threshold into 'good'. In a game with a skill-ceiling as high as 3rd Strike, "good" is relative, but your neutral, punishes, and knowledge definitely marked you as a 3rd Strike player -- and trust me, I know a lot of 3rd Strike players! If you ever have any questions or want to get some games or anything, feel free to hit me up any time! I love your content and appreciate what you've been doing for the FGC at large.

Most good Urien players i see and one of my friends who does play alot of charge chars ( UR,Q,Alex) he does Uriens lp fierball > super cancel Aegis reflector. It might be better for timing of the setup if its hard to parry fierball then mirror in 2 odd timings or if its esier to get the super while the special move is out and you get to buffer super before animations end.

B Rank in 3S is definitely a good rank. I would compare it to being a 1400/1500mr Master in SF6. I am a B rank in ST, but just getting started with 3S and I am a C rank there. I feel that the skill level of C ranks in 3S is quite good in terms of fundamentals. You find decent C players in 3S, but they are only decent by playing like it's SF2, once they fight people who are playing 3S in the unique way that 3S is played, they crumble.

Pretty new to 3rd Strike (5 years), one of the super rare games where you can still have fun losing online.

The problem with Third Strike these days is that there are way too many people who are way too good at it. So unless you're ready and willing to devote your entire life and every waking second to learning this game, you basically don't stand a chance competitively.
