the term " Lemon " refers to a New machine/vehicle more than a Used machine/vehicle and is not really something that applies to something that was damaged by misuse.... it was used as a term to describe a poorly assembled brand new product...that constantly needs repair due to poor design or bad parts ( that when changed don't really fix the problem )... any Used and High Hours of Running equipment will be needing repairs and most " Used " sales are due to them being damaged or needing $$ thrown at them to get working....Buyer Beware when looking at things to buy....Not all Sellers are interested in telling you the Real Reason they are getting Rid of it...

Well done on the fix! At 57:35 when you refill the pot hole, I have some top tips to share! Dig the hole out square first, whether you do it with the loader or by shovel doesn’t really matter as long as it’s a perfect square, about 6 inches deep or more, when you fill it in with stone - the stone will stay there and not scoot out like in a rounded pot hole. It will last you 5 years or more maybe. Hope that helps 🙌 If you don’t square it off first, the pot hole will just return in a few weeks.

I am seriously happy that the owner gave you back some of your money. The red silicon on the oil pan is dead giveaway that you are not the first in the engine... bolts in the manifold breaking was a heat problem and who ever was in there never used the silver or bronze neversieze in the threads. I definitely would get a set of extractor sockets, they bite into anything that you loosen up because of the spiral inside the socket is designed to get tighter on the head as you remove even carriage head bolts, or even screws if your able to get a bite on it... I have used them getting those pesky locking lug nuts off that the key doesn't work on or is lost. Really happy the worm turned for you... summer is here, its just a wet snowy summer so thats kinda new to this old man

Just an old retired mechanic here, might try when you weld the nuts to make sure it cools all the way and then put your little impact on it let it rattle and then put a big impact on it just a friendly suggestion
@jmuller86

yea I have learned that the longer you wait to turn it, usually the better..it gives its heat to the mass around the bolt and expands it, instead of just expanding the bolt
@mikeschroer7829
@mikeschroer7829 2 жыл бұрын
@@jmuller86 Couple more tips. Using flux core tens to put voids in the weld. Using a washer first and cleaning and then maybe even spot welding and cleaning while filling the nut with weld. Then make sure you get it as hot as you can without melting it. Closer to white hot than red. Then wait for it to cool completely or splash water on it. The heat turns red rust into black rust and is a chemical process. If you have ever done electrolysis rust removal you will see how much less holding force black rust has than red rust. Plus the complete cooling allows the components to microscopically move and separate.

In the past when I would rebuild a diesel motor, the office guy would be out there telling me what to do, but as soon as I cranked the engine he ran out...he said he had one run on and did not want to be around for that....again, talking heads ..all hat no cattle. Great job trouble shooting it and doing the "bush fix" on it. A good experiment that saved you a lot of money and will in all likelihood go the distance. I was biting my finger nails worrying that extractor would snap off in the broken oil galley bolt. Thankfully you took your time and worked it out. I have found using "reverse drill bits" will sometimes spin a broken fastener out by themselves while drilling in for the extractor. A cheap investment. Irwin makes an extractor kit that has the appropriate reverse bits for each one. Also, on rounded heads, there is an extraction socket set made by Rocket Socket that is a fluted cut socket to really grab onto a disfigured bolt head, getting it out. Great work. Methodical approach and organization. Good camera angles and nice editing. Thanks for the video. What a lot of viewers who don't produce videos should keep in mind, is how much more work it is shooting video while trying to work around the camera. Changing the shot to allow good viewing, dying camera batteries, bad lighting, lights going dead in the middle of the shot, messing with lighting angles, re-shooting certain scenes as needed, explaining what you are thinking and doing, charging batteries, organizing clips into files so you can make sense of it when edit time arrives. Then the time it takes to learn editing, learning an editing software program, rendering and previewing. Then getting a finished tweaked video up on KZbin. It's a lot of extra work beyond the repair job. I hope people will remember that time and effort when they comment, especially when they negatively comment. Hopefully viewers (especially non content producing viewers) temper their opinions and choose their words accordingly. Nothing worse than an ugly comment, then you look at the commenters profile and they have no videos up. I do videos too and I get it. Thanks for the extra work taking us all along.

Someone knew that Rod was Bent not saying the person you bought from But someone was in that oil pan, the Silicone and where was the busted part of that hole ? Someone took it out and the Orange Silicone was not Factory, Thanks for the Great content, I am a Mechanic for the past 30 years and to watch you brings back some good times. But I would have asked the person you purchased from and just ask them. 17k Plus all your time that was about a 5 to 10 k job even though you didn't sleeve it still that is many hours of labor. got a knew channel to watch thanks Andrew C for the new content and Mechanic's are my favorite. Happy days and Great Work Jesse.

I think your fix will hold, good call. I'm glad the guy at least gave you back a grand, somebody knew what was going on because I didn't hear you say or show the piece of cylinder wall the bent rod popped loose. Someone pulled it out of the pan! Good luck going forward with your new skiddy.👍🏼

when that last bolt snapped I thought you were going to lose it, but you worked the problem and the sigh of relief when it turned was well worth the effort. Good job.

Jesse you have a lot of knowledge up there in your head!! I have been following you for some time now. At one time I had much younger friend in his 20's He was like you. Last time I seen and spent time with him he was married and working in some government thing with space technology in Quebec Canada. Keep the great videos coming when you get time and all the best in your pressing forward with your life going forward.

Nice work! Pleasure to watch you and listen to the explanation. Your mechanical intuition is very sharp. Good music too and not too much or at the wrong times. Subscribed and looking forward to more. Thanks

I know almost nothing about engines, but what I do know is that if something is even a "half-tick off" the engine seemingly won't work properly and it will let you know immediately. It blows my mind that the engine worked as well as it did with that bent connecting rod being so far out of whack and the problems that were associated with it. I'm enjoying this Skidsteer project!

really all that would happen is reduced compression on that cylinder and some vibration from balance being out of whack due to the bent rod

The broken injector bolt looked to be quite tight so may not have come out easily but for these extractions it is worth using a left hand drill bit. In many cases the left hand drilling action can be enough to bring the broken bolt out on the end of the drill bit. Very satisfying when it works accompanied with lots of jumping around and shouting.

Great work. Good to see her running like a top. Besides burning off any extra oil in the first minute, we might have seen the new rings bed in as far as smoke.

Sweet result! Each time you faced the getter out gremlins my heart went out to you. But by pure arse or all class you dominated those mate! Top marks! The fox you have done will see you well, provided the mystery hydrolock fault isn’t a gremlin due to visit again later. Great vid cheers

Great job! The impact on the bottom of the old piston was from the Crank Shaft Counter Balance impacting it. It will not be any issue with the missing piece in the bottom of the cylinder I may have a Slapping noise like a Chevy 5.3 when you start them cold. That area of the cylinder only keeps the piston from rocking back and forth. God Bless you and your Family

That was great work. Now that I' getting up in years, I hate the thought of doing it outside on gravel. Tools never where I needed, missing nuts. The internet is a great place for specs. Did that snap at 29 lbs on the 1 or 4 cylinder? I've owned a couple of Gehl skids and I always liked them but I could swear they were Deutz. The only thing bad for me when I fixed something similar to the problem that you ran into was that I was constantly thinking I was hearing strange sounds, but that went away after about 500 hrs. Smoke was gone after a couple of minutes. Good luck, and thanks for the vid!
