Legend has it that even 5 years later it still hasn't cured.

I had the same problem. I looked up QPR and they said to dust in some Portland Cement. I did and, it was still soft two days later. On the third day it hardened up. I doubted that it was hard, so I drove my car over it. It was hard. I left now tire marks. Try raking it up a little to expose the aggregate. Put about 1/8" of mortar mix , or 1/16" of Portland Cement and tamp the fire out of it. See if that helps. Good luck.

Ya should have dusted it with Portland, like they recommend in their instructional video when a faster cure is needed.

so, cold patch asphalt has a bit of a marketing scam to it. It doesn't really 'harden' for weeks and weeks. It loses its tackyness fast so you can drive on it, but its not hard. Its really only good for holes in flat parts of blacktop that will not have wheels TURNING (moving steering wheel) on it. Any other scenarios ( unless you buy that 45 dollar a bag stuff) you will have problems. Here is what you can do to turn it into something rock hard in 2 days: get whatever brand you want of cold patch. Also buy vehicle strength (high strength) concrete, such as quickcrete Q max or similar, also some asphalt liquid crack filler and some asphalt quick dry skim coat material (latex-tite makes these products as an example you can get it at HD). Now if you are putting this down fresh you can skip the liquid crack filler, but if you have already put it down and need it to harden, then buy the filler. So for those putting it down fresh follow the instruction of the cold patch EXCEPT mix in about 4-5 cups of dry concrete per bag and DO NOT fill patch over the area, fill it level or 1/8 inch under sized. Lay down, compress by running your car over it and then lightly water it (not too much

Could the patch be sealed after a few days after the cement hardened (let's say a week)?
@tomlaz2039
@tomlaz2039 5 жыл бұрын
tdok cold patch has extra oils so it stays soft for a long time. It’s really not meant to be a permanent fix and definitely not meant to have pallet jacks or forklifts on it

It will harden in a couple days if you don’t use that iron tamper. Use a 4x4 and hit it until the gravel in the mix breaks down. And only put down 2 inches at a time

I used both kinds the same day. This soft patch and the soft patch you add a little water before you tap. This stuff is soft after 2 weeks and the other got hard after 2 days. I will try a sprinkle of mortar or cement mix.

QPR Is a great product, It will say soft if it is in a low or no traffic area, it needs compaction. Build a crown on the patch and compact it. Dusting it with dry sand or cement will help, It is designed to be soft so it moves a bit, rigid patches pop out and fail.

Read the info on the website and purchased a bag of sand with the QPR. I should have left a little more of a crown, but the product worked perfectly for me.

I have learned that it cures fast and great in areas with heavy vehicle traffic. In low traffic areas, it will always have problems curing.

It can take up to 6 months to fully cure also you should have dusted it with mortar dust and tamped it into the QPR it will help harden the top for a quick use especially going over with a fork truck.

It worked for me, but it also removed some of the oil so the very top gravel rocks are not sticking. I was told it’s best to heat the product before laying it down. I may slurry coat it now since the product is hard from torching it after I laid and compacted it down.

It actually mentions not curing for 6 months, but you should be able to drive over it immediately. It's purposefully moveable to expand dirt and water out.

Try putting a piece of junk plywood over the area that you travel over it and leave it their.... Its not pretty but will give the mix more time to cure... These cold mixes are not the greatest...I have filled potholes with the various cold mixes that are sold in bags and buckets... some are good and some are junk that still stays tacky and easily become depressed and indented and pushes up areound the sides of the wheels when you park directly over them on or if a heavy wheel should displace when traveled over...like a pallet jack wheel...on our potholes At the foot of the driveway I have found that no matter how well I tamped when a car dorve over it shortly after it would get displaced and pushed down in the area. but if you leave the plywood iover them for about a week it gives it more time to cure... you can apply water to the top of them as per instruction if the directions call for it and say that "it helps harden it" but with that pallet jack situation and that area why dont you just get a piece of diamond plate and put it over the patch to level it and leave it there... that shoud take care of your problem... (just a suggestion)

Mine took a couple days then it was hard as shit its still there 4 years later with no issue. If it wasn't dry after months I'd re bag it and take it back to lowes.

You might want to dig that mushy stuff out and replace with a couple bags of fence post concrete mix. Quick, easy, cheaper and stronger than asphalt.

Assault is cheaper and easier to use. Don't fool yourself thinking this is a great fix. A ton of blacktop is only about $55 to $60 at the most. You'll pay more for cold patch by the bag or ton.
