Another point about being pale for a period drama, historically it was seen as a sign of status since it was a way of showing that you didn't work outdoors, since most outdoor jobs were peasant jobs

Status yes and beauty standards just were different - well maybe very much because of the status thing

@@dugeniadugeniadugeniadugen5266, it used to be the same way in the west, being overweight was a sign of wealth. Now, ironically, it's the opposite. Obesity is more common in poorer areas.

I'm pretty sure that is where the term, "Blue Bloods" comes from. Being so pale that the veins are seen easier through the skin which carry the darker, oxygen depleted blood or "blue blood" back to get oxygenated. Again a form of high status.
@rbeygarcia2 жыл бұрын
No, that’s Indian people. The white were the reverse. The white rich had tans from their travels to warmer climates on holiday, like Greece, Italy, The Caribbean, Egypt, etc. While the servants had pale skin because they were both untraveled and basement-dwelling workers with little exposure to sunlight. Which is why fake tanning is still a thriving, lucrative, and in-demand industry in young Britain today. It’s a status symbol.

@@Snaakie83 writing from american. *everyone* has an accent, nitwit. I live in the commonwealth of pennsylvania, on the east coast. I've only ever seen her in a docudrama as Myra Hindley's sister. That was very good- but it's quite arduous viewing at times, as anyone familiar with the Brady-Hindley cases in 1960s Manchester will know. Unfortunately, Brady was a psychopathic, perverted murderer- and he pulled his girlfriend/ fiancée down with him. As ever with these cases, she ended up having a harder time of it than he did- although she too was guilty of some seriously evil acts.
