This airplane is going to be LOVED! Imagine sitting in a city park. How do you feel when a helicopter goes over or lands. It's a huge nuisance. Jobe cannot be heard above 600' and when it is heard it is the sound of wind. Seeing someone arrive in a city setting will seem magical in comparison. A boost to quality of life rather than the arrogance of expensive helicopters. AND it is so safe!

IF you have a Prop Strike during the vertical Lift Phase ALL 6 Props seem to be in the same 'Plane' - on the same Level - so one broken off one could hit another, that can then cause a cascading failure of others. Simple Solution would be spacers, or just move the mount points/joints up or down by a few Inches.
@Max17J6 күн бұрын
You have to understand that surviving bird strike on the props is a certification requirement. This has to be demonstrated to certify the aircraft.

I thought tilting rotors was the reason for the many osprey crashes of this type of design used by the military.
@victorbrunelle53734 ай бұрын
Apples and oranges! The tilt rottern has 2 massive turbine engines creating an asymmetrical nightmare that has killed many. It is raw power and no grace. Joby has 6 rotors placed in perfect lever/ fulcrum so that any loss of up to 2 motors is automatically compensated for with "shared power". You share electrical power easy & at the speed of light. When an Osprey engine goes the airplane n naturally wants to flip over. It takes brute force to control. Joby is a revolution. An instant classic for AAM.
@bronxishomenomatterwhereig31494 ай бұрын
Osprey is WAAAAYYYY Heavier than this man. The tilting rotors are much more practical with something light like this.
@CombatSport7773 ай бұрын
The osprey uses 2 tilting rotors and is vastly different in design. The Osprey did go through a difficult stage with crashes but that platform is performing well now and will save American lives in the field.
@victorbrunelle53733 ай бұрын
@@CombatSport777 "vastly different" indeed! Joby had the valuable use of all the (transitional lift) data that was compiled during the development of the Osprey.But the tilting of thrust is the only similarity between these aircraft. The stability and controllability that results from the shared distribution of electrical power is going to surprise the passengers.

The Osprey should have been designed with six tilting ELECTRIC rotors - paired with the correct sized generators.

Good luck with 20 to 30 min. flight time then the charging time. This is the future when battery technology improves.
@dhsajdak4 ай бұрын
@@JoeMicalizziMPCThe S4 can fly for much longer than that but is not really designed to. It’s designed for short hops and quick battery top offs during unloading/loading. The battery will generally be charged to around 80% and be able to handle many trips each day. Of course it will continue to improve as battery technology improves however they also have the hydrogen in development. If you are looking for long, zero emission and quiet flights, that will be the future for that.

Did real experienced pilots help you with the design? A very nice aircraft, however, you have an electrical nightmare to deal with. Six propellers…more useful for the military large drone mission, not a civilian commercial flying taxi. Six propellers is ludicrous. Imagine monitoring six electric driven engines…pilot overload scenario. Not the rosy picture you paint when considering safety of flight you failed to mention on purpose. Explain all safety of flight procedures for any main system (especially electrical) failure. What are the emergency procedures for a single propeller, multiple propellor, or all propellor failure? Recovery parachute system? What about flying over water when a complete electrical failure occurs. So many lapses in your slick sales pitch.
