Really good episode. Significant overlap with Tolstoy's view of history, war, great men, leadership and decision making as expressed in War and Peace. Such timeless lessons.

I wish Jocko would watch some more movies from the post soviet block. They illustrate so well how was it to live under communism or the softer forms of it. For example people will definitely deliver the numbers, but it's only the numbers they deliver written on a report, with no actual product behind it.

Had to come comment... I listen to the podcast every Wednesday morning at work on Spotify. While learning from the podcast over the past three years... Today is the first time this podcast IMMEDIATELY changed my behavior. After the podcast, I decided to end every third sentence with "F@#K YOU!" And I realized pretty quickly... That didn't surprise my coworkers at all. It seems they're used to me randomly saying some out of pocket stuff. I'm censoring myself here... I cuss like a towboater... Because I was once a river rat. Thank God Im a worker in a heavy industrial plant... Where tough and rough work creates that rough and tough brotherhood camaraderie. Otherwise, I may not ever be hirable. I'm joking, kinda... But man. This podcast, just the rare multiple obscenities. It made my day. 😂

Sometimes good manners and patience can be percieved as weakness in society. So you have to be able to switch from polite and patient to metered aggression in order to not be preyed upon. Knowing when and how agressively to flip that switch is a great way to measure mental strength. Only a man capable of aggression is capable of peace. Submission in the absence of an ability to be aggressive is weakness. The perfect example of a peaceful man is Jesus Christ. When the need to exhibit righteous aggression arose at the temple He had no problem dolling it out. I wish more men could see that Jesus was a great example of a true Alpha male and not the wussified hippie beta the modern day church makes Him out to be.
