Wooden Leg was taking part in what we call in Chippewa a "Humbalechee" or Vision Quest. The Plains Indians, we didn't have tobacco we call it kanik-kanik and you are right it is a mixture of wild herbs all drug free. We do all the ceremonies today including the "Sundance" which is like the Vision Quest and lasts 4 days and 4 nights of no food or water, dancing from sunrise to sunset on the third day those who are called to pierce, do so, if you would like to attend any ceremonies you are more then welcome to come and attend out here in Omaha. What is called to "pierce"?
@evschem6013
@evschem6013 3 жыл бұрын
@@johnpierce4778 you make your own pegs from a choke cherry branch and then during Sundance on the 3rd day all dancers pierce from there chest or your back you choose. So with a scalpel they cut your chest or back enough to push the peg through then you tie up to the tree in the center and dance back and fourth from the tree 4 times while praying for the reason you’re out there dancing for. Then on the 4th time you can either run back and break off the rope or dance them out. Sometimes you don’t break off the first so gotta try few times or otherwise they will just pull you off if you can’t break. It takes a lot out of you to try and break. But the reason for piercing is basically all about honoring our women because women are the most part of Dakota culture they bring life and are the backbone of our people so piercing is a little into the pain that women go through and also your offering the most valuable thing you have to the creator for your prayers which is yourself. They’re are a lot of teachings and different things people say about Sundance and what it means. That’s the beauty of Dakota culture there are literal hundreds of ways to do each ceremony everyone does it little different and that’s good. All I’ve ever been taught by many is as long as you do it with a good heart and good mind, that’s the right way to do it. All this comes from Dakota people btw what a lot of tribes call their stuff it came from us the Dakota we taught alot of tribes about these ways and about the drum and singing especially we the first to make the drum and we’re told to give it to all nations and teach them. That’s just a little piece of info into What Sundance truly means and a little history of Dakota people are our ceremonies I could keep typing a book for you 😅 but I doubt anyone would wanna read this much so sorry for going off.

Thank you for reading this book. I am an Okie with native blood in me and enjoy learning about the history of the tribes. I enjoy listen to the podcast while I'm at work or during my Thursday evening workouts at home. I used two packets in my tea and the other day and ran out of weights and had to go out in the drive way to squat my truck. That stuff realy works.... I was just at the gun shop getting my new arrows tipped and Royce Gracie was in there getting new arrows. That was pretty cool.

I really enjoy listening to all of the podcasts. I am From the Chumash tribe on the Central Coast of California and grew up learning how to hunt, track, navigate terrain and even some escape and evasion tactics. Always wanted to join the military, but decided to take a different path after attending MMA in Virginia, where I ran into Richard Marcinko a couple of times. One of the few people in my life that made a HUGE impression on me and he didn't even have to say a word. Much respect and thanks to you and everyone else for your service.

We are drawn in by the history of it all, my Grandma Holland called it "His story" referencing God acting in the broad sweep of human history, well as individual's lives. First we learn the story, then we learn the lessons that will benefit us in our lives. The worst thing modern indoctrination vs education has done is to eliminate both the lessons and the history by not teaching the whole history of the good, the bad, and the unflattering. Why? Because, every civilization has truly fallen from within and not from without from weakness and apathy and lethargy. This is why your audience is so drawn in by this podcast, and book reviews, and firsthand account interviews of modern history. We thirst for genuine knowledge, and appreciate both of you. May God bless you both, your families, and your businesses!

This brought new meaning to Grappling for me! I am from the Black Hills of South Dakota and I am of Lakota Decent. There are only a handful of us who participate in JiuJitsu! I’d love to bring grappling back to my Lakota People. 90% (PROBABLY HIGHER) of the women who grow up on the Rez suffer from abuse in their lives. I’m only a 4 stripe white belt, but I’d be willing to bet I’m the most qualified white belt there is. My coaches say I should not open a gym until I am a purple belt as per rule of Andre Galvao and Atos. I’d like to bring grappling back to my people. They think basketball is cooler (no joke), their talent can better serve themselves. Aho! Mitakuye Oyasin ps. I’d like to bring back the warrior games among the tribes 😂 thanks regardless, this meant a lot and I’m running with it. Take care.

Don’t sell you’re warrior spirit short. I once fought an entire Jiujitsu club in eastern LA county, by accident. Except for a little click in my left knee when it gets a little cold, I survived. I bouncer made the mistake of assaulting my friend at the door. Guess he learnt that from one of those Purple-belted, striped-boys. After I broke his nose I grabbed him tight around his neck and just kicked both of my own legs out from under me. I invented ground and pound that night and gave the entire club a free lesson, though most of the 10 or so members of the club were beating up other innocent customers. Open your gym screw em.

Such an important message in this one... that loss of strength and discipline by slow repeated concessions to weakness, that loss of freedom through incremental steps of government overreach, the slow loss of health from giving in to avarice over and over, that slow death of a 10,000 cuts. Though not American I always felt an affinity for the native Amercians and the what they lost.

Jocko, the United States Army Cavalry has a poem called. 'Fiddlers Green' that may be of some help. Halfway down the trail to Hell, In a shady meadow green Are the Souls of all dead Troopers camped, Near a good old-time canteen. And this eternal resting place Is known as Fiddlers’ Green. Marching past, straight through to Hell The Infantry are seen. Accompanied by the Engineers, Artillery and Marines, For none but the shades of Cavalrymen Dismount at Fiddlers’ Green. Though some go curving down the trail To seek a warmer scene. No Trooper ever gets to Hell Ere he’s emptied his canteen. And so rides back to drink again With friends at Fiddlers’ Green. And so when man and horse go down Beneath a saber keen, Or in a roaring charge of fierce melee You stop a bullet clean, And the hostiles come to get your scalp, Just empty your canteen, And put your pistol to your head And go to Fiddlers’ Green

This guy is part of the new breed of badass. Old school badasses like boxers, army men or even special forces guys like him are very good at what they do but they're rarely if ever articulate, conscious and intellectual about their pursuits. They know what to do, how to do it and why you do it but they were never good at putting it into words so it can be taught. I can only speak for boxers and other martial artists but the old breed taught by showing and expecting you to copy what they were doing til you got it right. Something I never learned or seem to have the capacity to learn. Whereas the new breed of badasses have the capacity to intellectually break down a movement into a science. Instead of jabbing and waiting for you to copy their jab, they would show a jab and break down every small movement and all of the variations you could do with them and then let you train while correcting your form.

I am gonna have to go witht the indians take on the story . I think That the battle ended in a suicide en mass by the cavalry troops. Since there was no POW's in the indian wars and because the indians mutilated their victims, many while still alive. I don't find it hard to believe in soldiers offing each other and then themselves in a pact made prior or while in battle. Many soldiers today would have done the same thing in a hopeless situation.
