I'm glad Jocko said humility is the most important leadership trait. Humility is something that if we don't learn it on our own early, life, God, karma, fate, however you want to look at it, WILL jump up and bite you in the 4th point of contact and teach it to you with 0 sympathy. Only after learning humility can you truly learn from your own mistakes or poor decisions.
@BuckF0eJiden
@BuckF0eJiden Жыл бұрын
As someone who had to learn this the hard way, my man is speaking absolute truth. Some kids have to learn that way, though. I was one of those kids. My parents were and continue to be fantastic. My faults are ones I earned myself lol. Whether you had good parents or not, you need to be humble enough to take responsibility for your own bullshit or you'll be stuck in your own bullshit.

Man I just love solid advice from a person who is living it. Without getting into details I have had some setbacks over the past couple of years and I nearly threw in the towel on my marriage after twenty years. It took some time for me to realize that everyone in the family, including my wife were looking to me for motivation and leadership and I had let them down. I slowly but surely decided to stop complaining and take control of our situation. Since then things have only improved for the family. I'm not saying that I can never be down or show emotion when it's impossible to hold back, but when your entire family looks to you for guidance and protection I have to play the part. Thanks for the podcast.

So on leadership. What I tell my 6 kids and staff in medicine. My kids All of them race and have a crew. You have VOCAL LEADERS & VISUAL LEADERS. MY experience visual leaders are the best LONG TERM! Understand Vocal leaders, lead with the Voice (Like politicians) and Visual leaders lead by Example/doing/demonstrating. I raced under sponsorship from 4-25yrs old. In 3 series. So I’ve had shop crews/road crews/pit crews I’ve had to keep focused & motivated. Early on I was a vocal leader. But I kept catching myself not following my own advice. I would preach Don’t DO A,B, or C and the next day I would do B & C. So I switched over. Just be a visual leader! Why? Because you never have to worry about not practicing what you preach. Getting people emotional or in a defensive posture unintentionally. -- also if your a introvert, you can be a fantastic leader! Years back; Out of 100 mentors, the one I respected and followed threw the gates of hell! (7 funerals of team mates or competitors killed in crashes) He literally only talked when giving advice. But even then he would do it in a quiet, 2minute sermon. He never would say “You will DO THIS”. He would always say “I would try doing it this way”. Which was code word for: you will do it this way or your fired! He was always extremely disarming and always made you feel, it was a choice or your idea. He was not egotistical, so he never wanted to appear like a MR.big shot! I use it in the hospital and firefighting. Mentoring gang members ive learned, True Alpha males will only respond to visual leadership. They will get fired or jailed before they respond to slick Willy or a vocal leader.

Never been in the military..... but in the past several years my thoughts are right along with what you're saying about watching for cover, a way out, situation awareness in public.....I don't share my thoughts cause others would think I'm weird or something.

Same here. I’m a 52 year old woman and I have always felt and acted this way. I don’t consider myself a civilian really.

It seems Jocko is thinking strategically. I think he’s considering a candidacy. But America isn’t ready yet.

Listening to people like you, Mr. Mike, and Mr. Jacko. Watching most of you military veterans. You guys are a untapped resource this country desperately needs. Especially if your characters really are as honorable as you portray. (No disrespect, just saying.) We need people like you guys. For our country to keep our Constitution intact as it should be. What i believe it should be, what i believe the founding fathers wantede. We need honorable warriors like you guys to step up and lead the way. I speak for myself. If i was with you guys i would stand beside you and let you guide me. You guys are awesome and thank you for your service. Edit: P.S. I don't see Jocko being a good President. Not because of his character or leadership abilities. Maybe a little about his leadership ability meaning. I cannot fathom him cowering behind his Secret Service in the middle of a assassination attempt. I would like to think he would be the kinda of President that would be fighting along side the SS, trying to neutralize the threat.

“Don’t let the highs get you too high and don’t let the lows get you too low. Stay steady as you can. And when you’re low say “good, that means a high is just down the road” “ I’ve heard that all my life. It’s easier said than practiced. But no less true.
