All you have to do is tap, and when applying a leg lock or submission just slowly do it. If you're in class or training you're not trying to hurt, so second it's sinched, just tap and you're good

Back in the mid nineties, when I training with Jean Jaques Machado, Gene LeBell would occasionally show up and teach the students some techniques and submissions. Gene would show us how to do a particular submission and then show us "another way" of doing the same submission, one that would cause much more pain. So he'd show the first way and say, "you could do it this way"; then show us the second way and say, "or you could do it this way, but that wouldn't be very nice." Gene was awesome!

These "nasty/mean things to do in Jiu-jitsu" are actually standard techniques in Catch-as-catch-can wrestling that was developed in England, working class men would get together after work and figure out ways to inflict massive amounts of pain on each other, the legendary MMA fighter Sakuraba was a student of Catch wrestling.

Watching this just adds to my respect for mma athletes, as these moves look relatively easy to do, especially the ezikiel choke at the end, yet we don’t see them used successfully, which tells me the constant awareness and defense for all things imaginable is insane, unless these moves are illegal, but I wouldn’t think so. Nice video.

I do the hobbler fairly often but didn't know it had a name. There's a few variations on the grip but no matter what, a reverse toe-hold causing an external rotation of the ankle is super-duper illegal in IBJJF competition and most comps generally.

One of the most painful thing I had done to me during grappling was while I was mounting my instructor gave me a "horse bite" or super hard pinch to the inside of my thigh and I literally screamed and couldn't jump off him fast enough . Spent the next 30 seconds trying to see if he had cut me or tore something off but there wasnt even much of a mark . I've since done it to several other people and got same result , Wasn't during a fight, just rolling but it's still pretty funny to do.

Thanks for another great vid. 2 comments though for the chokes. The First one is Very good Hail Mary tool .in case you found yourself on the ground .and it being so rarely seen if ever by most people . you can use it to cause debilitating damage to your would be attacker fast and run away, or quickly to go back up on your feet to face what is now very concerned co attackers. This is one of the best “wtf just happened “ moves . . Just learn how to do it fast . cause if not? He can use his other foot to kick you in the face . As for the Last one. My advice? don’t ever do that unless in mortal danger or a real pro. You can maim or kill with that.easily.

The other thing that should scare anybody paying attention is that Jocko is actually close with the Gracie family and has rolled with several of them. These are the people who invented the form as we know it, and I have to believe there are some "innovations" they keep for only those close to them. Nasty, painful innovations... The impulse to chuckle when causing pain seems to be a trait that sport brings out in its more advanced students. It will turn off some, but those who leave probably didn't really belong in a jiu jitsu dojo anyway. There is a warrior culture in such places, and it isn't for everyone.

4:30 "it feels like you're head is going to leave your body, I don't think that's going to happen but it feels like it." I looked at the physics of this after Connor tapped to it, apparently it takes 1000 foot-pounds of torque of more to break a person's neck by twisting. So it would be almost impossible with just arm strength. But fighters like these could certainly apply 250 foot-pounds with the arms alone, so it makes sense that the body freaks out when your a quarter of the way to your head being twisted off.

I don’t practice martial arts, I don’t know Jiu-jitsu. I sometimes watch UFC fight or back in the day K-1 fights. My question is, how do you remember all these technics in a match? Do you practice every day and for how many years? It’s like a 3D chess game, one misstake and you loose.

Got this question ...on that first one demonstrated where the knees are interlocked...the opponent other leg was right on target to kick down on your face....what about that?

Well in BJJ that is illegal.. However, in a fight, If an opponent made the mistake to kick me (it happened to me in Pride FC in Japan) well I would have to rip the knee out of socket. My opponent would scream and the match would me over. If he was on drugs and it was a real fight with no ref, his knee would be ripped apart and he would be unable to walk/chase after me, so I would walk away. The kick from the angle isn’t nice but wouldn’t knock me out

Just so you guys know, on 00:30, the word he is looking for is probably "Grosseiro". But his pronunciation of the other word and the translation are both perfect! Kudos for him for going for it! 🤣

I liked when Craig jones said Ezekiel can really frustrate anyone. He hurts the Adams apple but just grabs his bicep and eventually fits the front arm under his arm pit and squeezes.
