I come from ex communist country. experienced this first hand, and i am terrified by the mass of far left leaning youth in the west. I was amazed to see huge shops of e.g shoe brand "soviet" with a red star for a brand. Yeah so cool and hip. Not hoping that it is possible to convert any of these airheads, But you are doing good work. By the way, we are free from this only because of US military led and US won, cold war. Glad you cared.

My mother's grandfather, Ruvim, was "arrested," and sentenced to 25 years for owning a Holy Bible. This wasn't during WW2 or 1920. It was 5 years before the Soviet Union collapsed. He was freed after it had collapsed and spending 5 years in prison. His wife had married another man because life was too hard and he ended up forgiving her for it.

Echo should make a side channel as the “Connoisseur of Comfort”. He could do “un wrapping videos”, talk fashion, talk physiology, and put out extended enhanced videos. I love seeing Jocko and Echo together, but if Jocko can make Warrior Kid Podcasts happen, I know Echo has it in him to do some creative stuff on the side that would drive Jocko nuts on the channel. I see a flaw in his Hope argument. If I have nothing left to lose, and it causes me to fight for my life... that means that I have abandoned hope of mercy from the enemy and instead placed my hope in that aggressive action in the moment might possible change the outcome for the better of something even if not my own life. Its always hope that fuels. Its always hope that fuels, but what is it fueling? Hope that the enemy will have mercy fuels your compliance. Sometimes that's good, sometimes that's bad. Always be aware of where your hope is being placed and what the result of that will be.

Many in the West today are again looking to Marxist inspired govt because they don’t know what it was like and/or have been insulated from its effects when it ravaged the globe killing millions for nearly 100 yrs from 1918 in SE Asia, South America, Southern Africa and its parent countries of USSR, China and Eastern Europe. As Solzhenitsyn recounts, even in his own life, Marxism appealed to him and to those who feel and probably are powerless in society. It appears to be an offer to share in power but always, after much harm is done to others and without fail there is a reckoning and you are the one in the small dark basement room with no windows, one light bulb and a large drain in the middle.

I am now 76, and I read Solzhenitsyn in the 1970's. He won the Nobel Prise for literature. I am dismayed that the ideas that he warns about are creeping into Western Civilisation through post-modernism. The radical feminists, the identity politics people, the dominant voices of the Left/liberals are under the enchantment of Marxist/Maoist ideas. Unless opposed and defeated we are doomed to destroy the greatest prosperity of the greatest number that the world has ever known. I am now reading about Michel Foucault, the primary source of this poison - know your enemy. Equality of opportunity: good. Equality of outcome:bad.

Monitor your hope is so true. When the coronavirus lockdown first hit at first I kept hoping and believing that the next week things were going to get better... and then the lockdown would get extended and me and my whole family would be devastated. I was really depressed until I eventually just said I have to let this hope go or it will undo me, so I told my family we’re no longer going to look forward to when things will get normal, we’re just going to accept the reality as is, and when it does get back to normal, cool. But we’re not going to get our hopes up. Made all the difference.

I think, if you listen to the David Goggins JRE episode you can answer your own question. Goggins literally says he wasn't liked in the teams. Now why would that be? The way Goggins comes across is being focused on himself. He even says he divorced because he doesn't believe in compromising with his female partner. If he doesn't compromise and/or puts people down for not being like him and/or is not a good leader that will get you or your teammates killed. While Goggins is a badass and a good athlete, he could definitely benefit from acquiring some leadership traits. But he stayed faithful. How? I’d like to see that podcast and your thoughts on this book.

Proactive hope is good, escapist hope is harmful. Hoping to overcome a challenge is good, hoping to get out of the fight through no effort of yours can be morally and biologically deadly. This is why the Ancient Greeks say Hope was a dove in Pandora's box, which contained all the evils Zeus sent the mortals.

Just one correction, when Jocko said that if you take one grain from the state you would get a tenner(get 10 years), that's wrong. The right answer is YOU WOULD BE SHOT. If you were a mother and everyone in your family is STARVING and the state collected the grains and forgot one, even a rotten one, and you take it to your home to feed your children, YOU WOULD BE SHOT. In Ucrania, from 1930-1933, everyone was dying from hungry(also known as THE HOLODOMOR), the state put some ads saying to the people to NOT EAT THIER CHILDREN, because that happened... There's lot more, but you have to read the book, and be fortitude to keep going because is horrible to read those atrocities and not be sick to what happened in USSR. SO, READ THE DAMN BOOK, this will change your life, because you will learn how to fight an authoritarian regime without violence!
