In my opinion Jujitsukas should be measured by one standard....There ability and skill on the mat. It helped me beat alcoholism and bought to the surface parts of me which I'm proud of. It literally has something to offer everyone. Injuries normally occur from white belts going to hard to quick, very rarely from higher belts. I'm a huge believer in strong foundations and basics. After nearly 7 years i still drill basics and polish each section of basic techniques. The flowing and relaxed heaviness will come naturally. Good points and post Jocko. Cheers from down under.
@studiomonster-c9l Жыл бұрын
I keep training with inexperienced people who tell me they like getting beat up and that they want to be humble. It's weird and stupid. If you're humble, you don't have to tell people how humble you are and you don't go around telling others to be humble. And if you like getting beat up, you're misguided and you're putting yourself in danger and patting yourself on the back for it.
@studiomonster-c9l Жыл бұрын
Like jocko said, the point is to win, learn techniques and get better. You'll get humble naturally. You can't train yourself to be humble. You'll simply realize your limitations or you'll deny them. The culture of telling others to be humble is getting out of hand. It's annoying and stupid.
@af4396 Жыл бұрын
The other red flag with the "I like getting beat up" is that it doesn't give you confidence that they'll respect your body either. I tend to be very cautious with those people, and even in the cases where I dominate them, I don't "beat them up" to kind of show them that getting someone to submission is not the same as beating them up, or that you don't have to be explosive and careless to apply pressure and advance your position or sub.
@levismith8423 Жыл бұрын
Maybe they're phrasing it wrong without realizing it. "Getting beat up" to them could actually mean losing a roll or sparring session and seeing they've made mistakes. Not making excuses for these people though

Who are you to dictate to, to impose on and interfere with others, who are you to abuse and use them ....Little man ? Let me demonstrate then a terrible thing happens, the big little man is someone no longer. "See little man " ! I’ve trained judo and nogi jiujitsu for about three years so far. Personally I’d recommend doing both dude. If you can find a gym or dojo that offers bjj or nogi and a wrestling or judo class go for it! If I had to choose only one, I’d go with nogi jiujitsu because there aren’t as many rules. In judo you can’t grasp the legs for a takedown anymore because of the new rule set (which I think is absolutely ridiculous) whereas jiujitsu allows any kind of takedown/sweep but depending on the gym you choose, (meaning if the school is more oriented to wrestling and MMA vs guard playing and sport bjj), you might not train takedowns very frequently which is a major issue as far as self defense is concerned. I hope this helped you!

There are several articles and videos in which Jocko says that besides a gun, he believes BJJ is the best option for self-defence

Send the arrogant jerks to a Krav Maga studio, using jiu jitsu on 3 attackers at once will build some humility for the B-Jay-Jay instructor. The groin WILL be restomped! Unless the instructor uses switchblade-jitsu.

No way I'm going half speed with any adult. We learned as teenagers in puberty that there were no more play or sport fights -- it's all fun until somebody gets hurt, which is usually real quick. Just avoid aggressive people, and gyms or dojos where they hang out. Being able to win a fair fight is meaningless. Nobody fights fair. There's more than one reason to choose to fight, wrestle, whatever you call it. One is because some like hurting other people. Maybe that's only 5%, but I suspect more. One is sense of insecurity. Maybe that's only 33%, but I suspect more. If somebody says they train in martial arts, I avoid them. Sooner or later they will want to show you.
