Episode twenty. I have listened to each one and some more than once. Each one leaves me with encouragement and challenges. The endings. I don’t know if Jocko plans the endings of each of these pod casts but dang! Powerful words Mr. Jocko and Echo.

When you were reading the story of torture at the beginning I thought it was an excerpt that I had missed when reading George Orwell's book 1984. The information and insightgiven on Chinese war philosophy is intriguing.

This past March I had surgery on my rotator cuff, bicep, and labrum. May, I asked the doc when I can take BJJ. He had a look that was hilarious. :-| That was the look. Apparently, I can't train this summer. I was a bit too optimistic. According to the doc, a year...MAYBE 2!!! I'm getting after what I can. Physical Therapy. I have all but one of their devices at home. This ol' guy is GETTIN' SOME!!! My goal is 1 year. I'll be 52 and training as a newbie white belt. Lookin' forward to it!!!

I think BJJ is a great sport, but we do it as a family because jui jitsu is essential to life situations.. The fundamentals and lessons can be applied in parenting and marriage ( I.E push and pull). One of the greatest advantages in my opinion is the ego deflation. That helps everyone.

I love this podcast, but I don't agree with Echo when he says that children turn out bad because of their parents. I'm a great example, whereas my parents haven't raised me or my siblings bad at all and one of my siblings just went off the rails. This was because of her friend choices.

I know people are surprised by his writings and how they contrast to modern China but 99% of Maoist guerrillas all over the world today hate the government of China. They are Maoists because they try to follow the writings he wrote NOT WHAT THEY DID. Maoists, Marxists and Marxists Leninists don’t try to mimic these peoples lives; they follow the theory, methods and analysis fought in then writings. I was shocked when I started reading marxist writings because it was all really intelligent and the predictions they made about how capitalism would evolve was so on point. It wasn’t how it was described to me by movies and my teachers. Most Marxism is just an economic and philosophical examination of capitalism and power structures. Very little of it say what the end result should look like and it stresses having to adapt and evolve to meet material conditions. It teaches you how to use an analysis of power structures and how to do things like examine how opposing forces interact with each other. This is why so many people claiming to be Marxists are so different from each other. There are Marxists that believe in taking state power (often called Marxist Leninists or Marxist Leninist Maoists), and ones that don’t think that you should take state power at all (libertarian Marxists). It also can sounds more complicated to people because there are Marxists that are communists and Marxists that are still socialists but believe markets; for example Tito from Yugoslavia. People wouldn’t take Marx so seriously and often dedicate and sacrifice everything to trying to make a better world (or avoid the consequences Marx warned about so many years ago that are starting to confront us today)
