Man, I take my hat off to you. Your talent really shows the versatility of this piece! I have had the custom dark on my Selmer Reference 54 for a couple of years and love it. Purchasing one for my first tenor was therefore a bit of a no brainer for me this week.

Man, I really appreciate that ❤. I regularly play on a DV because most of my gigs are pop and rock blues stuff

Dude, I LOVE your channel! I was diehard Jodyjazz until I watched your Datta and Jumbo Java reviews. I’m mouth cannon all the way these days. Appreciate you bro

@@bluessax5089 that thing is $400, maybe somewhere down the road when gigs come back. You get a great dark sound with that. Thanks for watching my channel.

@@Sirvalorsax Say Adrienne I'd sure love to year you play on the Jody Jazz HR*. I bet you'd own that piece and it's half the price of the Custom Dark. Peace

Jody Jazz never disappoints and honestly these days its all i use. That being said...I hate to get too caught up in the nostalgia of the pieces. Like is it really noticably different from the regular HR or the Giant? I'd love some Side by side comparisons.
@bluessax50894 жыл бұрын
I was thinking of doing side by side, then i figured it best to keep them separate. I LOVE seeing mouthpiece reviews so i wanted to be sure to try my best to demonstrate the range of what it can do. I feel as if the custom dark is fatter, more spread and breathier? not quite as loud or as cutting as the standard HR.

Thanks for the great video review and superb play testing. I bought and received one of these excellent mouthpieces in an 8 opening about 3 weeks ago. To use the current vernacular of some - it’s ahhsome! (or should that be arsome?) Easily the best mouthpiece I have ever owned and, for me, works really well with Rigotti Gold 2 1/2 M and Select Jazz 2H reeds. The rest of my tenor mouthpieces now sit idly in a drawer. No excuses - just buy one, it really is very good
@bluessax50894 жыл бұрын
Haha! Wonderful comment! Fortunately for me I have no way to send it back to Jody since all this virus mess is going on! 😏 That piece is like the Jody jazz hard rubber but five times better! The vast majority of my gigs are more popish but who knows, I may be able to buy one. I agree with you 100%

Sounds awesome! Do you know how it compares to other dark pieces like a vandoren V16 or something?
@bluessax50894 жыл бұрын
I actually don’t. My main take away was that it has a more “Jazzy” sound than the Standard Jody Jazz hr. I would say if you like the JodyJazz hard rubber and you are a jazz musician then I would definitely go for the custom dark. My main piece is the jumbo Java so I’m now on the opposite side of the spectrum

Ray Pianoman you are too kind Sir! 🤓. If you’re mainly playing “old school” jazz then I strongly recommend the Custom Dark. Best all around is the standard hard rubber piece though. I played the standard HR on every gig for years and years!
