Palmer was made the highest paid player in the NFL then had some unfortunate injuries, but still received multiple high draft picks for him. Did they ruin Akili Smith? Na, that guy would not have succeeded for any NFL team. Jeff Blake? No he far exceeded his expectations. That covers the last 25 years of Bengals' Qb's. @ghostdukevladamir51014 жыл бұрын
The difference between the greats and Manziel was that he wanted the play to break down, he was eager to deviate from the script. That's not doing well when things go wrong, that's hoping or allowing things to go wrong so you can leave the pocket, because that's where he felt most comfortable. He could get away with that at a college level but never in the NFL. These guys will stick to the script but if it all goes to shit they're exceptionally good at coming out on top. Not the same.
@chrismo52124 жыл бұрын
Johnny didnt look for plays to break down. Watch any game where a&m blew out their opponents and you see a qb running th offense as usual. You really can't assume a qb will be great because they look good when the play breaks down. I think jaws (Ron jaworski) said it best on a Monday night game. "If you're going to be a star in this game you gotta have a little luck" My assessment is that "luck" comes from chemistry. QBs who spend too much time making commercials (cough...baker mayfield) usually dont have that luck with their wide outstretched or the lineman when the play breaks down. You might say "what do you mean lineman?" The clip of Russel Wilson at the end of kollmanns video is an example. The lineman know the qb enough to throw an impromptu clip to bail russ out so he can make that throw. That's why russ makes the play. This is why I always knew that eli was making a great move not going to SD because they just dropped an allstar in brees and until recently just proved they are a franchise that stix with a guy so he can build that chemistry with his team and become a great in the league

Manziel would heave prayer balls up to the most dominant college receiver of the last decade in Mike Evans.
@12jswilson4 жыл бұрын
Manziel wasn't very good in structure and his "under pressure" stats were wildly inflated by throwing up prayers to be answered by Mike Evans clowning college defenders. He didn't have a Mike Evans in Cleveland and NFL dbs would punish it more even if he did.

Got Peyton and Brady mixed up. Yes Peyton was smart, but Brady has a genius mind and a lesser arm than Peyton. So I'd say suprising athleticism(I haven't seen a 40 time). Elite arm and the potential to quickly learn and have the read-making ability of Brady.

I think the thumbnail is a little misleading. The differentiating factor with Mahomes is the ridiculous throws only he can make. Burrow doesn't really have the arm to throw Mahomes' 40-yard lasers the way he does

I mean, no? He's more of a field general type player. He definitely isn't like Patrick mahomes. I'm not saying he's bad but he doesn't have a strong arm. He also isnt as much of a scrambler as Russel Wilson. He's more like Dak Prescott or, honestly, almost exactly like Mariota. Sort of scrambler but also pretty could short and medium accuracy. He isn't much of a deep passer though.

I remember seeing a video a long time ago on NFL network of Carson Palmer and Chad Johnson talking about the throwing into space/being met with the ball in space versus reading individual defenders. Replacing blitzers with the b-ball, And it was similar to how Brett was breaking down Joe.

Playing like Russell Wilson and Patrick Mahomes against college DBs (who have reached a new low in terms of quality over the last few years) is exactly that. It all goes out of the window the moment a rookie QB sees Aaron Donald or Bosa coming straight at him like a missile with very bad intentions.

I think a big thing that helps young quarterback success is location. Not so much the weapons, but o line, and a huge emphasis on coaching. Just look at Russ, Lamar, Mahomes, Wentz, or Goff vs Darnold, Mayfield, Rosen, etc in just recent drafts. I get a lot more goes into it than that, but as a Bengals _fan_ I'm hoping we have the staff and system around Burrow that will allow him to live to his potential.

I don't comment on YT often, but gotta tell ya your videos are quality & appreciated. Terrific analysis, breakdown, explanations, speed of presentation, voice quality, content focus, etc. Thank you Brett! I learn more about the intracies of sports from your videos than years of watching them. One question...would you ever consider doing videos on Futbol/Soccer, both International &/or domestic (with MLS)? We (USA) are still far behind the rest of the world for more obvious & visible reason(s) as missing the last World Cup was the wake-up call US needed to refocus on the grassroots youth movement on up, farm systems, & addressing the ridiculous pay-to-play model that has largely led to our current state in the sport. It's the World's most popular sport for a reason & would be more exciting when more understood & accepted.

Always felt Russell Wilson was his best comparison; leadership intangibles and well-like by teammates, ability to slide up in the pocket and gain yards if the play breaks down, always keeps his eyes downfield, and throws a super catchable deep-ball.
