Joe sounds like a normal person when he speaks, but a rich golden voice emerges when he sings.

He's arguably the purest male rock and roll voice ever, I was glad I got turned on to him after Woodstock myself and a few black-and-white friends were debating great soul, rock and pop artist and Joe Cocker, Janis Joplin were unanimous. Need I say more.

I grew up living a few streets away from the Cocker family and my parents knew his parents and Joe. I met Joe a few times when he was playing in small clubs in Sheffield in the 60s.

Joe’s voice was so raw and powerful especially at Woodstock. Iconic and such a part of rock history. Glad I was there and a part of it. Will live in my memory with love and appreciation.

Billy's brilliance is documented forever in THE BEATLES GET BACK docu-series - when he shows up at the studio just to day hi to The Beatles and John tells Billy that the songs they are rehearsing need keyboards and that normally they would overdub them but since they plan to play the new songs live they need a keyboardist and John asks him right then and there if he would like to play and Billy says yes - and he creates keyboard parts right on the spot, hearing the songs for the first time - no charts for him to follow - no one telling him what to play -- and 53 years later you hear those tracks and his keyboard parts work perfectly within the context of the songs -- RIP Billy and Joe -- PS - i went to see Steve Winwood headlining at Madison Square Garden with Joe Cocker opening and Joe and his band stole the night, what an amazing set and Joe did not phone it in he gave his all - a great live performer!

I saw Joe open for Tom Petty in Oakland. Carlos Santana was about 7 rows down from me watching the show. I could have watched Joe all night but in hindsight who would have known that both of these rock giants would be gone years later? Miss them both so much but I feel honored to have lived in their time and seen them on stage!! ❤️

Joe Cocker was discovered by producer Denny Cordell, a guy with great musical acumen and a shrewd businessman. But upon further review, "You Are So Beautiful," was produced by Jim Price, a trumpet player from Ft. Worth, Texas best known for playing on the "Sticky Fingers" sessions for the Stones. See "Bitch."

How many performers sing songs written by other people? So, so many. If not for that, people like Diane Warren and Mutt Lang would have very different careers. Your premise is that all worthy singers perform their own compositions rather than interpret and generate other's pieces. A silly argument, indeed.
