Amazing and definitely “of its time”. Saw it back in the day and it scared the shit out of me. The fantasy sequences are quite surreal and imaginative. Deserving of its reputation.

One of my all-time favorite Canadian films! I always put on my 3-D glasses when he says "put the mask on now" and then I trip out to the ultra surreal visions...

Growing up in Texas in the 80's, we didn't have much but we treasured the little things in life. Every few summers in the 80's, 7 11 gas stations used to promote getting "your 3D glasses " to see this vintage film, The Mask. It was preceded by 2 3 Stooges comedy shows.

Great to see the always knowledgable and enthusiastic Joe Dante commenting on genre film history ! I've seen a few write up on this movie ( tied to its new release on home video ) and nobody really mentions it but the mask in the original comic book "The Mask" looks a lot like the mask in this movie.

It was a big deal in 1982 in Phoenix AZ - they did a big stunt to go to Circle-K and get your 3D glasses for the show which at that time was on TV-15. I remember seemingly everything stopped for this re-vewing.

I wonder if this in some way inspired the comic book of the same name, which was later adapted into the more popular Jim Carrey movie we all know of today.

Actually, the mask does look REALLY similar to how it looked in the book. It wasn't skeletal, but it had the same stony, crystal texture.

The Howling(1981) and Gremlins(1984) are good movies. I wonder if this film inspired The Mask comic books from Dark Horse?

The movies that Trailers From Hell reviews owe you guys a lot. I'll now go hunting for this movie based only on what Joe Dante just said in this video presentation. Fantastic. Thank you.

I would have loved to see this in the theater in the original format. TV doesn't do this film justice.

I have THE MASK on order. I have an 8ft wide movie screen with a Benq 3D vp, 50,000 to 1 contrast ratio. I also have recently bought Joe's THE HOLE in 3D and thoroughly enjoyed it, especially the jester clown doll. Joe's movie is thoroughly recommended.

One of the most intriguing VHS boxes I had ever seen as a kid. I never rented it, unfortunately. From reading the box ( from Rhino, I believe. They put out EVERYTHING cool when I was a kid), the hype made this movie seem like it was so horrifying and that it was a lost film because of all the trouble it caused, etc. etc...

The mask looks like the mask that gramps from “house 2 the second story” was buried in!?! I wonder if it is the mask and they payed tribute to this movie or just something similar

Poor Dr. Radin...THE MASK takes over his life and he becomes a vicious murderer. But he shows a woman THE MASK near the end of the movie. He says,"What do you see?" She says,"I see NOTHING,NOTHING".
