Incidentally it is important to know that Joe Louis lost four of his prime years to the Second Wold War. It is always mentioned that Muhammad Ali lost three and a half years due to his ban for not serving in Vietnam. Rightly or wrongly Ali lost significant years during his prime. Louis not only served the American Forces during the Second World War he also lost four of his prime years.

Jason Strom Joe did what he thought was right. And it’s hard to say standing up to Nazi Germany was wrong. The way Joe was treated was wrong, but his decision was still the right one. And Ali’s decision NOT to serve was right as well.
@lyndiablack90984 жыл бұрын
@Jason Strom You are correct, Jason. He was on the WRONG SIDE, but he didn't know. The sentiments of the country at that time, made people want to serve their country, due to Pearl Harbor. I am not going to into other certain factors, plus, I believe, you have done the research, to know that Joe, WAS ON THE WRONG SIDE, THIS COUNTRY KICKED HIM IN THE ASS.

Fast precise efficient and powerful. I really admire his calmness in the ring. No animalistic anger even in the fiercest engagements. Just devastating and precise punching. I read somewhere his secret was sparring a lot with smaller faster opponents to quicken his reflexes.

Then Ali started criticising Joe’s opponents and the “bum of the month club”. Joe never said a word, until Ali finally shut up. Then Ali said, “what have you got to say for yourself Joe?”, quick as a flash, Joe said “you’d be in the club!”

Actually, Ali is quite different in his approach and style than those two and there are some specific techniques of Louis's that would bother Ali more than they did those two as a result. Walcott in particular is very, very different from Ali. Ali was evasive, he was hard to hit because of speed and reflexes and foresight. Walcott _made you miss_ by misleading you with half-beat attacks and off-rhythm fighting. Ali was never really one for that, he was very much a fighter who settled into his rhythm. Ali on his best night vs Louis on his best night - which incidentally would not be his fights with Conn or especially Walcott - would be a very tough fight for both fighters.

Not really people like foreman tyson Joshua lyle wilder definitely punch harder
@pascalscherr52065 жыл бұрын
@@shaukatali-zq9ym true but louis was smaller than them. He weighed in at about 199 lbs against Schmelling, under heavyweight minimum today. I understand there isn't a maximum weight at HW, but pounds still matter and AJ weighs in around 250 lbs. That's about five weight classes worth of pounds above Louis. That said, Wilder only has about 10 lbs on Louis, and he certainly hits harder in my opinion
@Onamission17455 жыл бұрын
Hardest puncher argument is pointless unless the guy throwing the punch can actually hit an opponent. It should be "who is the best puncher" instead. Joe Louis really stuck it to walcott

@irtazaahmed24355 жыл бұрын
DeputyFuttBuck as the sport evolves heavyweights increases in size as new diet plans and new forms of exercise make them stronger and fitter but what you need to keep in mind is that heavyweights of Louis days were all pure and steroids were non-existent. So they were all natural with hours and hours spent running along the rough roads while eating very bare minimum as dark skinned people were discriminated against meaning their pay was literally nothing compared to what white fighters of them days were payed. To conclude, Louis p4p hits much harder and accurate then steroid Joshua and windmill wilder.

Baer is a bum. But absolutely Louis was the best heavyweight ever. Schmelling bought the absolute perfect fight and is one of the most under probably the most underrated pure boxer in history and he was the only one who ever beat him anywhere near his prime. Muhammad Ali would have been knocked out probably eight rounds if he they both bought in their Prime. I think Max Schmeling would have found a way to beat Muhammad the draft Dodger Ali as well in his prime.

While it's not fair to match or compare boxers from two different eras, in my opinion Joe is higher than Ali on the list of the greats, also most boxing historians rate Joe as the greatest of all time. Ali was great and his style of boxing was unique - not looking for big knockout punches like most of the heavyweights in that era - instead outboxing, taunting and beating his opponents into submission. He also got a lot of attention for his outspokeness and activism. However when it comes to sheer boxing abilities, ability to read your opponent (which is key), tenancity and the ability to get the job done, Joe takes it......btw this was a time when boxers sometime have double digit fights in a year unlike what we have now.

Louis is a scary ko artist. He may look kinda awkward at times to modern fans like wilder but man that right hand is devastating. As far as I know nobody who was hurt in a fight by Louis ever recovered. He finished them all once hurt. He was the ultimate finisher. As I heard one boxing historian say.. if joe hurt you he got you out of there.

If Joe hadn't attempted the comeback, he would have retired 58-1, and this in an era where it wasn't uncommon for a HW champion to have double digit losses. They say Sugar Ray Robinson is the greatest boxer ever, but to me, Louis' style is more appealing. His footwork and ability to get in position so quickly and to throw those bombs from close range is unparalleled, imo.

I hope it did because Muhammad Ali's a draft dodging cowardly bum in the most overrated boxer ever strategy turn them into a drooling vegetable he just was retarded the only thing he ever did in his career was completely just take George Foreman's entire career away from him until he was in his forties. The draft Dodgers biggest highlights are what is trash talkin out of the ring his draft dodging him being a part of two fixed fights where Sonny Liston threw the title away because the mob ran him fuck Muhammad the draft Dodger. The brown bomber and Rocky Marciano light years ahead of Muhammad Ali. Max Schmeling in his prime would have found a way to beat Muhammad draft Dodger as well and let's not forget that in the fight of the century it wasn't even close revisionist like to pretend it was closed but Frazier dominated that first fight like just dominated Len Ken Norton Dominator them broke his jaw made him look like a fucking bum which is all he really was was a bum with a lot of incredible cardio and a hell of a chin but that's in that ruined his life you know he was a drooling vegetable for at least 38 years because of his stupid ass rope-a-dope. The shame Frazier didn't take the series because then there would be no argument at all for Ali at to even be in the top 5
@aaronbradley32325 жыл бұрын
@@anonym58063 that's a shame I hate that overrated draft Dodger. Joe Louis was the greatest of all time. We all have our favorites, but it’s not fair to compare a fighter of one era to a fighter of a different era. The world changes. There are no time machines. Endless circular arguments of who would beat who don’t accomplish anything real. No matter what, in the end we’re left with records, accomplishments, who you competed against and under what circumstances. Louis won more fights, won more rounds, defended his title more, knocked out more opponents and reigned as champion longer than any heavyweight champion ever. He was indeed a mechanical marvel. When it comes to perfect skills, Joe Louis is the shining example.He is an American hero! As far as heavyweight champions, Joe Louis was the “Michael Jordan” of boxing. I think it’s sad that to many young people don’t know or never knew what he did and how he did it.

I was really shocked with your decision to have Walcott II in there. While I wouldn't do it, I didn't see it coming, and it was refreshing. It is an underrated Louis performance though. People tend to get hung up on the first fight.
