I met Chris about 8 or 10 years ago at the Bristol Rhythm and Roots Festival in Bristol, Tennessee. Bristol is right on the Virginia/Tennessee line and is known as the the “birthplace of country music”. He was in a bluegrass band at the time and is one of the most down to earth good hearted people I’ve ever met. He is a legit country boy from the mountains of Kentucky who made it big. He is a real “good ole boy.” He frequented this festival every year as just another guy in a bluegrass band and fan of mountain music, blues, and rock and roll like the rest of us. Bristol is about 45 minutes from my home in Southwest Virginia. I was born and raised here in the Appalachian mountains. (Right in the circle of East Kentucky, Southwest Virginia and East Tennessee.) Despite what television portrays and many “city folks” may say about us hillbillies, I am a successful, 27 year old college educated woman. I have traveled the world. I love my mountains, my people, and my culture. It is my home. (Ralph Stanley the bluegrass musician from the movie “Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?” who wrote and recorded the song “Man of Constant Sorrow” his home-place is 12 miles from my home. June Carter Cash’s family is 30 mins away in the ‘Carter Fold’, and Loretta Lynn’s ‘Butcher Holler’ is a little over 50 miles away in Van Lear, Kentucky.) I am not a fan of contemporary country or what I like to call “pop country” but I love Chris. He is a great representation of the people and the culture of our area. He’s one of us.

Artemisprime Prometheusblack the music is a huge part of the culture and it tells our story. Stories of life, love, heartbreak, struggle, and success. We are a pretty unique melting pot all our own here in the mountains. Scottish, Irish, Polish, Hungarian, German etc.. many people moved their families inward towards the mountains and began to work the land, whether it was farming, coal mining, on the railroad, or in the logging industry. We also make the best mountain whiskey, or moonshine.

Joe is an amazing interviewer. The guy is stoic and guarded but he was able to get a great interview out. Very nice!

Love when Joe shows the video of Gary Clark Jr. to Chris, and you can see Chris analyze and start vibing to the music.

I met Jamey a couple years ago with my girlfriend and a buddy of mine. One of the nicest people I've ever met and he was just as eager to meet us as we were to meet him and he wanted to have an actual conversation while we were just trying to shake his hand and get out of his hair.

Loving the versatility of the people Joe’s talking to. Everybody gets something from it. Mind you, I do imagine ‘a lil bourbon’ in Chris’ case is a shit-tonne-let’s-ride-out-into-the-sunset-and-howl-at-the-moon amount of bourbon.
