I know I'm 4 years late to the party but I just gotta say... Speaking as a sober man, this guy lives in the solution and is really an inspiration to people in recovery. I actually am not talking about him as an actor, I'm talking about his program. I can hear it in the way he talks, in the way he let's go and unmarries himself from "THINGS." Very few claw marks here. It's amazing. NO SEEK, NO FIND. Awesome bother.

I just rewatched Tropic Thunder, and jumped into the rabbit hole of RDJ. Sober one year, last month, and I love your comment. I know it’s the 11th tradition, but I would love to hear his experience in the rooms. Get him into a speaker meeting. Would be amazing to hear his path into sobriety. Congrats on yours ❤️

It wasn't JUST for Joe. I think we all needed it. This interview was the antithesis of the famous interview where RDJ walks out bc the reporter couldn't stop talking about his past drug use. You can tell both Robert (calling himself "bob" is just weird to me) and Joe both respect each other and it was honest and organic. I wish it was longer, but doing a press tour doesn't lend itself to 3 plus hour interviews. I hope he does come back bc dude has lived enough life for 3 lifetimes

No offense, but Jamie's a producer. Jamie's got to be controlling the flow via the switcher, and when he speaks it is to bring information they need so that they don't have to stop conversation. Jamie is a professional, and that's why he's off camera and only speaks when spoken to. I don't know if Jamie ever worked in radio as a producer, but he behaves like a broadcast professional.

I met RDJ back in the late 90s when they were filming US Marshalls. He came to the local theater in Paducah KY one Wed evening. Pretty slow day typically there. About 630 pm he comes on and asks me about the NO Firearms sign on the door and asks if his "assistant" needs to stay in the car. I said everyone in KY is usually armed so come on in. He watches about 30 min of the movie he came to see and comes out to the lobby. He interacted with so many people, took pictures(we had a Polaroid camera in the office), signed autographs, called peoples friends, etc. He was truly an awesome guy. He didn't leave till almost 11 pm. I've been a fan ever since and am thrilled that he finally was able to beat his demons.

Here years late he’s so wholesome. Robert Downey jr. broke down outside my hometown and was super respectful to the old farmers who helped him. It was a such a cool story. Love this. Favorite interview

in the mid 1980's I worked on my first theatrical show, "Fraternity" in New York, as the property master/prop runner during the performances. Robert Downey Jr. was 19 years old and one of the 5 member, all male cast. I believe this was also his first show (at least in NYC). There was no denying his unique, talented, eccentric essence. He was intense as an actor and practiced his "rituals" before each show. As Joe has noted, Downey always brings "himself" to the performance as he brilliantly did then, right out of the gate. I knew he was special and bound for stardom. I could also sense his vulnerability - everyone could, - and that was to his advantage. He was then and remains a gift to the arts.

@@Brisingam He meditated - and that was in the '80's and smoked clove cigarettes. I can't remember what else but he was clearly on a different level of awareness than most 19 year olds. Very special.

@@charlottee212 Thank you! I love theater stories (The Group in 30s, Williams, Kazan). I guess it was very different in 80s. Or not?

"Fraternity" and ran props during the run. I had a hideous mess to clean up after each performance since the premise of the play was about wild college students doing what wild college students do to this day (total debauchery, ha!). I went on to work on over 100 shows (even B'way) in almost every capacity and with many brilliant actors (Geraldine Page, F. Murray Abraham, David Hyde Pierce to name (drop) a few), writers (Terrance McNally i.e.) and directors who went on to great heights.. My son , who I brought to opening night parties and rehearsals, was a teen then and has been inspired to great success of his own in the entertainment industry. I could not have asked for a more rewarding career path for him - there is nothing that compares to performing for a live audience and the emotional /familial growth nurtured by the whole production experience. You can't imagine how satisfying it is to communicate with others passionate about theater. Thanks for prompting this interaction and resurfacing wonderful memories! PS I recalled that Robert Downey Jr also did vocal warmup exercises.
