Guaranteed he wears a fuckload of sunscreen and smothers himself in aloe baths after. I briefly lived in Oceanside, California and went to a surf camp during the summer. Being 13 I figured I was good for sunscreen after a week and didn’t wear any one day. This would be hell on most normal people, but I’m a ginger and obviously this curse when combined w being on a surfboard baking in the sun which was intensified at least double being inches away from the water made for quite the sunburn!! As much as I tried lying to my mum; who was more than a little bit mad after specifically telling me to reapply every hour, that I had only missed one application she somehow didn’t buy it. I realized why when we got home and I saw in the mirror what was too painful to touch.... blisters all over(being a ginger is painful enough without blisters covering your soulless eyes, nose and face. Being a mother her anger turns to fear as we were Canadian, and not legal so no hospital. She had aloe plants all over the house for little cuts and scrapes but she made me lie down; chug glass after glass of water and put aloe soaked cloths on n my face changing them hourly w ones from the fridge. Used all the neighbours aloe as well. The next morning I woke at at 4am hoping I could go back and watch the surf camp from the sidelines only to discover the blisters had completely disappeared and I was fine. By afternoon I was allowed back and was on the water..... in full 52 coverage, applying every hour by the camp nurse. Just saying that aloe is a miracle plant(it was a miracle, of sorts, to me)

in the begginning of my drumming days as a student I was lucky enough to be around older players and they all had the same mantra: get the skills (all the rudiments/right tempo/learn melody and theory), and then you wont have to burn yourself with excessive/useless hours of practice your instrument.

the thing about people like Slater and Phelps and Jordan and Woods is that one can imediatelly notice the ire, the gusto, the power and the hunger for glory in their eyes, there's no mistaken in assuming that they were trainned by a very early age in becoming masters

Crazy how different lives can be, hearing people do things that they like or mabye even love is inspiring and hopeful. Most people I know including myself end up in low pay low skill wage trap jobs where you just make enough to stay and put up with more than normal bullshit because everyone else pays even less and nobody wants anyone who doesn’t already have years of experience already. I hope to figure out what to do like these guys found surfing,comedy, martial arts.

Slater has lived the ancient Greek life of well-being: dedication, consistent excellence, and mastery in his craft. You can just see it in his presence
@Waterman100010 ай бұрын
“Lived Ancient Greek life” 😂. Okay then. Well, you’re right if you mean a life devoted to self-worship like many ancient Greeks who only lived for the moment. Ask his daughter how it felt to have a father abandon her and fatherhood to pursue his dreams. No doubt the guy is the greatest COMPETITION surfer (unlike guys like Kai Lenny or Laird Hamilton who are all around watermen) who’s ever lived, but a life devoted to nothing but self, while being very much in keeping with ancient Greeks, is hardly virtuous.

I think his opinion on longevity is the best I’ve ever heard. Obviously he is a great athlete. And all that means is that he has been athletic since a kid and hasn’t stopped. And with age comes skill, where you exert less energy doing much less and achieving much more, of which is called skill. Or in other words. Do enough to be healthy and youthful. And don’t ever go 100%… Like a car, if you do 65 constantly and just make the correct decisions of what lanes to switch too and when. Of which is the skill. You’ll not only beat the guy racing you doing 80, then slowing to 40 then revving to eighty and slamming too 40 again. But his car will retire while yours hits 200 thousand miles with regular maintenance. It’s like that no shit, that’s common sense thing that’s not common lol

Wrong. Laird is an all-around waterman, big wave charger, and innovator/inventor (not Slater). And Laird is really above and beyond contests frankly; he doesn’t enter them and hasn’t since he was very young. He realized they’re a hotbed of bureaucracy and politics-and also that they’re such a limited and narrow slice of the waterman’s world of ocean sports.
