I am a second generation native Californian. I left 2 years ago. Between the crime, drugs and cost of living it became undoubtedly. I was homeless for many years, I didn't live in tent city's. I actually went camping in the woods in summer, desert in the winter. I moved to Georgia, lower cost of living. A lot less crime, in my area. Jobs plentiful, haven't been homeless since. California has slowly become a shithole.

Yep. It's been like that for such a long time. People just want to talk about the weather but don't realize that LA provides a numerous amount and wide range of services for the homeless. Much more than other cities outside of California. I worked for the DHHS during and after the recession and we ran into so many problems. The best answer we have is more services but the surveys we did showed that homelessness increased the next year after more services were provided. It was hard to keep track of the homeless population because a lot of those folks have no proper identification. I'd say about 2/3 of the 1000 or so that I personally interviewed were originally from other states. A LOT from the Midwest and Texas. Determined that it was because they don't provide any services aside from Salvation Army and church organizations.

Ri true. But the thing is we are devaluing homeless people.... even saying “homeless people” just doesn’t sit right with me for some reason. It feels as If you separate them from “regular people”; there are cases that if you provide a person who doesn’t have a home with one, a good job, and mental health services they will do better and help boost the economy because you don’t have to keep launching homeless services and shelters that cost more money than it does to just house someone in a nice home.... I don’t get why these governments are so greedy.

My grandfather and grandmother were homeless in LA in the 50s with 5 kids. They lived in a park that had a creek or stream running through it. My grandfather was on foot every day going to his part time job as a maintenance man, he was able to provide for his family minimum necessities and saved the majority of his earnings to get bus tickets for his family to go back to Kansas. Then he was able to be a farm hand and then became a taxi driver in Wichita then went to be a ship mate on a tug boat on the Mississippi. He eventually was able to reside permanently in Kansas. He raised 10 children. All of which have served in the military and or Graduated from University.

Amazing Story
@August_Fields
@August_Fields 5 жыл бұрын
I was homeless for 2 years in Atlanta, Georgia. I avoided everywhere where homeless people congregate. I learned to navigate to different coffee shops and libraries everyday. I pitched a tent at night on the property of a business that never knew I was there. The only thing I kept from my old life was my laptop, that's what kept me connected to the world. It took a lot of effort to stay clean and groomed, but for the most part people didn't know I was homeless. People would ask me if I was going on vacation (backpack and luggage in tow). I'd just say yes. There are a lot of homeless people who are not crazy or drug addicted, but you won't see them. The ones you see have all lost hope of ever getting off the street. When you lose hope, despair comes next and it's all downhill from there.

@August_Fields 5 жыл бұрын
@@TrailerTrashThorne I only commented about this because I think a lot of people think there is a big difference between themselves and the homeless people they see on the street and for their sake I hope they never have to realize there isn’t a difference. Literally every single person I thought cared about me and whom I cared for turned out to be a fake. I came through the experience and I’m glad it happened to me, because it gave me the opportunity to see what is really important in day to day life. I learned how to tell the difference between who is important to me and who isn’t. It’s an important lesson, but one which everyone could do without. Today, I have a good life, but I don’t take anything for granted.

@@August_Fields Man, I have Federix Ataxia. It's like ALS but slower with it deteriorated but I'm 30 so it's starting to get pretty shitty. What I'm saying though is I feel like I relate with everything you've said. I love the person I am even though that person is the outcome of a daily struggle.
@August_Fields
@August_Fields 5 жыл бұрын
@@TrailerTrashThorne I'm so sorry you have this ailment. I knew a man who had ALS. He was a coworker's husband. Once, I watched him walk through a fire pit! Right over the coals! All I can say is each one of us has our own individual struggles to overcome. Sometimes they are just too much. I understand when this happens. I guess it's just a part of everyone's life, Federix Ataxia or not. Don't know why. But I can say this, your attitude will make you the kind of person that people want to be around, if that's what you like, or you can withdraw. There's nothing wrong with that either. I've done it many times. I've looked at the end of my life a few times and the one thing I took away from it was maybe it's better to engage other people, even if they're jerks, to get the positive feedback from the one's who aren't, when you find them. You wouldn't believe the things I've seen people do when no one's watching. I used to work in the medical care industry and there were plenty of times I saw the very worst in people, and other times I saw the best in people. And you would never be able to predict which ones would be which. I hope tomorrow is a good day for you. As you say, every day, well it's every day's struggle. So good luck tomorrow my friend.

Right because all they need is a free house?? That's a mainstream media fallacy! This is the result of many years of bad choices, drug and alcohol addiction and probably mental health issues but City Liberals don't want to actually fix the issue, they turned it into a massive tax payer money grab business.. LA residents gave the city $1.2 BILLION dollars in HHH funding in 2018, and Homeless exploded..all they did was build around some Luxury condos at a cost of 600k per unit!? Yes $600,000!! It's their "progressive policies" that just enable people to get worse..Look at any major democratic city and you see the exact same results...it's insane 🤦🏽‍♂️ Cite Source: www.latimes.com/california/story/2019-10-07/homeless-housing-bond-measure-audit-shelters-galperin

Grew up in Southern California in the late ‘90’s. Soon after graduating high school, even back then, I quickly realized that for a single young adult to try to make it there was next to impossible. I moved to Idaho where I went to college, and met my wife, and never went back to CA. My family all still lives in CA. I go back and visit once or twice a year. The second I drive back across the border into Idaho, I literally get out of the car, kiss the ground, and say a prayer of thanks for where I live. My home State gets worse and worse, every time I go back. It makes me so sad and depressed. I can’t stand to visit for more than about a week before I am homesick and want to go back to Idaho.

He would be in the rears and put in jail for it if he could not pay. Now I asked if we all ready have an agreement between us,an he is always on time so why put him on there? I was told "then you just don't want the $$ then.besides how you gonna pay us back for getting this help if you don't give the father up??"...so I get no cash asst. It's really hard to live without hope.thank god I am sober an have good ppl .no family but good ppl. I was 20 at the time, and moved down here to escape an abusive household when I was 19. Nobody knew I was homeless. I got into a rental when I was done, and one year later I didn't have enough money for food. So I went days at a time without eating. I was 21. We get the same thing in Seattle and the weather here is nothing special. And there's druggies in every city. Homelessness is mostly about housing costs and housing costs are mostly about land-use policy. In cheaper cities all the druggies can gang up in some abandoned crackhouse. But here the crackhouse gets bulldozed and replaced with million dollar condos because developers have to do in-fill development when they aren't allowed to build outside the growth boundary.

@@tonyolen1381 So in 2016 I made $10.15 an hour (2.90 above the current federal minimum wage). Two 39 weeks would land me almost exactly $700 after taxes (no health insurance). For a crappy 2 bedroom apartment about 7 miles from the large city I currently live next to (I live here for school so I can't just "move away") my rent + utilities is $900, car insurance $150. So just living and being able to drive left me with $350 a month for everything else (keep in mind I had no health insurance). Do you see a problem with this? A 2013 statistic had that the bottom 80% of Americans owned 7% of the nation's wealth. The largest employer in my state is literally Walmart. These "good jobs" you speak of are a pipe dream. You're looking down on people for not making money, you need to realize it's the people writing the paychecks that are generating the issue.

Yep, FAR more homeless in the US than in Thailand and Cambodia. Several reasons - 1. confuscianism - people are MUCH more likely to get a roof over their heads or food with the assistance of their direct or extended family, or community. 2. the death penalty for hard drug trafficking. There is still a bit around, but nothing even close to what you see in the US. Much less in the way of hard drugs, much less homelessness.

Yep. Instead of a tent city, it becomes a tiny home city and good luck getting that to ever move. The problem is the climate and the liberal laws. People come here because if you're going to be homeless, it might as well be in a liberal place where you get more handouts and the climate is nice. Now you can't even get them to move in California unless there are enough shelter beds in the city and with this size homeless population that's almost not feasible. It's pretty bad in downtown LA but it's spreading to beach cities too, like Venice.

Now they’ve lost literally billions rather than just paying $10 mil. They’ve gotten tons of police/military/civilians/business people/etc literally killed for no necessary reason. A while back, I started giving money to this same homeless guy 2-3 times every week on the way to the office, since I don’t go in everyday. Not much a couple bucks, a 5 dollar bill. Whatever I could find on me. I took a rather long vacation and came back. I met the same homeless guy only to find him yelling and screaming at me for not having been around. He just lost a source of one of his meals.

This is what happens when you have idiotic politicians who regulate everything to hell so cost of housing goes up, then cost of everything goes up, and you have expensive social programs that raise taxes, then people leave, so taxes go up more and you create even more stupid policies like letting people live on the streets, and you get this.

Lack of housing and homelessness it's not the same issue. Lack of housing Is simple to fix. Allow for more housing to be built. All sorts of housing tall buildings with affordable units everywhere. That's what several countries in asia have done and it works.

@@zoeyredmond5501 How exactly do programs that redistribute wealth to the bottom income tier of society cause homelessness, your theory makes no sense. Every time I talk to one of you libertarian/conservative types you give a bullshit vague reference to 'rEgULatIon' as the problem but neglect to mention how corporations have been siphoning off wealth from the majority of the population while making larger profit margins as the years progress. A small handful of people in the U.S. have more wealth than the bottom 175 million, this is a redistribution problem. Not a fucking regulation problem.

Correct me if I am wrong.. I feel one of the reason there are homeless people in USA is because people leave their home after 18yr old. They are on their own. And when they are not able to earn money for some reason. They don't go back home. People shame you if you are grown up and live with your parents who already have home. In Asia India Pakistan atleast kids stay with parents always. Some do leave if it needs for job purpose but there is no system of leaving parents. So if for some reason one is not able to earn for a while they stay with parents.

It's not like this by accident. The citizens of Cali elect politicians of a particular persuasion decade after decade. They enact policies which enable their state and its municipalities to create an environment that generates extreme wealth and extreme poverty. The gap from the wealthy and the poor is growing year by year. They import and encourage illegal immigration as if it's a virtue. Those prospering from the wealth exploit the poorest among them and illegal labor. We're talking about modern day serfdom. This same formula is at work in Seattle. It has turned my hometown of Portland into a shithole. These cities have done it to themselves. My town use to be a blend of progressiveness and rational governance. Now it has swayed so far left, it is eating itself up from the inside out. The policies that were put into place years ago are taking shape, and the result is a breakdown on all fronts.
