During Ice 9 at his concert on April 13 in Enschede, Joe Satriani broke his cable (2:45). What happened was astonishing!

For those who commented on the keyboard player - he is Rai Thistlethwayte from Australia - his band here is Thirsty Merc, he plays with Oz Noy in Ozone Squeeze and has clips under the name Sun Rai - all well worth a listen. And his comment about playing in Joe's band is how great it is to work with nice people - says a lot .

WOW!! That was as smooth as it gets for the whole band. Love it!! Also, notice just after 6:46, when the band was at a spot where they could elegantly switch from "emergency jam" mode back into Ice-9, they hardly made any noticeable cue. Just Kenny (drums) started with the accented crashes, and there they were. Not sure if anyone was talking to them all via their in-ear monitors to make that happen so smoothly or what, but... that's as professional as it gets!
@valentinloew

In my humble humble opinion i think i saw joe jut giving a look to kenny that meant " let's go back to the song" and it was enough, these guys know each other really well. I could be wrong though i dont think joe plays with an ear monitor ;)

@LorenScott69 Жыл бұрын
@@valentinloew I watched again closely and don’t see Joe giving Kenny (or anyone) any visual cues. Perhaps it’s in the riff that Joe does near the end of that previous measure that the band just gets as a signal. ???

@@LorenScott69 I did too and i think i saw hi: turn but once again. but yes you're correct, the last couple of bars of the jam lead to a resolution, for kenny and the other guys, it's enough of a cue in itself

If you watch other versions of Ice9 from this same tour you’ll notice that when this extended breakdown solo section goes from trading 2 bars of gtr / 2 bars of keys to all-Joe with no more trading (here @6:36) that’s the signal that we’re in the final 8 bars and the hits are coming. Great musicians. Super tight and an amazing performance.

@@DomingoVoiceOver Ahhhh!!! Thanks for that. I wasn’t aware that the planned live version did include the extended solo section. No one seems to have noticed. Look at 1:18, Joe is in front of the drummer, the cable is long enough, then he goes to his right and at 1:25 someone pulls the cable (so that Joe doesn't get tangled around his legs), at 2:45 Joe tries go back to the middle of the stage but he can't because the cable is suddenly too short. The technician is responsible for what happened. It's strange that Joe doesn't use a wireless system, if you walk around it's easier. 🎸
